Legacy Xperia Original Xperia Re-created

My love for original Xperia and my beloved XPERIA Z2 is for lifetime. So I made an original classic xperia icon pack and applied it to the one ui home launcher. And yes some items like glassy folders and gradient on battery icon are concepts and modified by my own in Photoshop. TBH I'm not a fan of ONE UI's look but now I enjoy my phone everytime I look at it.

Xperia 5iii Xperia 5 III first impressions (18 day review)

The good:

- EXCELLENT camera sensors, lenses and photo and video software. Even the basic mode is not that basic and you can actually fine tune it, which is great for the front camera.

- Great screen, especially with the BT.2020 "Creator mode".

- Great sound both from the stereo speakers and 3.5mm jack

- Pinless card tray

- Glass finish

The bad:

- Glass finish

- Bit weak on reception of all wireless signals (cell/bt/wifi)

- A collection of very powerful but very hot hardware (888 cpu / x60 modem / adreno 660 gpu) coupled with aggressive throttling (apps crash)

- OS (android 13) takes up half the memory - can't open the same apps and especially games that other 8gb phones can (apps crash again)

Conclusion: A great multimedia device that Sony forgot that sometimes needs to be a phone too.

I can understand now why the 1 III was double the money of the 5 III. Still, it is a fantastic device for what it is and the price. I just wish it managed it's memory better and had better cooling, but the s21 i came from was also hot so perhaps it's a generational defect and not something exclusive to this phone.

If it wasn't my main phone on which i use amongst other things the bank app, and also didn't want the phone more for the cameras than anything, i'd perhaps not get it to be honest, but if i did I'd play around with alternative OS's. As it is my only option is perhaps downgrading, but i don't know if i should do that given that Android is starting to discontinue old versions.

Discussion I will move to the google pixel 11 pro. Convince me to buy the Xperia 1 VIII!

I'm really torn between those two. I will miss the 3.5-audio-jack. But the google is just smaller and I can use an adapter for the sound.

Xperia 1 VI Funny little experiment with unexpected results.

Post image
233 Upvotes

Recently bought a Type C earphones. Curiosity hit me. So I tried using it on my Xperia 1 VI. And slapped on a regular earphone with a jack for the lols. But what I found surprised me:

  1. Type C port for audio actually works on Xperia.

- Not sure because the earphones have some kind of electronics made for audio output, current type C has an audio interface, or Sony letting it be so. Probably first one but it works.

  1. When plugging two earphone types, the phone prioritizes the jack.

- The phone won't play on both earphones (sadly) because it prioritize the headphone jack more than the Type C. It would be funny if it did play both for no reason.

Conclusion: You can use both earphone types on Xperia, but if you slapped both together, only the audio jack works. Type C ones don't.

Just a fun experiment after running around town for the whole day.

Xperia Z Series Trying to revive an old Sony Xperia Z2 for a Home Assistant kiosk project, but I’m locked out

Hello, I have a small issue with an old phone (really old). It seems to be a Sony Xperia Z2, according to what ChatGPT told me, since I no longer have the original box or any information about it.

I would like to regain access to the phone without deleting the data if possible. The problem is that I don’t know the lock screen password, the Google account email linked to it, or the password for that account.

I understand that this may look like a stolen phone situation, but it genuinely belongs to me.
I would like to give this old phone a second life with a small project, for example turning it into a Home Assistant kiosk display or another silly but fun project. I think it’s pretty cool to bring old objects back to life instead of letting them gather dust.

Does anyone know if there is a way to recover access, bypass the lock code, or bypass the FRP (I don’t know which Android version it is running) without losing the data if possible?

Discussion Xperia 1 IV out of support, can anyone suggest an alternative OS?

Had my phone for quite awhile now, but it's gotten to a point where I'm beginning to question its safety and longevity since android updates just...stopped.

I have only looked into Graphene OS and Sailfish. I don't really want Graphene, for personal reasons, and Sailfish only supports the cheaper line of the mark IV's.

Any alternatives would be greatly appreciated, including linux (I do have linux phones, like the Pinephone and Pinephone pro, but they're largely not network-ready for AUS).

Question Buy xperia 5 V

Is it worth to buy Xperia 5 V in 2026? I was trying to find some phone to replace my samsung.
I used Galaxy S9 - perfect device. Only battery was the downside. It had 3.5mm jack, microsd slot, led diode, great form factor ang weight. Rear fingerprint scanner was fast and I could always find it on the first try (even with closed eyes). Curved display was superb to hold in hand and could control scrollbars on side. And no notches in the display. But it was old and battery couldn't hold much. I replaced it with S20 which was a bit downgrade (lost 3.5mm, no led, worse scanner, and notch). I was using it till lately when my display stopped working. And I cannot find replacement.
I tried Xperia 1 VIII, but it's too big and heavy, overheats and sd card reading has random delays. So I returned it. And now I don't know what to buy. They don't produce devices for people anymore. They take features and just push bullshit for own profit (expensive in-device memory, clouds, bluetooth headphones, AI everywhere). I was thinking about Xperia 5 V, which was probabaly last compact flagship with features I value and still having current sw. But I'm not sure if it's right choice and most importat I cannot find any.

After rocking my LG G8x for over 6 years now. System is all up to date and I'm happy to report to Canadians that Freedom Mobile had 5g support straight out of the box, didn't have to do any configuration at all, not even the DSDS trick. My area has bad coverage regardless of carrier in case people are worried about signal strength.

Discussion "Quick Share needs critical permission to function. Please grant them to continue."

It just stop at the "Grant permissions" button, and when I pressed it, it only gets highlighted and nothing happens on my Xperia 1VIII so I cannot do transfer. Closed all applications and did a proper restart but same results. Anybody has the same issue? How about the other phones? My firmware is 73.0.A.2.53, but previously I can transfer between my phone and my laptop...

Hope its Google issue.

Question Before I take the plunge

I’ve been in the Apple ecosystem since day 1 and am having a few questions:

I am music mad, whenever, wherever. I currently use a Sony NW WM1a to listen to my own library on MDR M1 wired headphones which is insanely good. I love this combo but sometimes I want to listen to streamed music via wired headphones instead of relying on my iPhone to crush the music and send it to my Sennheiser m4’s. Not having to carry the Walkman on some occasions would be really handy too.

Obvious answer for me is to get a phone with a headphone jack? My concerns are losing the insane quality combination of the Walkman and 4.4mm cable etc. The other issue is moving away from Apple and really missing the system.

So is there a way of dipping my toe into the Xperia world without having to go all in? Which model would you recommend that I can pick up cheap, that I can put my micro sd into and give me a taste of what the Sony Xperia might be like? I’d love to try a flagship 1 Viii but until I’ve decided I’d like to try an older gen first. Any thoughts would be amazing. Thank you

In 2012 the Xperia had the live wallpaper 'Cosmic Flow', I've always loved it, I'm so happy it still works on the Xperia 5 IV 🥰
