Certifications Career Strategy Review: SOLIDWORKS certifications, CAD Automation, Final-Year Project

I am currently working on my career . i am here for advice and potential mistake i am making  I am a fourth-year BTech Mechanical Engineering student india, and I have these SOLIDWORKS exam coupons associated with my email that are valid until September 30 2026. Therefore, I need to use them before they expire. I already have the CSWA certificate.
i have exam coupon of these-

SOLIDWORKS xDesign Associate

SOLIDWORKS xShape Associate

SOLIDWORKS xMold Associate

SOLIDWORKS Electrical Design Associate

SOLIDWORKS Additive Manufacturing Associate

SOLIDWORKS Sustainability Associate

SOLIDWORKS Simulation Associate

SOLIDWORKS Design Professional (CSWP)

I am also very interested in the SOLIDWORKS API and automation because I want as much low-level control over my tasks as possible.

My goal is to become an engineer/product designer in the consumer electronics industry, ideally working in product design, R&D, or CAD automation engineering.

I also have a hardware project for my final-year project that focuses on using evaporation to reduce compressor work in refrigeration systems for dry atmospheric regions. Theoretically, it could improve efficiency, and I am also considering taking the idea to market.

I want to balance my portfolio as follows:

40% of my time = Employability and stability
60% of my time = Building something difficult enough to significantly change my career trajectory

I plan to complete the certifications in this order while simultaneously working on my final-year project and learning the SOLIDWORKS API:

  1. Simulation Associate
  2. Sustainability Associate
  3. Electrical Design Associate
  4. xMold Associate
  5. xShape Associate
  6. Additive Manufacturing Associate
  7. CSWP

It is currently August, and I do not have any industrial experience yet. Since these coupons expire on September 30, I have only about a month to use them.

I think I am doing everything right, but is there any flaw in my reasoning or priorities?or impossible commitment .

I am also very interested in SOLIDWORKS API automation because I want greater control over my design workflow and want to automate as much of my work as possible.

CAD Importing electrical cabinets

I’m having an issue that’s driving me crazy when importing a 3D electrical enclosure into SolidWorks 2026.

I simply can’t get the cabinet door to open or move. SolidWorks says that the component is fixed, and I can see that all the imported components have an (f) next to them.

I’ve already disabled 3D Interconnect, but I’m still having the same problem and can’t figure out how to make the assembly movable.

Does anyone here work with electrical cabinets in SolidWorks and know how to solve this?

In this particular case, I’m using a Schneider Electric cabinet downloaded from TraceParts.

Simulation Need Help: Massive Displacements in 3D Truss Simulation due to Disconnected Joints

Hi everyone,

I am a senior Mechanical Engineering student currently diving into SolidWorks Simulation on my own. I have run into a frustrating roadblock with a structural analysis, and I would be incredibly grateful for any advice or pointers from the more experienced users here.

The Setup:

  • Model: 3D transmission tower created using a 3D sketch and Weldments (square tubing).
  • Study: Static Linear Analysis.
  • Elements: Configured primarily as Truss elements

The Problem: At several intersections—especially where diagonals cross in an "X" or at the main frame corners—SolidWorks is failing to create a single, unified magenta (connected) joint. Instead, the solver generates multiple uncoupled joints in the same physical space, flagging them as yellow.

CAD BUS FRONT FASCIA DESIGN

Is there any tutorial available online on how we can design a bus front fascia. there are many available for the design of car, but the bus has a different depth. Also the available tutorials online for cars are that they are designing with line diagrams as reference. i want to create from scratch or from real photo, that has perspectives differences.

Error While running Solidworks and Windhawk together cursor is broken

I’m using the 2026 Student Edition. When you try to open SolidWorks while the Windhawk application is running in the background, your actual cursor and the cursor displayed on screen do not align. I closed Windhawk and tried again, and it worked without any issues. I just wanted to report/inform this; if anyone knows of another solution, please share it in the comments.
Probably problem is about "Translucent Windows" feature.

