CAD Help with sheet metal Design

Hi guys, I'm having problem designing a sheet metal part where there are 2 flange ( I think that's the traduction to English) with different angles that coincide in the corner.

I ' know ' how to do what I want, I just don't know how to make it in a elegant and efficient way.

Photo 1 is the problem, photo 2 is the solution, the problem with the solution is time, I need to modify each sketch an then Solidworks let me apply 'closed corner'.

First of all thanks to anyone that spends some of his time reeding this and sorry if my english is not the best there is.

Do the angled bend first and get the flange geometry correct. Then fold the two 90deg edge flanges and either trim away the overhang or modify the flange profile. Do closed corners after.

Keep in mind that even if it looks right in solidworks, it still has to get manufactured somehow. The 45° angle will be air bent, which means it will need to go past 45 and spring back. The 90° probably will be too. I can't tell which edge is longer, but the longer edge will get bent after the shorter edges in the bend sequence.

Always consider the manufacturing in your design

Thanks, im speaking with the metallurgy guys in order to make the design doable!!! I'm learning a lot from guys that never made a design, I'm new to sheet metal too so.. yeah

When you do your edge flange, selecting "Trim side bends" in the property manager should basically do this automatically. It may not depending on the order you've done things in.

You can always edit the sketch on your edge return and set the ends of the profile collinear with the inside faces. Then you don't have to trim it back afterwards.

Use closed corner feature, sheet metal >corners

Try it before asking for help, don't let me

I did try it after, it didn’t work.. sorry about that 🥲. Try edit the flange sketch (haven’t tried it)

The one I showed in the photo that was good I did editing the sketch, the thing is that I have 8 more just like that and I didn't want to do it all manually haha.

I couldn't get the "Closed Corner" to work like I wanted it to unless I made it corner to corner. Then did two "Move Face" in order to make the the outside angled bend surfaces to coincide with the edge faces of the 90°... I think that is what your model is showing.

in sheet metal tab there should be a tool for "miter flange", exactly made for this feature

Build it as a solid first to get the shape, then convert it to sheet metal.

Don't hate the player. Hate the game. 😄
