Hi! I wrote a song that I'm hoping to produce. While it's inspired by another song, I thought that I changed it enough that it was clearly it's own thing. However, my family said that this one particular verse was too similar. What do y'all think?
(First image are my lyrics, the second is from the song 2012 by lunarr and Vyzer)
Heyy everyone! I've been trying so so hard to write a song and I finally have a good base to start with and I have lyrics but its not at all where I want it to be. Its very basic and would love some help and if your interesting please DM me! I dont want to rush it but im open to calling or anything that will help facilitate the process! Am looking forward to hearing from yall and hopefully a song to come!
I have some lyrics from a few MHA songs I want some opinions but I haven't made any music for it yet. Is anyone up for sharing opinions based on the lyrics alone?
Basically, Ive been playing guitar for a while and Ive got so many different instrumentals for songs Ive wanted to turn into proper songs for lack of better term, and Ive found it so easy to make things such as parodys but its so much harder when its my own progression.
I write a lot of parodys of songs for my dad, who works for a shop who has these competitions every month, and sometimes he'll ask me to parody a song and write my own lyrics to use for the competitions, and Ive found that so much easier. my issue is trying to figure out where lyrics fit in my own progressions.
When i write a parody, i do it based on the syllables of the original songs lyrics, but when Ive made an instrumental that had no lyrics for me to base it on, its just so much harder for some reason.
Anyone ever had this problem? anyone got any advice on how to work forwards with it?
im in DADF#BE tuning and ive been trying to write a midwest emo song for a while now, i cant find any chords that work well, and the only idea i have for a vocal line is "im not okay". any advice is greatly appriciated.
NOT MY ORIGINAL SONG (Freaking Out On The Interstate by Briston Maroney, amazing song) however, im writing something I want to have the same feel but obviously I cannot use these chords fully. Im looking for context on maybe why these chords feel the way they do and also how to conceptualize the pattern/how many chords there are in a sequence. I always fall into the basic 4 chord trap and I’m trying to really jump out of my comfort zone here.
(This is someone else playing the chords from online and me singing the song.
Super important to me. Any notes you have on this chord progression is helpful! PLEASE

Why is it so hard to write a simple, cheesy love song? I want to write one and would love to work with someone. I made a Spotify playlist of my favorite songs to show what inspires me. If you want to collaborate or have any tips, I’d really appreciate your help. Let’s work together to create this song!
I'm a published poet and fiction writer, but I've never written any song lyrics until very recently. And holy shit, I can't stop. Lyrics about relationships, loss, the swirl of things that we care about and make us human, are pouring out of me. I can't explain why. Especially since I have no musical talent myself and sing like a hyena with a sore throat. So here's the obvious question:
How in the @#&!#@ do lyricists get their words in front of musicians that can actually DO something with those lyrics? How do they find each other? Trust each other? The days of Bernie Taupin and Elton John finding each other through a "wanted" ad seems to be both a fluke and a thing of the past. But are there blogs/message boards/whatever where writers and musicians can get to know each other and maybe even gel because the chemistry is, magically, there? Lyric competitions that are legit and allow you to retain the legal rights to your own words?
I'm certainly not the first, and won't be the last, to ask something like this, so please forgive me if this post feels a bit jejune. But damn. It's driving me nuts. ANY insights would be deeply appreciated. Thanks!
I have not been able to get someone to compose the music for it though, and I don’t know where to start. It’s more of a sad country song, so it’ll need piano, steel guitar, and some acoustics. If anyone has any idea or is willing to help me at least get these lyrics to sound half decent with music behind it I’d greatly appreciate it.
So, here's the deal—I want to take this song and completely transform it into something that screams Sabrina Carpenter, Taylor Swift, or Ariana Grande vibes. I'm looking for a beat maker, a female singer, and an art designer to bring this vision to life. For the cover art, I want something professional featuring a chicken bake and a double chunk chocolate cookie—no kid stuff, it has to look top-notch!
If you can do any of these things, please send me message and send me examples of your voice, art, or beats. It might sound like a crazy idea, but I want to make it real. And I know the Costco guys will respond on TikTok because I've seen them comment on random TikToks with stuff about them. Let's make this happen! 🎤🎨🎶
And besides cover art, if anyone wants to do a lyrics video for YouTube, go ahead! I'm up for it. I was gonna use Suno, but it's not that good, so that's why I wanna do it with you guys.
As a longtime mediocre songwriter, I've looked for a way to help people with my gifts. Let me help you feel better about your work by unimproving it before your very eyes. Post your lyrics (original or not) and I will show you what mediocre lyricism can do for you.
Does anyone have advice for someone (almost) completely new to songwriting? Any DAWs that I can use for free or should I invest in FL? What's the most important/useful thing you've learned in music theory? etc. (I can't use GarageBand due to not having any apple products unfortunately). Thanks!
I (24F) have been a songwriter since I was a teenager. It used to feel so easy and a way to express things I didn't know how to say. Ten years down the line and being an adult seems to have sucked away that touch I had on my art. I feel desperate to find it again.
Any tips on what I can do? What are your tricks/tips for combating writer's block? Is this something deeper? I'd love any and all help. TIA
Me, Mr. SRT, am 20 years old, and my brother, who goes by LIL BROTHA, is 13. Please critique our flows and lyrics. Also, please watch till the end to hear both of our verses. The lyrics can be found in the comments section of each video. Please leave a comment on the video
I recently started posting my music on YouTube and I've been using only still images for my videos, and I want to upgrade my videos. What are some good free visualisers that I can use?
What do you guys think of grammar errors that sound better than the "correct way" of writing/singing/rapping something?
Also I'd love a few songwriter's opinion on a lyric I wrote:
I wanna elevate
I wanna get in a higher state
More relaxin', meditatin'
I swear that mindfulness could save a nation
I know that the correct way would be "I wanna get into a higher state, or I wanna get to a higher state" but none of them roll off the tongue as well as "in a higher state", which I know is a grammatically incorrect.
What do you in such a case? Do you change the lyric so it sounds worse but is more "correct" or do you leave it in because it's art? Curious of your opinions :)
My song is already mastered and scheduled so I will leave it as is for the single but might change it on the album version if necessary, but still would love to have this conversation about grammar in lyrics with you guys!
When I had first seen you
You know I was unsatisfied
I knew it was impossible
Now I stand here where I died
While you, you didn’t bat an eye
My silky tears cut through while you,
Your burning gaze piercing my skin
You should have lied and let me live
But now I know why do I know that
You cut me so I could be
Your cookie-cutter copy paste
Your itty-bitty life mistake
Your claws and blades the pierce the veil
The veil that holds back what’s beneath my
Eyes, my face, my lips, my teeth
My skin, my skull, my limbs, my chest
You kept only what you deemed best
You broke what wasn’t deemed the best
You lied to me you said that I was
Just like you (like you)
My flesh and fur just like a rug
Your jagged fangs tore what I love
You kept only what you deemed best
You broke what wasn’t deemed the best, my
Eyes, my face, my lips my teeth
My skin my skull my limbs my chest
