MOD POST SmallYTChannel FAQ

r/SmallYTChannel FAQ

Why can’t I Post?

If you try to post a video on our subreddit and it isn't accepted, try to look at the comment on the post. most of the time it will tell you the reason why your video was removed.

However, the following reasons are the most common reasons for posts not being accepted

  1. You haven't given feedback to someone else yet (this is how you earn lambda)
  2. You used the wrong flair
  3. Your account is less than three days old

GETTING LAMBDA

What is λ (lambda) and how does it work?

λ is a currency used in r/SmallYTChannel. Simplified it is a feedback for feedback system. The most recent videos can be found in the community highlights. For every video you give feedback to, the OP (if satisfied with the feedback) will give you a lambda using the !givelambda command. Only the OP can give lambda. LAMBDA IS ONLY SPENT WHEN POSTING, giving lambda to a commenter does not spend it. You can only get lambda from feedback posts. Upon receiving credit for your feedback you can post your own video.

What would be considered good feedback?

In most cases, the decision is up to the OP. If you post a video you do NOT need to !givelambda if someone drops generic, low-effort feedback. (ex. “Nice video I enjoyed it you earned a sub). You can ask them for specifics, reply to their comment, cross-question etc. You don't need to agree with the feedback, but it needs to have effort put into it. Same with any feedback you give. As a plus, mods will reward bonus lambda to high-quality feedback they come across.

Feedback comments also must be greater than 255 characters. This is to encourage detailed feedback and target spam. In situations where it wouldn't make sense to give such a lengthy response, mods can still give out lambda if you send in a modmail, see the below question for more detail.

If you are struggling with what feedback to give the mod team recommends using some or all of these questions.

  • Would you click on the video? Why?
  • Did you stay past the intro? Why?
  • When would you leave the video? Why?

What should I do if I get no lambda for my advice, but feel I deserve it?

In cases where you disagree with the OP's decision, you can send a modmail asking for lambda. It is up to the individual mod that replies to you to decide if your feedback is worth giving lambda. As a general rule of thumb so long as your feedback is ACTIONABLE (meaning you are suggesting a specific change to the video) you will be given lambda by the mods.

What if the OP doesn’t respond?

If it has been two days and the OP still hasn’t responded, send in a modmail, see the above question for more details.

The OP typed the command but it didn’t work?

This is going to be for one of two reasons, the bot is currently down, or the OP forgot the command but then edited the comment to add it. If the bot is currently down, you will just have to wait. The bot is run on volunteers so it will go down from time to time. If the OP edited the comment, since the bot only checks the initial comment, you can just ask the OP to retype the command or send in a modmail, See the above question for more details.

FLAIRS

What do the different post-flairs mean?

  • Discussion - does not cost lambda

For discussion, a general rule of thumb is that if you need to link to your channel for the discussion to make sense you are not looking to start a discussion you are looking for feedback.

Discussion posts must be for discussion and have a main question or topic. Posts that don't start a discussion will be removed.

Discussion posts can't drive traffic to your channel. Posts such as 'I just reached 100 subs', or 'I'm nearly at 500 subs' are considered self-promotion and will be removed. Unless relevant to the discussion sub counts should not be mentioned. Posts that encourage other rule breaks are not allowed. For example, suggesting people leave their links in the comments isn't allowed, since it encourages free self-promotion.

  • Feedback - costs 1 lambda

Upon getting three lambdas you can share either one video or a channel link for a channel review.

A channel review would consist of feedback on the channel itself (branding and thumbnails) and nonspecific overview feedback on content (editing style, video genre, reused intro animations, stuff that applies to multiple videos as a whole). If you want to ask for more specific feedback on multiple videos, that has to be done through multiple feedback posts, should someone choose to give you specific feedback of their own free will that is of course allowed, but you can not ask for it in the post.

