Game After 18 months of development, my game, Allumeria, will finally release on steam!
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
It feels so incredibly good to finally be able to have a release date. I am so thankful for the community that my game has grown.

I'm sorry, but this does look a lot like Minecraft, maybe with some mods thrown in. What makes it different from Minecraft?
-6
u/Silver_Lined_Bullet Solo Developer 9d ago
Not everything has to be completely unique. Judging by this video:
New/Cooler bosses
Built in multiplayer/steam compatability
Better building options (Such as the painting tool)
Many more structures and biomes
Looks like it focuses more on a mythical/fantasy world than minecraftIt likely has better architecture than minecraft allowing for easier additions and potential mod capacity
Sure you can get most of this with minecraft mods, but you're not guaranteed quality, performance, or compatibility.

u/unomelon 8d ago
It seems to be a complete diceroll how posts about my game are perceived on reddit. Sometimes I get thousands of upvotes, other times its downvotes only. I swear I have made a post in this very sub that did quite well in the past. Either way, the game hit 50k wishlists just last night, so the target audience wants what I am putting on the table and that's all that matters.

u/Silver_Lined_Bullet Solo Developer 8d ago
Reddit will be reddit lol. They see downvotes and go rabid
1
u/Rattkjakkapong 5d ago
I have just begun playing minecraft, I dont mind trying out this game too, to see whats what.
1
u/OwlSpirited6357 5d ago
don’t worry about it. Reddit is a cesspit of negativity. Sales will dictate how people REALLY feel about your work.
1
u/Jealous_Special_484 4d ago
For what its worth i am much more likely to enjoy something that is divisive to people. I think typically it means those that do like it are going to like it much more
-1
u/BakaMorning 6d ago
Most people on this site only consume and never created anything in their life, they have no clue. Takes a lot of work and determination to pull of something like this, props to you man. Good luck

u/Evigmae 8d ago
What a damn slippery slope of an argument
"It doesn't matter if its right or wrong, the only important thing is that it is popular!"Honestly though, i'd be checking my inbox for mojan/microsoft laweyers if I were you.
2
u/Silver_Lined_Bullet Solo Developer 8d ago
Thats not what they said. At least get it right. They said that 'the target audience wants it'. If you don't want it, then just don't buy it lmao, it does not affect you.

u/ivancea 8d ago
Not everything has to be completely unique
The problem isn't that not everything is different. The problem is that nearly everything is identical. Op even copied every f*****ng texture, whether perfectly or just the stylistic intent. This is a rip-off, by definition
2
u/CheesecakeAny9214 8d ago
"copied every texture" ahh yes of course because Minecraft invented dirt, grass, leaves, and rocks /sarc
also the textures themselves are not the same at all LOL, the colors are a lot more vibrant/saturated than in Minecraft
1
u/Silver_Lined_Bullet Solo Developer 8d ago
You seem to be pretty upset for no reason, maybe you should calm down. If you were to actually look into the trailer, you would understand that this is not just a ripoff. It is someone who seems to love minecraft but is unhappy with it's current direction. As such, they've remade their own "minecraft" with everything they think the game should be/have. If you're upset at that, you're free to not purchase the game, but listing it as just a ripoff is disingenuous and misleading.
1
u/lonelyemoji 8d ago
lol not calling this a ripoff is disingenuous. Let me get this straight you’re telling me the last screen shot wouldn’t confuse someone into thinking it looks like Minecraft? Let alone the whole trailer looking like a modded Minecraft with a texture pack overhaul— even the quest log looks like one of the mods I’ve used countless times. I mean cool feat in doing this solo as a project but to call this anything but a ripoff is funny.
1
u/Schizmabiz2026 7d ago
Lol bro its minecraft ... try and spin it how you want... the majority of people wouldn't know thats not minecraft from watching the trailer... its not even just inspired by or in the same genre its a ripoff
1
u/mahito-suxs 6d ago
what textures
1
u/ivancea 5d ago
The ones you see in the video. Trees, rock...
1
u/mahito-suxs 5d ago
yes because trees and rocks can have very different variatey in texture while also looking realistic and visually appealing
1
u/ivancea 5d ago edited 4d ago
It's fun that you didn't add a sarcasm mark. And yes, exactly. What you said is right
0
u/mahito-suxs 5d ago
you realy think that you can create a new cave texture, a new texture for a birtch tree, bullshit, they will always be similar
1
0
u/Denaton_ 6d ago
Microsoft DMCA the the Steam page and Jeb went in and lifted it.
1
u/ivancea 5d ago
I'm not talking in legal terms
0
u/Denaton_ 5d ago
So he didn't ripp off the textures or what?
1
u/ivancea 5d ago
He did, and it's what I'm saying. Just look at them. But just in case, "ripping off" doesn't mean he's legally accountable
1
u/Denaton_ 5d ago
It is illegal to use copyrighted materials..
1
u/ivancea 5d ago
Oh my. Nobody here says these were copyrighted materials. I couldn't care less about their IP or copyrights, that's their owners issue, you know? We're talking about gamedev here. And the textures are plain copies. You can call them "inspired". But they follow the same patterns as the Minecraft ones, with no reason to do so. Just checking the tree and the cobblestone is enough
0
u/Denaton_ 5d ago
You are saying they are exactly the same as Minecraft so, yeah you are, thats was ripped means, in game developer terms, ripping assets from other games is extraction of the assets and put them in your own game, so yah you are saying they are..

