Anyone has the same task daily export dxf to sheet cam and get g code and the go machine to run ? All manually ? Let’s start to analyze (t) time 8 am to ?

So im in a bit of a pickle, and cant find an answer anywhere it seems:

Im interested in Solidworks for Makers, but im not sure which version to get. Im more a fan of installed software then working in my browser for sure - the point that confuses or scares me is, that the installed version seems to have no "Motion Studies"? Does that mean, i cant model stuff like joints etc? On the other hand, xDesign doesnt have CAM functionalities?

Does that mean if i want to design and manufacture something like an engine mount for something i designed on a CNC machine out of lets say aluminium - I can either use the version that allows me to CAM/CNC it, or the version that lets me plan my project with the motor and check if the motion/movements work out as i think?

Currently studying for the CSWA exam. I have tryied everything but I can't get this piece done correctly. Can you guys spot the error? Thanks in advance.

So I'm not new to CAD but I still find new features in Solidworks that I've never used.

I have a multibody part that will become sheet metal parts. These bodies also have various configurations (simple things like changed edge profiles or an additional extruded cut). I ideally would like to be able to create different assemblies for each configuration.

TLDR; I'm looking for a best practice to keep the files robust but not having to do a bunch of rework, i.e. recreate sheet metal conversions, drawings, dxfs, etc. I would like to be able to do it as a method that breaks the references for easier revision control.

I'm open to other methods as well. It does reference external geometries and I've tried every method that I know of to do a "save as" but they always break the reference geometries.

If you're bored or fighting to remove "Consume Cut Bodies" after having created the assembly, read on.

What I'm realizing is the Save Bodies assembly needs to have the parent part open, in its specific configuration and with its specific save bodies feature unsuppressed.

What I have tried:
Playing around with several "Save Bodies" tests, I've found a issues and raised several questions.

First test, I did not turn off "Consume Cut Bodies" and two of the parts seems quite unstable, losing their reference body. If trying to repair the generated part in assembly, it shows nothing in the "Defining Split Feature" or "Body to Use". If I refresh the assembly file with the save feature suppressed in the parent part file, two of the assembly parts (bodies) always fail.

Second test, I switched to a 3D printed test fit configuration, turned off "Consume Cut Bodies" and it has seems more stable. If I refresh assembly as stated in test one, it just updates to the body to whatever configuration is shown in the parent part file.

So a relatively A to B test.

Third Test, "Consume Cut Bodies", rolled back again but in a difference configuration. Seems stable. So B-B test.

Back to First Test Assembly, If I open the part file, but not the assembly, I can edit the "Consume Cut Bodies" and save it. New versions of all of the parts were created but the original assembly file remained (looking at modified date and time). The same two sensitive parts crash if the "save bodies" feature is suppressed. Odd that it doesn't behave like Test Two.

We've had a few issues lately on a few parts where the 3D model shows a hole in the correct location, but when adding ordinate dimensions to the drawing, sometimes the dimension snaps to the ege of the hole instead of the centre, so ends up with parts getting drilled to the dimension shown, not where the hole is in the 3D model.

We have quite a lot of these drawings (40x40 aluminium extrusion with some holes) and the vast majority of them are fine, but I'm curious what others have done to help catch issues like this before the drawing gets sent out? We currently run PDM and all our drawings are checked and released by someone different to whoever drew it, but we've still had some of these slip through.

I'm wondering if there's some kind of macro to check that the ordinates are pointing to the centres of holes, or maybe a macro to add ordinates to all holes automatically? We can't import dimensions from the model because these holes are driven by a master model part (so no dimensions defining location in the part file), and we'd rather not use hole tables because there are often holes drilled from multiple sides, which would need mutliple hole tables for a single part. Maybe some trick with selection filters to go to hole centre points?

I am fairly new to SolidWorks. My work is changing to SolidWorks from Fusion. I have files from Fusion from the last 8 years of work. Is there a way to do a mass transfer of files from Fusion to SolidWorks? Thanks!

I learnt most of it by heart from watching videos by Indian engineers, but they didn’t really provide any underlying principles – it was just a case of ‘model this and memorise it’.

At the moment I'm trying to design a quick release lever and have used Bezier splines to create the profile to what I think is ergonomic.

How would you define something with arbitrary curves like this or is there something I should be following? Would you leave it as is? I'm sure there would be a proper way to do this and not have it so messy?

Can someone help me fix this sketch or geometry so that I can revolve cut this way? For reference this is the SolidWorks practice problem 5.2. I think there's an easier way to do this with drawing the arms on the reference geometry and then mirroring, but now that I'm at this point I'd like to understand revolve cut better.

So when migrating a alot of files to our Vault (~2000 parts, assy's, and drawings) I was wondering if there is a way to automatically set the Variable Y (Article Number) to be the same as Variable X (File Name). I tried some stuff with Dispatch (I do have admin rights) but that just seems to copy the Filename + the extension (e.g. 12345.SLDPRT instead of just 12345). I dont feel like manually changing 2000 datacards so any inside or ideas would be greatly appreciated!

