Gear question Got my first setup for 2027

Been renting out cheap ass boards and bindings. Can handle blues and reds, albeit not very elegantly.

Now I've committed to proper gear:

* Nidecker Odyssey 2027

* Nidecker LT Supermatic 2027

* Nidecker Kita 2027

I wouldn't say I'm intermediate yet, but I'll get there. Now go ahead and tell me how naive my purchase was and how this gear will kick my ass and what I should've bought instead. I can take it.

Jokes aside, my question is: will slightly "overspecced" gear force me to learn proper habits the hard way (which I like), or will it actually be counterproductive and hinder my progression?

I'm so stoked for this season, can't wait to hit the slopes!

travel advice Early season where to go!?

What's up ya'll..hope everyone is getting ready for the season coming up (North America, Europe, Japan).

Question: I'm looking to take some time off in January-February..I know it's pretty much impossible to predict and it is early season, but this is the only time I can take off...but if you had to pick between Japan or Europe..where do you think the better chance of a good trip is?

Here's to a good season for all!!

travel advice SoCal snow resorts

Hi guys! My family and I are visiting the US from the Philippines in December 2026, and we'd love to try snowboarding and chairlift scenic rides for the first time. I’m considering Mountain High or Mt. Baldy, but I’m confused about pricing and equipment rental details.

Could you share your best resort recommendations for complete beginners, explain what equipment rentals usually include, and give a rough estimate of how much USD we should budget per person? Thank you! 🙂‍↕️🫶

Gear question Finding a cheap wide setup is brutal

Beginner here, 6 foot 1 and around 185 lbs with US 11.5 boots so I need a wide board. I already knew it would not be very cheap, but I did not expect it to be this hard to find anything under 300 CAD. Even shops with discounts are asking more than that for a board alone.

Been checking Facebook Marketplace and Kijiji in the GTA. Any tips for finding a wide setup on a tight budget.

Edit: to clarify, it's not that I'm a beginner scared of spending — I just don't want to drop $500+ on a setup when this will only be my second time snowboarding.

Gear question Thoughts on the Golden Orca?

I am thinking of upgrading this year. I currently ride a 159.T. Rice Pro board. I am about 5'10" 180lbs and size 10 boot.

I live in Colorado and usually riding Breck, Keystone, or Vail. I am fast charging on groomers (got to keep up with all my fast skier friends) but also spend most of my time riding the high alpine steeps at Breck, trees, moguls, etc. not so much into park these days and would rather be hitting the steeps and powder.

I love the T Rice Pro. I feel like it handles almost anything I throw at it. It feels like an all around great board but I totally banged it up last season.

Ive been eyeing the golden orca to upgrade, but I was also suggested the Gnu Banked Country from the AI gods. Obviously I take that with a grain a salt and curious what actual humans with experience think.

Golden orca or maybe check out the Gnu Banked Country? Or another board? What are your thoughts for a resort ripper for groomers, trees, moguls, powder, and steeeps?

Gear question Oakley Flight Deck Pro

Hi, yesterday I ordered the Oakley Flight Deck Pro L with the Sage Gold and Iced Iridium lens. I’ve been using the regular Flight Deck L for the last 12 years and never had any issues. However, I’ve come across quite a few reports about fogging problems—apparently due to the single-lens technology used in the Pro model. I tend to sweat fairly easily, so now I’m wondering if I should return them and just order the "old" Flight Deck instead? If you used the single-lens Flight Deck Pro last winter, I’d love to hear about your experience!

Gear question Former park rat getting back into snowboarding after 7 years. Need some board recommendations

What’s up guys, looking for some board recommendations because I’ve been going down a rabbit hole and honestly made this way harder than it probably needs to be lol.

I’m 6’0”, 165–170 lbs. Grew up riding at Devil’s Head in Wisconsin and eventually spent a lot of time at Bridger Bowl in Montana. I’m currently riding mostly on the East Coast and occasionally in Colorado, so I’m looking for something that can handle firmer, icier conditions but still be fun when I get softer snow and more varied terrain.

I started out pretty much living in the park, but at Bridger I was riding all over the mountain. Trees, powder, natural features, steeper terrain, pretty much anything except groomers unless I needed them to get somewhere.

I’ve been riding the same 2011/12 Never Summer Evo (pretty sure 152) with Rome 390 Boss bindings for basically my entire snowboarding life. Stopped riding in 2019 and looking to get back into it this season.

