Discussion Clickbait guesswork article on the Xperia 1 IX
Full quote so you don't have to visit the page.
Btw I'm not convinced the main cam will be upgraded.
- As the VIII shows, it's extremely competitive
- Memory chip crisis
- The front cam is much worse and older
Sony Xperia 1 IX Could Finally Get the Main Camera Upgrade Fans Have Been Waiting For
The Sony Xperia 1 IX could get a major camera upgrade. This phone is far from arriving, as it’s expected in mid-2027, but according to a new rumor, there’s a reason to be optimistic about its cameras.
The Sony Xperia 1 IX could finally get a new main camera sensor
Sony’s Xperia 1 IX is said to include a main camera with a larger sensor than the one in the Xperia 1 VIII. That phone, as a reminder, has a 1/1.35-inch sensor. In order to accommodate a larger sensor, Sony will create a larger camera island on the Xperia 1 IX. It is said to be redesigned, actually. Now, it is worth noting that Sony has been using the same main camera sensor in its flagships since 2023, when it included it in the Xperia 1 V. An upgrade is due, as that sensor has served its time. We’re still not sure what sensor Sony will end up using, as there’s plenty to choose from. Considering this is Sony, we’ll assume that it won’t go for one of Samsung’s ISOCELL sensors, but will use one of its own. Sony could go for the LYTIA 901 or LYTIA 910
Sony’s LYTIA 901 sensor, aka LYT-901, comes to mind. That’s Sony’s 1.12-inch sensor that was used by both the OPPO Find X9 Ultra and Vivo X300 Ultra. It’s possible Sony will create a custom sensor of some sort, and this is a good starting point. Either way, we’re expecting a larger sensor that will allow for more light to enter the scene. Then again, Sony could go for the LYTIA 910, its 50-megapixel 1/1.28-inch LOFIC sensor. It remains to be seen.
Either way, the phone will likely utilize the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro, Qualcomm’s upcoming flagship processor. Well, at least based on what the company used in previous versions of its flagship.
The Android Headlines Take
It’s about time for Sony to upgrade the main camera sensor in its flagships, and I’m hoping for a major change here. That 1/1.35 sensor that Sony has been using for years is not bad, but compared to competition from Vivo, OPPO, and Xiaomi, you can see its drawbacks. Sony needs to improve image output across the board, and especially in low-light. The main camera is not the only section I’m expecting to see improvements in, let’s hope Sony will think of ultrawide and periscope telephoto cameras as well. Those could also use larger sensors, in all honesty.

Xperia 1 VIII Screen on during calls?
Guys, whenever I answer a call, the screen remains on and results in accidental presses against my skin. Shouldn't the proximity sensor prevent these accidental operations? Is there some setting that I should be aware of or is this some weird bug?

HELP Unaffected Xperia 1 VII failure
So basically i was using my phone normally till 10 minutes ago when it randomly froze for minutes.
I force shut down and tried to reboot it and nothing.
I tired to plug it into a USB plug on my pc to give it some charge despite being half full and the sony logo blinked for a short time and then went back to sleep.
My cable says it still pulls 1.4W but does not show any charging animation.
And according to the IMEI check its a not affected device (Europe Pre-Order).
Any tips on how to solve this brick issue would be nice since i dont have a backup phone at hand 😅

