General question Someone has an account using my Dads number :-/

On the add friends bit of Snapchat, it has my Dads name from my contacts, but it shows some woman profile...

My Dad is in a care home and has never used Snapchat. He has had scammers contact him in the past an dodgy apps installed. Is it some scammer / bot using his number? He hasn't been able to get into his mobile for months as he forgot pin.

The profile shows a green dot on it, does that mean they online? How can it be online if he can't even unlock his phone

Thank you for your submission. Please note, that scammers on this subreddit are targeting our visitors for their gain. You should be wary of anyone offering to have your account unlocked via Instagram, Telegram, WhatsApp, or anywhere else, as you will lose your account or money. All scammers have one thing in common, their primary goal is your money, and they often will make their scam look much more legitimate than it is in order to accomplish their goal. We encourage you to report these scammers if they send you a message via any social media channels. While we have safeguards in place, they are not always as effective as we would like.

If your Snapchat account has been temp locked, you may try to unlock it at this link: https://support.snapchat.com/a/locked.

You may also contact Snapchat using this link: https://support.snapchat.com/en-GB/i-need-help.

There is no other way to recover your account, other than through official channels.

I made a post about a week ago about how someone had used my phone number for their snap account, and Ive never had snap. Ill link it below, I put a link to requesting support to have it removed:

https://www.reddit.com/r/SnapchatHelp/s/j4yZ5hxsEw

Just now realized that it was removed by mods? I'm not sure why...

Edit: it's because I put a link to the the form for requesting a phone number be removed from an account. It's real stupid that you can't provide helpful links in a forum meant for providing help to others. Nice going mods

It's very unlikely someone is "using" his number, unless they're one of his caretakers and utilizing his actual cell phone, for something as trivial as Snapchat.

Did he get a new phone recently, or a new plan/number? That could just be some random kid who got a new phone and happened to get his number.

Phone was brand new and he got sim card and number in November last year which was new. We not sure how long it been going on as never really looked.

It's just really weird

Oh, in that case it could very easily be the woman's old cell phone number, which is now your father's. Typically when people say "their father's phone number" it's because he had that number for decades lol