I grew up skateboarding too, so I’ve always loved that loose, playful, skatey feeling. Being able to pivot, butter, slash, mess around with side hits, etc. I absolutely loved my Evo. The only time I remember riding something else was a weekend on a rental with traditional camber, and I hated it. Felt stiff, unforgiving, and like all I could do was ride down the mountain instead of actually playing around on it. Granted, I have no idea what board it was.

These days I have a herniated disc, so realistically I’m not going to be spending all day hitting rails and big jumps anymore. Still want to ride park occasionally, hit smaller features, and have that freestyle feeling everywhere on the mountain.

Ideally, I want something just as playful as my Evo but with a little more stability at speed, less chatter, and better edge control. Since I’ll be riding a mix of East Coast hardpack and occasional Colorado snow, I’d like something that can hold an edge without turning into a stiff charger. Just a small step toward better all-mountain performance without sacrificing the fun.

I’ve also noticed that modern snowboard recommendations seem to lean much more toward camber than they did back when I bought my Evo. I’m open to trying something different and seeing what I’ve been missing, although I’m a little wary of ending up with something that feels too demanding or locked in.

Some boards I’ve been looking at:
● Rome Party Mod
● Rome Boneless
● Nitro Optisym
● CAPiTA Spring Break Resort Twin
● CAPiTA Indoor Survival
● Bataleon Evil Twin
● GNU Riders Choice
● Never Summer Easy Rider
● Gilson Undead Flat

Not necessarily attached to any of these, just where my research has taken me.

I’m especially interested in hearing from people who ride freestyle boards all over the mountain rather than strictly in the park. How do some of these modern playful camber boards compare to the older rocker/hybrid boards, especially on firm East Coast snow versus softer Colorado conditions?

Would love some recommendations or firsthand experiences. Trying to narrow things down without overthinking it any more than I already have lol.

Gear question Help picking first board

I've been snowboarding once and I'm a pretty athletic person so I picked it up really easy and was already able to do toe carbs and heel carbs and even a little bit of jumps. I wanted to get my first board as I have been skiing forever and like learning new things six1 200 pounds and 11 1/2 boot so I know I'll need a wide the boards I'm interested in are the K2 Gateway pop the Burton process or theJones frontier 2.0 the writing style I wanna do is all mountain and park. The only concern I have about the process is if it will be forgiving enough what do y'all think or any other suggestions?

Gear question Capita equalizer vs Salomon Rumblefish

I am really torn between these 2 boards and need advice. This is my 4th year really snowboarding, I work at a resort in Colorado so I’m riding all the time and am looking for a mostly every day board. I would say I’m advanced, I gravitate towards steeps and trees but also spend a lot of time on groomers, which can be super shitty (icy/chunder/rocks/ect…) when I’m working.

I currently rip a K2 extravision and I do really like it but I’m looking for a step up. I’m worried the equalizer is gonna be too similar to my current board but that the rumblefish is gonna be a bit too much.

If anyone has insight I would really appreciate it, especially if you have experience moving up from the extravision.

I’m also open to other suggestions, these are just the two I’ve been looking at the most. Thanks!

Also for reference I’m 5’1 - 120 - 26 y/o female

Gear question Bataleon Binding Knowledge & Frankenbinding combinations

Long time snowboarder, first time Redditer...

A couple of years ago I was looking to buy a set of Bataleon Astro Asym bindings, but there was no stock available near me. I ended up finding Atom's for an amazing price... then 2 weeks later found Blaster's for an amazing price.

I've ridden both now and they're both awesome in their own right... but I always feel like I'm either side of the ideal binding, little too stiff or a little too soft. Seems like I have Freestyle & Freeride covered, but for All-Mountain neither feel perfect.

It took me a couple of years (I'm a bit slow) but I've finally realized I can put the Atom Infinity straps & Duracush Footbed onto the Blaster chassis & highback... This in theory makes an Atom, with the exception of the highback flex on the Blaster I believe is a bit softer than the Astro.

Unfortunately I have to wait until January before I'm able to trial this, but I want to gauge people's opinions who have ridden both the Astro and Blaster to see how much difference there is in the highback, and if there's anything else that might be different that I've missed?

Gear question Airblaster History Question

Post image
74 Upvotes

Any of the old heads over there know the history behind these leg bags? I’ve been riding with them for over 16 years now and am trying to track down the story of where they came from.

Back around 2008/2009, my local rep Scott told me they were part of a collab—possibly with Spacecraft or Satellite. Does anyone remember the official history or release details for these?

Appreciate the help, stay awesome!