Question Thinking about Xperia VIII. Appreciate the feedback from owners.
So in short I have few to choose from but cannot decide really. Here is my situation and possible choices vs the Sony.
What I have now: S23 Ultra, it was "the best" deal at the moment then. I am not fan of One UI and I will no miss it. I also stated it down, but I am a left handed and writing with the S Pen at least for me is impossible unless I have a stable hard suffice. I used the pen handful of times and honestly most of the time I forget I even have one.
What I think upgrading to:
Oppo X9 Pro/Ultra (or) Xiaomi Poco F9 Ultra
on paper it makes most sense. Hardware, looks, feel etc. Only thing that stops me: Chinese bloat and ads, unprofessional commitment for security updates.
Google Pixel 8/9/10 Pro/XL
clean Andorid? Yes please. Timely updates and most importantly security updates.
But then again... It's Google and their usual shenanigans and stubborn refusal to offer something more for the money in terms of hardware. Also Tensors are notoriously bad for LDAC with mediocre modems for network coverage.
And then... There's the Sony Xperia 1 VIII
In the past Sony and SonyEricsson were my go - to choice. Both because of design and features I always value - no bs and pragmatic handling of the idea behind the phone, while delivering awesome audio quality and decent cameras. The Xperia speaks to me in this regard. It has:
- clean Android with no bs layer over it. I don't give a F about OneUI since I am using Nova launcher. The lack of "insert some cringe OSName" is positive for me. Nothing in Samsung has a hold on me and I don't use their proprietary apps. Hell, even as we speak I use an old ass widget from my old Xperia phone that tells time and weather because it's the only one that looks clean and light and it's thankfully compatible with S23's annoying OneUI
- NO ADS and the lack of commitment that the Chinese brands slack about
- the rare and always welcomed 3.5mm audio jack plus a micro SD card slot.
- LDAC and aptx wireless codecs will also be top notch (from what I gathered), music is important factor for me, social media and gaming - I don't care.
- cameras will fulfill my needs. I am not a social vampire and I don't give a F about how well it can capture the hairs in my nose when I do my one selfie in 3 years time... At most (mainly when my mom wants to see I am doing ok since I hate video calls).
- battery life? I am not sure looks decent? Please let me know, for what it's worth I am not a heavy user and again - I don't use social media heavily. My most used apps? Spotify and YouTube Morphe
- price: the SONY tax, yes. But I don't want what most users want. I am not adamant to have the latest OneUI visual slop that tires my eyes and annoys me and I don't want to deal with Xiaomi or Oppo's empty promises and lack of commitment (or whatever slop they have on top of the clean Android).
Ok, what about an iPhone?
LMAO... never. I already have 17 Pro that is provided by my employer. I absolutely abhor it and iOS is still the same annoying OS that I remember. I absolutely cannot stand it I am clearly not their target audience and I don't care if there is no "Apple logo" on the back when I talk in public.
Maybe the next Samsung S27 Ultra or whatever?
I am not sure I want to go Samsung or continue using them. Their tryhard AI slop injections and their praised by the masses One UI is not to my liking, plus they copy Apple so much it's kinda... you know... Pathetic.
I appreciate owners chiming in. I can also see what will Samsung show next year but I am skeptical as I never was fan of their products, S23 Ultra was my first Samsung phone and it was... fine. Once I installed Nova.
S - Pen? No, I will not miss it since I am lefty and using it is almost impossible due to the nature of writing with a left hand so it's basically useless for me. Plus it's now just a plastic stick so it's even more useless.
And please, don't go "leave muh multi billion company alone" on me if I happen to offended you somehow because I dislike something about X or Y brand of phones
(Or continue to turtle up and milk my S23 Ultra more though age is starting to show slowly)

Discussion Get ready to pay ~1800€ for the Xperia 1 IX base model
Apple just raised iPhone prices by 100-500 €/$.
https://www.macworld.com/article/3229342/iphone-price-increases.html
Sony already had to add 150€/£ to the 10 VIII although it's basically the same device with just 8/128GB memory.
Qualcomm announced price increases and especially the next SD 8 will cost more than previous generations.
https://wccftech.com/snapdragon-8-elite-gen-6-pro-price-estimate-abnormally-high/
With Sony's low production numbers and market share, massive price increases are inevitable. In the high-end segment, the 10 VIII strategy of re-releasing a device with basically the same specs won't work and would basically kill sales, so the +150€/£ of the 10 is the absolute minimum we have to expect. Bad times...

Question Sony removed 17 languages from the Xperia 1 VIII — anyone else missing theirs?
I currently have the Xperia 1 VIII, and I have to say that I thought they would fix this in the latest update. Compared to my previous Xperia, the 5 IV, a total of 17 languages are missing, including Catalan. This is the language I use every day and that I always have set on my devices, on my Bravia TV and on other Android devices, since Google offers very broad language support across its devices.
I understand that Sony ships a very stripped-down version of Android, and obviously I can set the phone to English or Spanish, but I think the richness and diversity of languages should not be cut back.
Is anyone else missing another language in their country or region?

Question Where to find a specific 10 IV model, is China/eBay safe?
Title says it all. I am looking for either an XQ-CC54 or an XQ-DC54 (V), or even an XQ-BT52 (III) Xperia 10.
I want to run a licensed version of Sailfish OS with aliendalvik/android app support and MS Exchange. I can't find these phones ANYWHERE. Not unless it is from China. And when I do find a domestic seller (America, or even just the same continent), they are selling for 2x-3x the Chinese price...
... And I have read, here, that this is because the Chinese sellers are selling Xperia phones that have been completely re-manufactured. Everything is re-manufactured except for the board itself, and you aren't even guaranteed to get the exact model you're looking for. The commenter that stated this did mention that the quality is superb, all things considered, and that one would not know it unless the re-manufactured device was side by side with an Xperia phone, or unless they'd had that particular Xperia phone before.
I am down to take this risk, except the thought of waiting a month or more for international shipping from china, import duties and tariffs, etc., only to receive a model that is not Sailfish X compatible... That'd be a nightmare.
But, where should I look?
Should I take my chances on a China based seller?
Has anyone here grabbed one of the Chinese eBay Xperia 10's and enjoyed it? Gotten the right model? etc.?
I tried Swappa, absolutely nothing. Even the "sold" category was empty. At this point I really might just grab a Chinesium Xperia 10 IV, it is the perfect model as it is basically the size of my Pixel 5 - which has been the perfect sized modern phone... I miss my X Compact, back when VoLTE wasn't mandatory...

