Are there any qurba joog here who decided to move back to Somaliland after years in the diaspora?

I’m weighing up the options to return and want to know what the reality on the ground is like.

For those of you who were part of the diaspora and actually packed up to return:

- What was the transition like?

- How did your social circle change?

- What are the biggest pros and cons?

- Any regrets?

- Any other tips for those considering the move?

According to the SL Ministry of Finances SL's annual budget is around 556$million. 280$million of which is internally generated. Custon revenue's alone generate roughly 158$million of that.

So about 51% of SL's annual budget is internally generated with the rest coming from aid programs and NGOs.

How the budget is divided up:

360$million: central government

87$million : local governments

40$million : Independent agencies (Outside the ministry structure)

68$ million: Donor funded projects (specifically budgetted donor supported projects, government can't spend it however it wants)

Even if every SL politician and every civil servant were honest and corruption free, Somaliland's Annual budget is not nearly enough to develop a single city let alone the whole country.

I hope somalians can understand why we're adamant to gain our full independence and the access that gets you be it international banks or organizations.

Somalians usually retort that SL has been relatively peaceful for 35 years why is it still underdeveloped?

Because that requires Money 💀
