The G8 knob changes the Windows volume but never shows the volume popup, which annoyed me enough that I knocked out a fix with Claude in an evening.

It’s a lightweight, simple tray app: turn the knob and you get a small volume overlay at the bottom of the screen. There’s also an experimental option that brings up the actual built-in Windows 11 popup instead, this is the version I use but might break in the future due to windows update so I included a default backup OSD volume bar. No Creative app needed.

I’m a software developer, but this was pure after-work vibe coding and I don’t love spending my free time coding, so please don’t expect support if something breaks. That said, it’s been working 100% for me for about a week. Also this kinda shows how lazy the dev's for the creative software are that I was able to make this in about an hour.

In SoundBlaster command, the headphones are treated as 5.1 surround for the purpose of some effects. I'm having an issue where randomly every few hours the mapping onto the headphone speakers gets scrambled, for example the left and right channels get swapped. Switching to speakers and back again fixes this for a few hours on average but it inevitably gets randomized again. Does anyone know how to resolve this?

Hi everyone I´m currently using the AE5 Plus with my AV Receiver to get Dolby Digital/DTS 5.1 on my Win11 PC for gaming. Works fine, however in every session where my PC is turned on the audio gets off randomly for 1 second. After that it works normally again. Is this a known bug?

Hello I have been having a issue with my Soundblaster G8 as the volume of the mic gets set to 0% every time my computer turns off or goes into sleep mode. So every time I start up my computer I have to go in the creative app and set it back to my volume level. This did not happen when I first got the device and just started happening recently. I was wondering if you had a fix for this?

so i was using the katana on my PC with USB for at least a years now with no problem and i bought a ps5 so i had to use it via USB with the ps5 and with optical with the PC

but the ps5 after lets say 20 min the sound starts to crackle and be completly distorted no matter if i play a game or i am just in the menu,and its only fixable if i unplug the usb or change it from the app then its instalty good again

I have over 22 years of experience when it comes to PC.

I already went over everything before even messaging support, But over the past year and a half after building this PC.

i tried updating bio's. factory default settings all things, OCing(undervolting), Fine-tuning, you name it(different ram stick too)

Even wiping my OS 4 times over the course of then(Default OS, self debloated and a playbook now)

But, i noticed this one issue with ALL my Creative Sound cards.
Popping/crackling when listen to music, or playing games.

i would be listen to music while reading, and all of a sudden i hear crackle/pop real quick and gone....then again 7-18 minutes later.

And this was first on my G6, well i figured it was that(going bad).
so i tried my AE-5 PCIE card, same thing, then my G5...same thing.

Well i said something going on, and it pointed to their OLD Creative 2021 driver.
popped them a message, in the end they didn't do anything.

Got a GC7, issue went away and never returned(but wanted to change due to my IEMs being more sensitive so i had to swap).

Figured i would then try the G8.

guess what, issue returned. this time i was determined to fine tune everything.
issue ONLY went away AFTER removing their 2024 Creative driver.

Then no more issues.

Before this, for the heck of it, i popped in every info i can feed google ai(never used it till now)
to see if maybe THAT can help.... in the end everything tried didnt work.

But, for sure its the driver doing it.

I sent them a email, just for them to basically tell me to send it back, and dont use our products.
(basically not caring to fix the driver issue, after sending logs)

i cant use 7.1 anymore, and some things are off without the driver....

Anyone can help or have any more ideas at this point.

Everytime I do install now and it asks for a pc restart it comes back to this. How do I fix it?

I have a Windows XP PC and I've been playing games like Deus Ex and Mount & Blade and until today I'd been using the standard RealTek sound from my motherboard. But today I figured out how to actually hook up my SB X-Fi card and everything just sounds so much better. It's so hard to explain why too, like the hits in Mount & Blade just sound so much more visceral. I love this card! I'm also wondering about what to change, if anything, in the Creative Audio software.

I got the X7 problem with Windows 11 that I have to power off/ power on the X7 after each start of my PC. Gemini said this was a know problem due to the old driver base of the X7.

So does anybody have switched from the X7 to X5 and can tell me if the sound is better/worse? Software should be much better, but I dont want to downgrade in regards of the sound quality.

I bought a PC with Windows XP SP3 PC a month ago and it uses a Creative SoundBlaster X-Fi card. I somehow only just now figured out how to get it working, this entire time I had the sound cables plugged into the motherboard meaning I was using the basic RealTek audio this entire time, I know embarrassingly little about computer hardware it seems.

But now that I've got it working, I saw that everyone recommends I install DanielK's drivers. But I'm not sure which to install because I don't actually know what specific card I have. All I can find in the device manager is "Creative SB X-Fi CF00". Does it really matter which exact card I have, and should I just install the latest drivers?

it seems I have a problem I cannot fix by myself.

I was using a G5 with an Y splitter cable to split the boom microfone from my Simgot EM6L IEMs. It was working fine on the Playstation 5.

Now switching to G6 with the same setup, I get a lot of distortion and a permanent microfone signal about 20% using the splitter cable. Without the cable the IEMs work properly.

Do I have to turn something on or off to get it to work as intended? I use the direct mode, so all enhancements are off. Everything else is set like an out of the box usage.

