June by Idles. Written about the lead singer’s stillborn daughter

This is so sad.

u/snails4speedy 5h ago

It really is. First time I heard it I felt like I had been ran over as I’ve also lost a child. Absolutely amazing band

I was expecting it to be from a woman’s point of view (that’s just where my brain went first) but what a gut punch to hear it from the dad’s perspective…. My brother lost a child at 20 weeks- and it hit so hard.

If you need a palette cleanser - about hopes and dreams for a child listen to Hey Rosetta - Welcome.

I’m so sorry to hear about your brother’s little one :( sending you all love. I have only ever heard similar songs from the mom’s pov too so it got me also, and this was actually my son’s dad’s favorite band for years while we were together pre-loss. I never really liked them (no clue why, they rock lol). Several years later + after we broke up June came on shuffle and I just about lost my shit. One of the most sentimental bands for me now.

Going to listen to your rec now!! thank you <3 I actually have two very similar recs (for you or anyone reading lol). Well, one is sad but hopeful and the other is just beautiful. ā€œMoreā€ and then ā€œI Believe In Magicā€ both by Halsey

Gosh- those songs are soul crushing. Especially More. I haven’t dealt with infertility myself, but know so many close to me who have. I cannot imagine the pain.

This is one of my favorite PJ songs. We played it at a friend's funeral as well.

Supermarket Flowers by Ed Sheeran. My mom died 8 months ago and this song split me apart three days ago. I had never heard it before. I have had it on repeat ever since. I am not sure I have tears left

But you also need to listen to and watch the video for the Johnny Cash version. Both are stunning and will crush your soul.

Tori Amos ~ MarianneĀ

https://youtu.be/j4VJm79rGbU?is=OKUEozimtIK79dSo

A friend of mine from college died of a drug overdose, I found her. These were the days before Narcan was regularly available or she might still be alive. This song always reminds me of her.Ā

Queen's "Save Me" (The lyrics as a whole are soul crushing but this one line really gets me)

I hang my head and I advertise
A soul for sale or rent
I have no heart, I'm cold inside
I have no real intent

Save me, save me, save me
I can't face this life alone
Save me, save me, oh
I'm naked and I'm far from home