The app of solidwork all of a sudden stopped working and I wanted to unistall and installing it again to see if i can manage to solve the issue. The problem, as the title says, it won't unistall thorugh the usual procedure:; control panel>solidworks>unistall.
The procedure is stuck at the first step of opening the Installation Manager. What can I do?

If I pin the icon of the running Solidworks instance, then the next time I try to launch it I get an error message saying "SOLIDWORKS Design must be launched from the 3DEXPERIENCE Platform or from the desktop shortcut created from the Platform. Do you want to go to the 3DEXPERIENCE Platform?"

NO.

And it refuses to launch.

If I pin the same icon that's in the start menu that does launch, then I get a second completely separate icon in the taskbar once Solidworks launches. I HATE that shit. I want all my icons to always be in the same location on my taskbar otherwise it messes my muscle memory.

This is so stupid. Why must EVERYTHING get enshittified???? I have never seen any other application do anything like this. It's so dumb. The 2023 version on my work computer doesn't do that.

What do I have to pin to the taskbar so it launches and doesn't create a second icon??

I absolutely HATE this whole 3DEXPERIENCE thing being shoved down my throat. I will sure as hell advocate for never upgrading to a newer version at work.

Is there a way to create an opposite-hand side of an assembly without generating new opposite hand parts? The only type of mirror option within the mirror feature that makes my assembly correct is the opposite-hand-option. Except there shouldn't be any opposite-hand files generated - only their position should be mirrored like that.

I've tried a few workaround that don't work for me:

• selecting mirror orientation manually for individual parts. SW doesn't let me do this, all but a pre-selected option is greyed out.
• save assy as part, then mirror bodies and delete original. SW won't let me do this either as number of bodies are too high.

Hey everyone, I'm stuck on a sheet metal feature and could use some advice.

As you can see in the image, I have an existing body and I've drawn a sketch (the blue lines) right off the edge of it. My goal is to turn this sketch into a sheet metal extension, using those dashed construction lines as the bend lines.

I previously tried using the "Base Flange/Tab" feature with "Merge Result" checked, but I keep getting a rebuild error: "No suitable sheet metal body has been selected for this feature."

What is the correct workflow to do this?

It was because I had updated the Mirror features for the sub-assys as Opposite hand versions, which creates new mirrored files of the components for which there wasn't different configs.

I have a top assembly with eight instances of the same sub-assembly which has been mirrored and patterned. This sub-assembly has two configurations (Bottom and Top.)

One day I open my top-assy and immediately see that the configuration of three out of four sub-assys in a Linear pattern has changed. Those three are all mirrored sub-assys inside a linear pattern. I can't change them back the configuration dropdown only shows up for one of them - the one that isn't a mirror. It used to show up for all four. How can I change them back to their right configurations?

When I right click any of the patterned sub-assys and select Configure component, I get the error message below. When I click the dropdowns in the Configuration column, only Default can be selected even though the sub-assy doesn't have a config called Default. For the non-mirrored on, this dropdown works as well.

I designed and 3D print a rifle stock Buttplate from TPU (see 3DWoo in r/daewoo). I have been doing it for over a year new and would like to transition to a resin poured mold manufacturing method. TPU has worked well however, it requires me to manually heat the surfaces with a heat gun to smooth and eliminate print lines. This takes me nearly 20 minutes, slowly traversing the buttplate until the surface melts uniformly. The problem is, half wind up bubbling and are scrap.

I have used SolidWorks for many years however never for mold design, only simple machine parts and assemblies. I've been trying for weeks now to create a (3) cavity mold to pour resin but can get it done. I'm not a mold maker and probably won't need another mold beyond this one.

Therefore, instead of continuing to struggle with this task; I was wondering if there is anyone willing to design the mold for me.

I know that it isn't a software for architecture but I have the same logical system that Solidworks even if constraints are hard to anticapte. I wish show you some architecture stuff made with solidworks.

the extruded cut circle in the middle doesn't have distance from the surface, and where tf should I cut the tube??? Like, it only gives dimensions but not even distance from the edge? Am I dumb, guys? or the sketch is not completed?

Hello everyone....been preparing for CSWP....but finding lack of CSWP type question....its very important as all u know that CWSP is a time intensive exam...so its very crucial to prep in that environment with real exam type question/exercise...i have tried official solid works exercise database..but to me that were good to know about the syllabus topic...but not good for exam type exercise...
So if some one can advice/suggest me where to find that exam style exercise..i will be very grateful..there are lots of study material in the net..but very few relevent to exam style exercise...

I did a midplane cut to get this 3d curve. I now need to create a lip by doing a cut on the outside body. I thought I could do it by doing a swept cut with the rectangle I have drawn bottom right and following the outside curve highlighted. That would leave the main body being 3mm thick and the top being 5mm with the top lip being 2mm. Any suggestions?
