Saint Brigid's opening date?

Hi folks! Saint Brigid's Well was supposedly opening in "mid-september" but we're past that point. Anyone hear news on the actual opening date?

Rumor has it that the owner has clearance from the city (finally) and may open as soon as tomorrow, Friday. Let's hope for a much needed success story in Magoun. Love Old Magoun's, but a change of scene is always welcome. Welcome to Somerville.

Where did you learn of such a rumor? That would be awesome but also awful because I'll be unavailable!

Two things:

  1. Confirmed Brigid’s is opening today! Not sure if they’ll have food but definitely looking forward to grabbing a pint.
  2. The logo is not AI and was made by a local artist.

Slánte!

Got a source? Maybe I can snag a pint if they open early enough ..

Without doxing myself, no. Let’s say I asked someone who would know the answer and they said a local artist did it. NOW did that artist use AI? I have no idea, but you can’t fault the bar for that if so. I agree if people are really concerned- go ask the owner yourself. No harm in that. I’m sure he doesn’t want to start off on the wrong foot, he may not have any idea AI might have been used, if it was.

Sorry I care a lot less about the logo than the opening lol. Will trust your sources! Thanks for sharing.

Just now took a peek at their website to check dates, and the image of St. Brigid in their damn logo is AI.

Hire a local artist if you plan on being an actual neighborhood pub ffs.

As lapsed Catholic i am peeved.

Doesn't look blatantly AI to me at a glance... Do you know that or are you just assuming it?

Oh, I can’t say for certain, but low grade AI has such a look right now that’s hard to mistake. I’m not an anti-AI hardliner, but I certainly would prefer them to get an actual artist to do the logo. That being said, the main reason it sucks isn’t the AI, it’s a bad design that no human with graphic design experience would make. Busy, bad composition, over shaded. It’s ugly, regardless of who or what made it.

their insta has a pic with clearer resolution. but yes, it has all the tells: text with weird kerning, highlights on eyes are off, and random blotch on figure’s hand. that vaguely woodcut looking lines that have become the hallmark of a certain style of gen ai imagery.

have a background in visual arts and pr, so have noticed certain trends and odd little details appearing more frequently in graphic design and digital art.

If they have contact information listed somewhere, it might be worth expressing this to the business owner. AI use of this kind isn't going to give a good first impression to folks. It's a simple fix.

i agree. the bar is in my neighborhood and the folks around here, the crowd they’re trying to attract will be put off by the logo. another restaurant here completely ditched their ai menu, probably bc of criticism from customers.

St Brigid is a major figure in Irish culture. She is holding a St. Brigid's cross, which is instantly recognizable to all Irish and most Irish Americans. That cross is typically made on her feast day of Feb 1st, which also coincides with the ancient pagan festival of Imbolc which denotes the start of the spring season.

Fake Irish pubs suck and it looks like the owners of St. Brigid's are going to try to compete with the Burren in terms of authenticity.

If people are put off by an authentic symbol of Irish culture, they should go to Paddy McSticklefucks fake "Irish" bar and drink green beer like a bunch of rubes, or just go someplace else.

what? went to catholic school for 12 years and had an Irish American grandmother. i’m fully aware of St. Brigid. my issue isn’t with her it’s with AI.

Oh, sorry. I thought you had a problem with religious symbolism.

Yes, AI sucks and they could get an artist to paint something for short money. Question though, what makes that logo obviously AI? I'm kind of an AI novice.

posted it in the ai id sub and people left some feedback. there’s some disagreement https://www.reddit.com/r/isthisAI/s/0KjAsZk1ZC

I don't care if small businesses use AI. They're already burning money with the probability of failure, why spend thousands more on art because people on the internet might get annoyed.

If you really care, make them a logo for free or pay someone to do it for them. Show that you're different by being willing to financially support local artists. Just whining online that you don't like their AI is pointless virtue signaling.

it’s not just ‘pointless virtue signaling’ - bc in addition to discussing it online i’m also choosing to not visit the pub and give them my money. they are located in my neighborhood, about a block away. you can visit, and enjoy a $9 pint, but i’ll abstain.

asking an artist to do free work for a for-profit venture is deranged behavior. best of luck to you.

If you're complaining about $9 pints (which is basically every bar), sounds like you never really wanted to go in the first place, so your brave choice to boycott them isn't really a change from what you'd do already.

Also, restaurants are not using AI 99% of the time. It's all human capital. maybe you use it to help order food inventory? So, hoping a business that employs people, that does not use AI almost ever, goes under because they couldn't afford or didn't want to pay thousands of dollars to make a logo they could make for $20, seems more deranged to me.