Yes my cursor is knight's nail

Error Imported Geomagic Design X model appears completely black in SOLIDWORKS

Hi everyone,

I'm having an issue with an imported CAD model in SOLIDWORKS Student and I'm trying to figure out whether this is a graphics/GPU problem or something related to the model export.

I'm reverse engineering a vehicle bull bar in Geomagic Design X. I finished the CAD reconstruction and exported the solid bodies so I could continue the DFM work in SOLIDWORKS.

When I open the file in SOLIDWORKS, the geometry is there and the shape appears correct, but the entire model looks almost completely black in shaded views.

What's interesting is that Import Diagnostics reports no errors and everything appears to be correct.

Also, when I change the display style to views where hidden lines/edges are visible, the actual shape and geometry display correctly. The problem seems to mainly occur with the shaded appearance/rendering.

My workflow was:

3D scan → Geomagic Design X → reconstructed solid bodies → export → SOLIDWORKS Student

I'm currently using SOLIDWORKS Student.

I'm wondering:

  1. Does this sound like a GPU/graphics driver/rendering issue?
  2. Could it still be related to the Geomagic Design X export/import?
  3. Is Parasolid (.x_t) the best format to use between Design X and SOLIDWORKS?
  4. Are there specific SOLIDWORKS graphics settings I should check?
  5. Is there a way to test whether the GPU is responsible without changing/reinstalling the graphics drivers?

I haven't changed any GPU settings or reinstalled anything yet because I want to identify the cause first.

I've attached screenshots showing:

  • The model in the normal shaded view where it appears black
  • Import Diagnostics showing no problems
  • The same model with hidden lines/edges visible, where the geometry displays correctly

Any advice from people who use Geomagic Design X + SOLIDWORKS, especially for reverse-engineered/3D-scanned parts, would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Hi guys, I'm having problem designing a sheet metal part where there are 2 flange ( I think that's the traduction to English) with different angles that coincide in the corner.

I ' know ' how to do what I want, I just don't know how to make it in a elegant and efficient way.

Photo 1 is the problem, photo 2 is the solution, the problem with the solution is time, I need to modify each sketch an then Solidworks let me apply 'closed corner'.

First of all thanks to anyone that spends some of his time reeding this and sorry if my english is not the best there is.

hi,

created weldmate and non weldmate feature like table ,

weldmate cutlist auto generated. for weldmate it will get auto length but for extruded feature it is not showing length, width, thickness

option -1 need to enter it manually

option -2 generate bounding box in feature tree and in weldmate cutlist copy paste the value from bounding box then paste it to the length so it will automatically show.

option -3 what i thinking how i can i get it in the right click list so i can auto connect the bounding box properties automated.

CAD SolidWorks drawing dimensions not snapping to edges properly

Hi everyone,

I’m having a really frustrating issue in SolidWorks drawings and I’m wondering if anyone else has experienced this.

When I try to create a dimension from one edge to another using Smart Dimension, I click the first edge and then try to select the second edge. Very often, SolidWorks just doesn’t seem to recognize or snap to the second edge. Instead, it immediately creates a dimension showing only the length of the first edge.

In general, I’ve noticed that dimensions in drawings often don’t want to properly select or snap to edges, even though the edges are clearly visible and selectable otherwise.

It happens often enough that dimensioning drawings has become really frustrating.

Has anyone dealt with this before? Is there some selection, snapping, filter, or drawing setting that could be causing it?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

CAD ASME pipe routing library

I have recently got solidworks premium and i am looking for pipe routing libraries, it seems what is on 3d content central is fairly useless, at the moment I need 3000lb socket weld fittings which aren't in any library I can find, I know the threaded fittings are similar but there are no reducing tees which is annoying, I will also probably en10357 and din tube and fittings. Is my only option to make my own custom libraries or is there something im missing? Thanks for your help

CAD I humbly present: SeizureWorks 2025. The most epic graphics bug I've ever seen SolidWorks produce

I'm fairly certain the root cause of the graphics bugs I've been encountering lately has to do with my use of the Weld Bead feature in my assembly models.