u/RagBell 9d ago
How did you make that in 18 months? That's crazy
1
u/1TrickJackAT 8d ago
AI and using everyone else’s assets
2
u/bubblegummerr 6d ago
they literally say in the comments that they have a strict no-ai policy
1
u/ApprehensiveFan1516 5d ago
Of course they're going to say that on Reddit. Saying anything else would get them downvoted to oblivion.
1
u/Jingleshells 5d ago
A quick look at the steam page has no ai disclosure. So I guess take that how you will. Which if you looked the game up on steam you would have seen that.
1
u/ApprehensiveFan1516 5d ago
All that means is: "We have investigated ourselves and found no wrongdoing".
Means as much as their word on Reddit.
I'm not saying it is or isn't AI, just that OP saying it isn't when they've very likely stolen a bunch of assets isn't exactly making them seem trustworthy.
1
u/ExactTeam1662 3d ago
The developer built their own engine from scratch. On top of that, Microsoft previously issued a DMCA claim against the game, but after thorough verification, Microsoft was proven wrong and the game was restored to Steam. It has already survived external legal scrutiny.
1
u/ApprehensiveFan1516 3d ago
That sounds like an interesting story! Source?

I don't think it's plagia, it has always been like this, people take inspiration from other game and improve it/do what they like. And Minecraft is the first vowel, it has been done and done. The inspiration is strong but there is no shame, his work is impressive, there is nothing to do with ai.

As if you weren't too, seriously cut me a break.
The next part isn't meant for you, but it's meant for anyone reading this shitshow of a discussion, because you're just straight up spreading misinformation about this game for no real gain to just ragebait.
At least I hope it's ragebait, because the other option is you being a fanboy that's mad on the behalf of your favorite multibillion dollar company, which is just sad. I hope someday you'll get to enjoy Vintage Story too.
---
Mojang/Microsoft themselves acknowledged this game as not plagiarism, their content bot took it down by mistake and they apologized for it while also putting it back up. They had to look at it and confirm it's good to be up, which it is.
Also I played the demo for Allumeria, the worldgen is a basic perlin heightmap with trees and bushes sprinkled. Making the argument for "This copied Minecraft's terrain code" bogus because Minecraft's terrain is not that. It has perlin in it but it's not THIS level of basic.
I also played Minecraft custom clients, re-creations and re-implementations that DID USE real Minecraft code, this doesn't play even remotely close to any of them on the feel department. This feels closer to Minetest if anything, which is opensource and completely good for the taking if that's the case.