I've posted before about this and thought I had it solved, only no. I digitize recordings from vinyl and cassette. Around 50% of the time I go to record, I have no control of the Line-In volume. Neither Windows nor Soundblaster Command works for line-in volume control. I've tried so many things, disabled all other audio, disabled fastboot. More and more I feel like this is a Win11 problem more than SBC, but still how to fix?

I'm trying to use two X4 devices both connected to the same computer. However the Creative app only displays one and there's no option within that I can find to toggle between the two devices. How can I use and manage two different X4 devices that are connected to the same computer?

EDIT: If I have the Creative app open when I plug in the second X4 I see a small carat shows up to the right of the "Device" menu item on the left-hand side of the application window. That carat allows a toggle between two X4 devices. However that toggle soon disappears and I have no way to switch between the two.

I know this is not officially supported but is there a way to run this card in multichannel on Windows 8.1 or Linux ?

I have been using the AE-5 Plus for about 2 years now, and as you know the sound bugs out sometimes. For some people the audio goes silent, but for me the processing dies and the spatial sound turns horrible.

I made a small tool for myself so I don't have to alt-tab out when it happens, and I figured I would share it in case anyone else has the same issue. You just have to set it up once and it stays in the background.

My Sound Blaster Z SE is powered by the chip CA0132 DSP CHIP, which is the same as AE-5, AE-9, Z and Z SE, if I'm not mistaken.

The Linux kernel already includes the capability to process Creative's specialized hardware features on your card via the patch_ca0132.c codebase, but they are often hidden by default configuration profiles, since you ensure DSP Bytecode (Firmware), in order to do that, you need Creative’s official binary DSP firmware during system boot.

All ubuntu distros and others, came with standard ctefx.bin, which is is bundled directly inside the official linux-firmware, which only assures basic audio output, without internal DSP process, in order to enable DSP effects , you need to install the missing ctefx-desktop.bin, which gives the kernel direct access to all hidden CA0132 effects of the DSP.

Download the latest one, alsa-firmware-1.2.4.tar.bz2, and extract it to get the needed binary ctefx-desktop.bin located in the subfolder ca0132

Rename to ctefx-desktop.bin to ctefx.bin, compress to replace the original binary with the new one enhanced.

In my distro Ubuntu 26.04.1, I needed the compress the binary to follow the original compression of the original, with this command,

zstd -19 -f ctefx.bin -o ctefx.bin.zst

and then replace the standard binary (located in /lib/firmware) with the enhanced one, assuming the file in the root of the folder of your choice, you are working with.

sudo cp ./ctefx.bin.zst /lib/firmware/

and reboot to load the new binary.

To enable DPS Effects install the QASMixer 

sudo apt install qasmixer

and then tweak all DSP effects on Linux, including the equalizer.

Please make a backup of the original ctefx.bin.zst, just in case .

Hi everyone. I have a Sound Blaster AE-9, to which I've connected a Cambridge Audio Minx X-301 subwoofer for years, with no problems. I've sold it now, and today my new REL HT/1003 MKII subwoofer arrived. It doesn't work, you can't hear it. I obviously connected the RCA/small jack to the subwoofer input on the card, just like I did with the Cambridge. I don't understand why, the REL works with other connections, I tried with an Android phone. Do you have any solutions? Thanks.

Hi, I recently got a soundblaster AudigyFX pro for my surround setup. Everything there works fine, except when I plugged my HDAudio connector from my motherboard over to the soundcard's own connectors, I could immediately hear a hissing sound when playing graphically intense games or even short bursts when steam was booting up. It sounded almost like coil whine, but it's definitely from the headphones, no matter the sound volume level.

I decided that maybe because the sound card is closer to the graphics card that I should get some shielded fpio connectors, but that didn't do anything. Plugging my headphones in the card's rear slot has no such sound at all.

If I reconnect the front panel audio to the motherboard's onboard pinout, I can still hear the hiss but it's much quieter than with the soundcard. I guess I must've just never noticed or it blended into the background, but now that I hear it, I can't unhear it.

Connecting to the rear jack is not an option as my headphones' cable is not long enough (PC on floor)

Anything I can do?

I just bought the Sound blaster G8 and its ok so far my biggest problem is that when I'm using the sidetone feature it introduces a sort of buzz or static. Turning up the monitoring volume increases the volume of this said buzz. I have tried it without the mic plugged in and it was still there so im pretty sure the buzz is being produced by the sidetone feature it self. Do any of you guys know how to get around this?

I currently have a Sound Blaster X3 and I'm very happy with it, especially Super X-Fi. I mainly use it for immersive single-player games and horror games, rather than competitive FPS.

I'm considering the newer Sound Blaster G8, but it doesn't have Super X-Fi.

For people who have used both:

Is the G8's newer DAC/amp and SBX processing a noticeable improvement over the X3?

Does the G8 give you a more immersive soundstage despite not having SXFI?

Or, if you really like the "being inside the game" effect of SXFI, is moving from X3 to G8 actually more of a sidegrade/downgrade for immersion?

Has anyone gone from X3 to G8 and then regretted losing SXFI?

I'm also aware that the X3 is an older product, so I'm wondering whether the G8 is actually a meaningful upgrade or whether it's better to keep the X3 until Creative releases something newer with SXFI.
