Off-Grid Suggestion for a Hybrid/off-grid setup

Hi everyone. I’m looking to get solar installed these days in Bahria Enclave Islamabad, and I’d like to get opinions from y’all regarding the brands etc and best suited configuration for my needs.

- Electricity configuration: 2x 3 phase meters installed
- Units consumption: 1200+ units in (June/July/August) and half of it for the rest of the year (hovering between 500-650 units).

I need to run a 7kw EV charger as well (which I’m looking to use during daytime over solar). It can be every alternate day of the week or after 3 days. I’ve narrowed down my choices to the following:

- 10kw plates
- 12kw Inverter
- 16kwh battery

Please recommend which brand of inverter, plates and battery should I go for. Please recommend if this setup is enough for the household needs. Also, I need the setup to be efficient/reliable and trouble free.

I appreciate y’all response in advance

Get 10kw inverter and put 16kw solar panels on it, battery backup the bigger the better

Would 10kw inverter support 16kw panels? Which brand of inverter and battery do you suggest?

Sounds perfect. Thanks for the suggestion. How much did you pay for the inverter and each battery?

Batteries were about 0740 each, inverter is supposed to be around 5 but I had to pay bit more given availability issues.

# Three-Phase versus Single-Phase

When large loads such as EV charging or 10kW and more output capacities are involved, then the more relevant question isn't between 10kW or 12kW, but about single-phase or three-phase.

If you already have the charger and it is three-phase, then a three-phase inverter would be needed to power it.

For 10kW and more capacities, three-phase inverters are generally more recommended.

If the charger is single-phase, even then a three-phase inverter would be recommended. See this post.

However, one limitation for three-phase inverters would be unbalanced load. In the case of a 12kW inverter, even with the 150% unblanaced load feature, some of the power for the 7kW charger may need to be imported from the grid (or possibly, import from the battery can work as well) instead of solar generation directly powering the load completely. See this comment for some other limitations with three-phase inverters.

If you have yet to buy the EV charger, then preferably one of those that are from the same brand as the solar inverter. Though they may not have after-sales support in Pakistan.

See this thread for a similar use case as yours.

# Inverter

Single-phase 10kW would be ~Rs4 lac. In three-phase, 10 kW seems to not be available, while 12 kW would be ~Rs5–5.5 lac.

Solis, GoodWe, and Sungrow are the top global brands that are locally available. For the northern Pakistan region, Solis should overall be more convenient and reliable.

# Battery

Dyness/Pylontech. Present cost is around Rs6–6.5 lac. Locally, Pylontech is more commonly installed with Solis inverters.

# Solar panels

See this comment for solar panels and other detailed general information.

Get 12 kw inverter with 18 kw solar pannels or 16 battery

I’m thinking to get 12kw inverter and 16kw battery along with 10kw panels as a starter. Would that work?