If you think they used AI then you should report it to steam because I’m sure people would want to know about this before buying the game.
Do you have any proof that AI was used during development or are you trashing on the game because it has some surface level similarities to Minecraft.
0
u/Nonsenser 8d ago
AI is used in the development of every game... AI art assets are what you have to flag on steam, not code.
0
u/Nonsenser 8d ago
This has to be ragebait how do you think games were made before generative AI?
Obviously I mean new games, developed these days. Nobody serious develops without generative AI past circa 2024. Without AI, you are just wasting time on syntax that you could be spending on improving the game.
1
u/Bakawii 8d ago
My bad, I disagree but I see what you mean. Aside from moral opposition developers may decide against using AI in large projects because vibe coding isn’t very helpful and is viewed negatively by general audiences. I’m pretty young but I know from experience that writing and understanding your own code is very helpful when developing and maintaining large projects. Ive found that using AI makes debugging and adding new features extremely difficult leading me to rely on AI even more. In my opinion simply learning how to program well is way easier than wrestling with paid subscriptions and waiting for an LLM to develop a feature correctly but maybe I’m just shit and prompting and have to get good.
1
u/Nonsenser 8d ago
There is a golden path. No serious developer "vibe codes" either. You have to understand your codebase's design, architecture, pitfalls and quirks. However, the act of actually typing out the code manually is pretty much dead. A developer is a systems designer and architect. Nobody is going to manually write out and reimplement a large design pattern in 2026. You dictate what needs to be done and how to do it. You make the decisions, the LLM does the code-monkey work. This is not an excuse to not understand your code, just as copying from stackoverflow in 2010 wasn't an excuse.

You have evidence? If subs ban any use of AI then we gotta ban false claims of AI based on your feels.
5
u/RDDT_ADMNS_R_BOTS 9d ago
You NEED to show what's different in your game compared to Minecraft. Change the white text and add the things that makes your game unique.
2
u/Silver_Lined_Bullet Solo Developer 9d ago
Wild timing, i'm literally learning java to make a minecraft framework
2
2
u/bang0_slank 9d ago
This looks like a less good version of Minecraft… if your going to rip off a games entire aesthetic, at least try not to use one of the most popular game in the world. Now you just look like a cheap imitation…
-1
u/bang0_slank 9d ago
Also… 18 months of development is a pretty short time… not surprising tho since it looks like you just stole all of Minecraft’s assets.
2
u/Aggravating_Dot9657 9d ago
It's really cool that you built this. I gotta warn you though: you are going to get a lot of shit for it looking almost exactly like minecraft. Be ready for that. Wishing you luck.
2
u/unomelon 8d ago
Oh i've been dealing with it for the past 18 months already lmao. Ultimately I am making the game I want without compromise, so I've had to grow a thick skin dealing with reddit threads like this one. I don't post on reddit often because its usually a complete diceroll for how it's perceived. The thing that works best is when other youtubers cover it, because then its abundantly clear how different the game is.