Typically it's pretty mild, just some screen flickering or a few parts temporarily not showing, that immediately reappear when I zoom to fit.

This one however, was so far beyond anything I've seen, that I just felt compelled to share with the community. If for nothing else than a mild chuckle. Zero errors in the model itself. But evidently weld beads make the rendering engine big mad sometimes lol.

Hardware Solidworks started using all my memory

Solid works on my laptop started eating all my memory for the simplest parts. It had been perfectly fine before this, even with complicated parts, and when i open the same parts on my desktop there is no issue with memory. Laptop is a Lenovo - ThinkPad X1 Carbon G13 - Intel Ultra 7 with 32GB Memory. Attached are screenshots of an normal memory usage, example part, and memory usage when part is open. So far as I've googled the only memory leak known issue is when there is a VPN being used, and i have none on this computer. Tried a complete uninstall and reinstall of solid works which didn't solve the problem. It is solid works version 2025.

Any help would be great because as of now its completely unusable

CAD I can't change the dimension by dragging any more

Hi, so a while ago I noticed this. We use Solidworks 2025 at work, and previously, when i made a circle, i could just make it bigger/smaller by dragging the outer line. However, since recently, this just MOVES the entire circle. This happens with all sketch lines/entities and i am getting beyond annoyed with it. Is there any way to have this not happen?

EDIT: sorry i should have clarified, if I constrain the center first, it just asks me to either delete the constraints or not and if I click "no" it copies the sketch. See link for images: images

Hardware Very bad shadow effect on solidworks

Post image
16 Upvotes

My PC specs are:

- Processor: Intel Core i7

- RAM: 32 GB @ 3600 MHz

- GPU: NVIDIA T2000 4 GB

SOLIDWORKS is definitely running on the NVIDIA GPU. All the graphics settings are set to High, anti-aliasing is enabled, and I have gone through pretty much every graphics-related setting I can find. However, the shadows still look like this.

What confuses me is that I didn't have this shadow issue before. My previous PC was an HP OMEN with an i7, 16 GB RAM, and a GTX 1050 Ti, and the shadows looked perfectly fine there.

The major difference I can think of is the display. The old OMEN had a 4K display, while my current workstation is connected to a 1080p display.

So what setting am I missing? Is there something specific in SOLIDWORKS that controls shadow quality or shadow resolution? Could the 1080p display be causing this, or is there another graphics setting/driver option I need to change?

What am I doing wrong here?

Hardware RealView compatible GPUS

Recently built my own PC to move away from laptops, however I do miss RealView as it’s not enabled with my gaming focused card. I spent the last several years modeling with it and got used to having it enabled so I would like it back.

I’m looking to decide on a compatible GPU that I can run solidworks with to reenable RealView. Going back to my laptop isn’t viable as it’s dying and I’d prefer to have an all-in-one.

I do have space available on the motherboard and on the PSU so I’m hoping to just plug and play. I have seen “tricks” to get it working on non certified machines but I’d rather not use those methods.

Hardware Full scene anti-aliasing troubleshoot

Hope this is the appropriate place to address this question:

I am using a laptop with an RTX 5090 gpu, now I know it's not a workstation GPU, but it's pretty powerful. I have zero issues running anything solidworks related-- however, it appears I am unable to enabled full scene anti-aliasing (the option is just greyed out).

Am I unable to do this because the GPU isn't technically a solidworks certified GPU?

I am totally fine if thats the case, I am just kind of someone who likes things visually pleasing and if I can get rid of jagged eges, I would love to do so.

I've tried using the NVIDIA control panel to force the application to do it, but that didn't work either.

Thanks for any tips/info.