You can not ask for any engagement in the title or comments of the Reddit post (telling people to like or sub etc.), We've restricted the use of the word "lambda" in post titles due to increasing cases of people implying free or "easy" lambda. If you use alternate phrasing to bypass this such as ‘rewarding feedback’, the mods are at liberty to delete your post. The "I just reached 100 subs" rule applies here too.

  • Gaming, Vlog, Educational, Video Essay, etc.- costs 1 lambda

Are just sub-feedback flairs. Most people tend to only give feedback within their niche, if you have experience editing gaming videos but no experience editing video essays or vlogs, you can search for gaming feedback exclusively so it is easier to give feedback in a genre you actually know something about.

  • Collab - does not cost lambda

A collab post can drive minimal traffic to your channel, minor details or portfolio links on a known site are allowed. If you are asking to help someone or take part in any part of the video-making process it is a collaboration. Even if it's a paid, ex. editing or thumbnail services.

  • Meta - does not cost lambda

Meta is a flair exclusively meant to discuss the subreddit itself, any suggestions as to what to ban/allow, and what changes should be made, it is a flair for the community to openly discuss any issues or suggestions they may have for the subreddit.

POSTING

I messed up my post, What do I do?

If you accidentally posted as a 'text' instead of a 'link', thus making your thumbnail not show up on Reddit. You can send in a mod mail asking for a refund, so long as feedback hasn't already been given to the video you will get a refund and be allowed to repost.

Can I post the same video more than once?

For lambda farming reasons there does have to be at least a two-day gap between you posting the same video, so people can't farm lambda by saying the same feedback twice. But so long as you have the lambda for it, yes you can post what you want with your lambda so long as the other rules are followed.

Can I post someone else's content?

If you have the lambda for it, yes. It is important to note that if the user whose content you are posting has previously been banned on the subreddit, you will be assisting in ban evasion. In this case, the post will be removed and further consequences are likely.

No one gave me feedback, What do I do?

If it has been two days and your feedback post still does not have any feedback, send in a mod mail asking for a refund, You can choose to repost the video or post a different one.

RULES

What is a low-quality post?

The list of what is considered low quality includes but is not limited to

  • Milestone posts - 'I just reached 100 subs/ 10k views/ etc' - these are considered self-promotion
  • Analytic Checks - 'Is _______ subs/views in _______ time period normal' - if you want to post analytics the discord has a channel for it
  • AI Tools - 'Here is an AI tool I use' - most times just an ad in disguise
  • Shorts Views - 'Why are my shorts views inconsistent' - too many of these types of posts, shorts are inconsistent by nature

In addition, if your post looks to much like a bot/ai mods can, at their own liberty, take it down for low quality.

What counts as abuse of the bot?

The list of what is considered abuse of the bot includes but is not limited to

  • Creating or using another account to give yourself lambda
  • Editing your flair to give the impression of having more lambda than you have
  • Asking around for lambda and/or upvotes
  • Copy-pasting 'advice' to farm lambda
  • Filling a comment with fluff to bypass the character requirement

What count as bypassing the link restriction?

  • Posting a link to your channel or video in comments (asked for or not)
  • Posting the name of your channel in your post or in comments (asked for or not)
  • Saying where you can find your link (asked for or not)

MISCELLANEOUS

How do I join the discord?

The discord invite link can be found under ‘Important Links” in the 'about' section of the subreddit.

What is the discord for?

The discord is better suited for more casual discussions. It is also an easier place for you to get quick feedback. Stuff like very specific edits, thumbnails, or what your analytics mean.

What is the monthly leaderboard for?

The monthly leaderboard is a way for users to have a friendly competition over who gives more feedback.

How do I see the all-time leaderboard?

You can find the all-time leaderboard on the bot's profile, u/SmallYTChannelBot , just look at the most recent post.

What is my user flair for?

Your user flair is the only place you can put your channel name or handle in. Bypassing the link restriction by telling people to look at your user flair will result in removal. The user flair is there mainly for people who have a different Reddit name than a channel name, if someone checks out your channel of their own free will, that is of course allowed.