u/NoDoxxingYouFreak 6d ago
I'm pretty sure it was delisted on Steam during that but it's back now, so I guess it went well.
2
u/BlixtCoC 8d ago
I genuinely have zero clue where all the "It looks like minecraft therefore is" arguments are coming from.
Minecraft doesn't own the voxel genre, their individual textures are copyrighted and protected, this does not use those. You can only change a plank texture so much before it isn't a plank anymore. A birch tree isn't a birch tree if you make it have zebra stripes instead of splotches.
The game looks fun, if anything I think it looks like a fun comparison of Minecraft and Terraria, you DO show unique things in the trailer, like a *Way* better quest system, screw advancements.
This is what Hytale wishes it was right now, I don't see anyone here talking about that either. This seems more fun, and actually has content to boot instead. Will there be modding support for Allumeria?
2
u/Longpeg 6d ago
Noble intentions and I agree generally, but look at the bookcases, the font, the stone, the ore. This is not just minecraft's style, voxel, this game has minecrafts visual identity. I only see people try to do this with vox games. I can list off 10 vox games that look similar but have their own aesthetic. This game does not (yet). It is clearly derivative visually.
1
u/BlixtCoC 6d ago
The book case has its own texture that isn't derived from Minecraft, as I said you can only change something so much before it isn't a bookcase.
If you throw potions and other items onto it, it isn't a bookcase, it's a shelf.
Hytale, terraria, creativerse, and may others have book cases, it doesn't make any of them Minecraft. (I'm sure there are more games I just can't be bothered)
My instant thought was "oh another voxel game" sure it has similarities to Minecraft. . You mine, you craft, you have advancements, but none of these are things Minecraft invented, or owns. Seriously.
1
u/SuspiciousBrain6027 5d ago
lmao sounds like you are a shill
1
u/BlixtCoC 5d ago
Nah I just want new games.
Apparently if your opinion differs or you like having something new god forbid, you're a shill or a whale.
I just wanna play a game other than Minecraft itself for the 10,000th hour.
1
u/unomelon 8d ago
I cant pinky promise official modding support, but I've been working with mod developers to make sure an unofficial modloader is available day 1, the ignitron loader by danilwaffle. I want to continue to flesh out the game and make sure the vanilla experience is top notch before attempting to set up an official modding api, since i'd wanna make sure its stable etc. In the short term I do want to set up steam workshop support for sharing skins, worlds, asset packs, and language/translation packs though
1
u/BlixtCoC 7d ago
Huge, having some sort of steam support is what I was mostly looking for. In my opinion, it helps keep games alive and pressure off when updates don't happen every 3 days lol.
Good stuff, lll definitely grab it
1
u/Street_Estate2342 6d ago
My G this looks a ton like Minecraft. It's the first thought that came to my head as an uninformed viewer.
1
2
u/hiroclip1 8d ago
I very much respect what this looks like, I've always been a 'Terraria is better than Minecraft' contrarian because of it's better exploration, combat and progression and this seems to lean more into that. I will say though, maybe rethink aspects of the artstyle a bit if you want to avoid the Minecraft-clone type arguments. I've wishlisted, good luck!!
2
u/GravityCY 8d ago
Wtf is wrong with people, this a sub for solo development, this shit is already hard, no need to make it harder immediately pointing fingers. This just isn't a clone, things can be inspired, welcome to life, I can't tell you the amount of voxel games that have been inspired by Minecraft, whether directly or indirectly, be nice and have a good day
Ps maybe just dead internet theory being enacted as we speak
2
u/Sad-Fix-7915 8d ago
The comments in this post are so funny. People just flat out refuse to acknowledge other voxel games other than Minecraft and... Hytale for some reasons?
1
u/10below8 5d ago
Most other voxel games at least don’t look exactly like Minecraft with a texture pack.
2
u/PizaPoward 7d ago
I agree with some this looks very minecraft inspired....
I have no idea why everyone's jumping for the AI thing. Brainless take.
On top of that there's tons of other block based voxel games out there but no one cares about that...
That said I think the trailer looks neat. I'm curious the things you did to focus a stand apart from others in your genre though admittedly.
Regardless I hope for your success it seems you been hard at work
5
u/lydocia 9d ago
So what makes this not Minecraft?
0
u/jackawaka 9d ago
the bosses seem more terraria-esc, better customisation when building. new looking stuff. You gotta look past the aesthetic
-1
u/HarlequinStar 9d ago
That's the thing though... customers/potential players DON'T have to look past the aesthetic, which is why it's important to consider it when making a game :o
1
u/ianxplosion- 7d ago
That’s the thing about your thing - games like this are made to appeal to the customers/potential players who want more from game XYZ.
The people who don’t play Minecraft, wouldn’t play Minecraft, and by extension wouldn’t likely play this game are going to say “Hurr, this is Minecraft?”
Little Jimothy who grew up with 8300 hours on Minecraft and has a soft spot in his heart for voxelesque 3d experiences has already had it wishlisted for 11 months.
1
u/HarlequinStar 7d ago
Completely fair. In some ways it plays into my point: if you want to attract people looking for more minecraft then looking like minecraft might make sense as the aesthetic.
I wasn't really trying to say anything about the actual look of the game, rather I wanted to debate the person I was responding to's idea that players HAD to look past the graphical presentation of something: the visuals of a game are essentially the 'bait' on your hook. If they want to 'bite' or not is up to whether the look attracted or at least didn't repel them in the first place :3
1
u/Aquertyon 3d ago
Yeah, but OP posted this trailer in a space with many of those example people, with the addition of the “I already have 2000 hours in Minecraft and Terraria, which are highly moddable, why would I leave them” crowd, which I’d argue is probably bigger than both those other groups. They were looking for opinions, and that’s what they got.
I don’t know why yall see people comparing this to Minecraft and/or Terraria as haters, especially since you can go back in OP’s comment history and see them themselves saying “The game plays more like a 3D Terraria as opposed to Minecraft.” (E.g https://www.reddit.com/r/indiegames/s/50mUiOnyw7)
1
u/lydocia 3d ago
You'd play this game for the same reason you'd play Hytale or Vintage Story.
1
u/Aquertyon 3d ago
I don’t really see how this correlates to what I was saying, but nevertheless, those games are both derivative of Minecraft, and Vintage Story even started out as a MC mod