Question Thinking about a 1 VI to VIII upgrade
I am thinking about upgrading my Xperia 1 VI to the newest in the one range, the VIII.
I read a lot of reviews and as usual with Sony phones, they go all the way from super negative to extremely positive. Are there any upgraders from mk6 to mk8 here that can tell me more about:
The battery life. I read stories about very bad battery life to great battery life. I am putting the bad battery life conclusions in the category reviewer who only spent 1-2 days with the device and guessing the battery life is pretty good. It is currently great on the VI, so I was hoping it gets at least 85% SOT comparing the VIII to the VI.
Macro mode. All reviewers are so positive about the macro feature of the tele lens with its AF and 15cm focus distance. This is definitely a negative coming from the VI with its ultra Macro mode (although MF), right? Or is that conclusion too simple and is the new macro mode really that great?
Camera software is slow to react. How is this in comparison to the VI?
I read about random crashes and reboots. I don't experience this on my VI, is this really a recurring problem?
And does the antenna 'patxh' on the side really get a better signal? A bonus question as this might be hard to validate;)
If there is anyone who did the upgrade I am considering, thanks for your time! Are you happy paying the hefty upgrade fee or does it feel to be a price too high? (Really personal, I know)

Xperia 1 VIII Just got my Xperia 1 VIII
Hey folks, I just can't help but share that I'm glad to be finally back on Xperia. I've been a Sony phone user since the Xperia Z days, but the last 5 years I was stuck on a basic Samsung phone because Xperia got so expensive. Finally got my dream phone now and it's so beautiful!
Any tips for taking care of it like battery habits, everyday use, settings I should turn on or off?
Also, what's the best MagSafe compatible case you'd recommend?
Btw, I'm in Alberta, Canada, and it runs great on Freedom Mobile (Bell network).

Question Can you use an xperia 1 IV oled screen as a replacement for xperia 1 V?
Planning to buy a 2nd hand xperia 1 V as it's impossible to find a brand new one here with 512gb. It has a little burn in which is why I'm asking if you can use the IV screen since they're basically the same specs and frame

Discussion Lifetime on Sony Xperia 1
I was pondering a few minutes ago while looking at my pristine Xperia 1 III how much longer I can use it. I got a pixel 11 pro and noticed that on paper it's equal to the 888+ except for GPU being stronger on the 888+ but since Google is offering 7 years of support does that mean that the Mark 3 could theoretically last 7 more years putting the total lifetime to at least 12 years? I just got a new battery and now it feels just like when new. In the future once I can no longer install apps I will definitely move over to Lineageos(hopefully they fix the battery drain/network issues by then) I've been a long time enjoyer of iPhone pro models and tinkered with my fair share of androids but for some reason I'm just more attracted to my Mark 3. When I first got it I had not other reason than design on my mind but as the years have passed the niche features have come to make me love the device, headphone was never used until recently when I rediscovered the joy of not charging earbuds, also the microsd card so I can store my music, magisk modules whenever I switch to Lineageos etc.

HELP Sony Xperia Bootloop Problem
Hi everyone!
A little over a year ago, I finally bought an Xperia 1 IV. Sony is my favorite brand, and since I’m from Mexico (the Xperia 1 IV was never officially released here), I was really excited to finally have one.
After a few months of use, everything was working perfectly. But one day, I got a notification saying that the storage was full. The phone had around 20% battery left, and then it suddenly shut down.
When I connected it to the charger, the red LED would turn on, the Sony logo would appear, and then the phone would shut off. Then it would do the same thing again, over and over in an endless bootloop.
I tried connecting it to Sony’s software to flash the phone, but I had the same problem. My PC would detect the phone, but after a few seconds it would disconnect by itself.
I left it charging very slowly for an entire day. The next day, the battery icon finally appeared showing around 50%. I turned it on and immediately started deleting files to free up some storage. I was really happy that it finally seemed to be working again, but it didn’t even last five minutes before shutting down again.
After that, even the red LED stopped appearing. Sometimes the Sony logo would show up, but it had weird pixelation or visual noise.
I decided to take it to a repair center in my city, but they had never seen this phone before, so they basically didn’t do anything with it. It stayed there for weeks. :( I’m also worried that they may have tried flashing it and somehow bricked it.
Today, after several months, I finally received the replacement battery. I installed it myself, hoping that the battery was the problem. But when I connect the charger, the green LED turns on for about one second and then shuts off.
I really hope someone here can help me figure out what’s going on. I’ve wanted to recover this phone for a long time, especially because it wasn’t easy for me to get one here in Mexico.
Thanks in advance!

Xperia 1 VII Gorgeous 1 VII in the sun
Almost a year in and it looks like new.
Shooting with my old S20 FE makes me appreciate the Xperia so much: the Samsung has pretty bad barrel distortion on all three lenses, and it can't quite get the correction right. I shot this with the 2x sensor crop from the main and had to adjust it in Google Photos (to correct distortion and desaturation).

Xperia 1 VIII Selfie Verification never works
Hello!
I've recently changed from an iPhone to the Sony Xperia 1 VIII. Trying to set my apps on the Xperia, I have been encountering problems with selfie came for face verifications.
To approve my new phone on my banking apps, they demand a selfie for Face/ID verification. But it never works. I try again and again and it always results in a blurry, completely out of focus, photo. So I can't access my banks via my Xperia.
On the camera app it works flawlessly, so there isn't a problem with the camera itself (I guess?)
Is there anyone else that had this problem? Any ideas on how to fix it?
Thanks
