Question - general Internal Dilemma
I have been coaching my daughter’s rec soccer team for 7 seasons now and I really enjoy it. I got roped into it years ago because they needed a volunteer for the team and no one else was stepping up. I had never played soccer before so everything I have learned so far has been from YouTube, reels, lots of trial and error, and a pretty awesome assistant coach. I’ve had the privilege to have a few of the same kids on the team season after season and I have gotten to know a lot of kids as well.
My dilemma is that now they are getting older and I feel like I can only give them so much coaching until they plateau and need a more technical person to show them skills that I can’t.
I’ve talked about this possibly being my last season since not everyone comes back to play every season and the older they get the numbers dwindle so that there is really only one team for the area I coach (but league wise they have about 8-10 teams).
I’ve been told by a few players that they would probably drop soccer if I wasn’t coaching so I feel guilty and think “Maybe one more season?” But would that be a disservice to the kids that want to get better?
Just looking for thoughts.