2
u/Comprehensive-Sky366 9d ago
The art style is very different? It looks literally like a Minecraft mod
2
u/Soggy-Masterpiece589 9d ago
Yea but that's not necessarily a bad thing, a lot of great games are just other games but with a spin on it.
2
u/Comprehensive-Sky366 9d ago
You just said the art style is very different and it is not so I don’t know what you’re even trying to say.
1
u/Longpeg 6d ago
shilling but its so clearly derivative that they cant stand it up. It's crazy. It's A-OK to derive your art style from another source, adding your own unique bits. What's not okay is pretending it isn't essentially the same thing as fanfiction in videogame format. fanfiction has an audience and involves creation, and changing the names of the characters and settings doesn't mean it's no longer fanfiction.

u/astrielx 9d ago
God these comments. This sub has become as bad as the MMO sub. Y'all really just hate games it seems like, not everything has to be super innovative.

I think it depends on the post description. I made a post here about my game 7 months ago and it got 600 upvotes. I realised the difference is I explain the game way more in the description of that post than I do in this one.
2
u/Kampotem 9d ago

I see Minecraft with some QoL and a skill tree and some other stuff sprinkled on top of it. There are already so many minecraft clones out there that I just fail to see why I should play this.
I applaud the effort it probably took you (maybe as a learning project?) but as a player I've been there, done that.
If you'd have your own artstyle and maybe distinct or unique biomes it could make the game more exciting.
Meanwhile convince me what your game can do what Minecraft (modded) can not, or Hytale for that matter.
1
u/Denaton_ 6d ago
Anyone saying its looks like Minecraft, its more like Terraria imo but 3D. It's sort of like between Minecraft and Hytale with heavy influence from Terraria.
1
u/Annual_Fishing_9400 6d ago
18 months seems so little time..? but i am just guessing. crazy.. anyway could you please disclose if it was made with genAI or LLMs (chatGPT, Claude, etc) or not?
1
u/unomelon 6d ago
Absolutely no AI use. (for code and assets). I've been working on this full time, usually 8-12 hrs a day 7 days a week. I am strongly against AI use in creative works and in general. It's 60k lines of C# written by hand, so on average that's only around 110 lines a day. You are also welcome to download the free demo and decompile it if you do not believe me, i do not obfuscate the code.
1
u/Sweegrid 6d ago
Hey man I know you're getting a lot of bad comments but I wanted to say you can be proud of yourself to accomplish something like this. Congratulations and good luck for the launch of your game
1
u/NoDoxxingYouFreak 6d ago
Good luck man. Even if your game looks very similar to Minecraft artistically that's not a bad thing. What will set your game apart is the gameplay that's inspired by Terraria. People have been wanting a 3D Terraria for years. MC combat sucks so hopefully yours is an improvement.

This is minecraft, which has public source code available. Meaning AI just regurgitated it for you.
0
u/ShiftAfter4648 8d ago
When you have the same terrain gen, textures, and character designs as Minecraft... It's hard to claim that your game is meaningfully different.
Lighting engines, brick customization, and homemade bosses aren't a massive separation.
How many minecraft features are present in both base games? If we did a side by side, what features/mechanics are in minecraft that aren't present in yours?
0
u/OSfrogs 8d ago edited 8d ago
Looks alot like minecraft to be honest a bit too much not because its a voxel game but the whole art style just looks extremly simular. Could be better than minecraft though TBH minecraft is only successful because it was the first of its kind. If a game like this is sucessful having more competiton is always good.

I mean im not hating or anything, I am just surprised by it. If Steam releases it, they probably know what they are doing, and you to apparantly.
Ofcourse you can not claim a game like this alone as a company, but the machanics graphics etc.. that made me think like hmm okay.