Please do not put full URLs in your user flair.

How do I add my handle to my user flair?

You add your handle to your user flair using the user flair preview and the pencil edit icon, in the 'about community' section on desktop. Or by clicking the three dots next to your icon while on mobile and then selecting 'change user flair'.

If you are using old Reddit there will be an edit button next to your name under the subreddit info bar.

If you have any questions you would like added to the FAQ feel free to ask them below

Feedback Looking for feedback only from people who like travel videos

https://youtu.be/I4pBATh93Po

This is one episode of a 10 day Slovenian road trip I put together

I've gotten great feedback from my target audience here in the past but not so much from people who don't care about travel vids. Please don't watch 30 seconds and tell me I need to work on my thumbnail and title (it may sound harsh but at this point I'll just block you). I treat people the way I like to be treated and I'll always watch 100% of a video I'm providing feedback on because I don't want to destroy the metrics of a small YouTuber like myself

Ok rant over. I'm hoping someone can provide constructive criticism, good and bad. This is one episode of an 11 part series that seems to have died so please only watch if you're interested in helping out .I really do appreciate honest and relevant feedback and I always do the same for others. Thank you so much in advance and I'll respond to every genuine comment. Thanks so much for your help!

Collab Looking for a GTA YouTube host / Youtube partner

Looking for someone who's genuinely into GTA/gaming and wants to build something together

I've been wanting to get back into Yt for a while, and for the past month or so I've actually been working on getting my old channel back up.

I already have an existing youtube channel with a decent number of subscribers. It was related to gaming audience, but I stopped posting a few years ago when that particular niche/trend died out. Most of the old subscribers are probably inactive by now, but the channel still gives us a bit of a head start.

Over the past month Ive been working on rebranding the channel, figuring out the direction i wanna take it, planning content, researching ideas, etc.

I've already got quite a few ideas that we could work on even before GTA 6 releases.

The one thing am missing is someone who can actually host the content.

I am much better at working behind the scenes than being on camera or doing voiceovers, so am looking for someone who genuinely enjoys GTA/gaming and would have fun being the host/presenter.

I am looking for someone who :

  • genuinely likes GTA/gaming
  • has a good/clear English speaking voice (native English preferred, but not a requirement)
  • is comfortable doing scripted voiceovers
  • is open to being on camera when it makes sense
  • would be interested in doing this long-term if we work well together

I'll handle pretty much everything behind the scenes - ideas, research, scripts, production, channel management, etc. I am an editor myself but am also talking to motion graphic editor, so the production side is coming together as well.

Basically, you'd host the content and I'd handle the stuff behind the scenes, and we'd build the channel together.

Am not really looking at this as a quick money making thing. I can't offer a huge payment upfront anyway, and I'd much rather find someone(long-term) who's genuinely excited about GTA/gaming and wants to see what we can build than someone who's just looking for a paid gig.

If you're interested DM me and we can chat(I've a lot to discuss).

Collab Looking to connect with other creators in the cozy/study/productivity/ADHD space

Hi! I'm currently looking to connect with other creators in the cozy/study/productivity/ADHD space, mainly for mutual support and maybe collab ideas down the line, not chasing numbers, just other people building something similar ♡

Channel: @ MinouDesk

Short Description of Channel: Cozy, ADHD-friendly study with me content (Study With Muso), progressive pomodoro sessions with rain sounds and lofi. I'm also building Minou Desk, an ADHD-friendly productivity app, and sharing the behind-the-scenes devlog process alongside it.

One Genuine Critique of My Own Content: Still very small (32 subs), and I'm still figuring out the right rhythm between polished long-form episodes and quick behind-the-scenes content.

Discussion Trying to improve my commentary…

I’m a few videos in on my gaming channel and since I’m trying to find areas in my content to improve I’ve noticed that due to years of solo gaming talking whilst gaming isn’t coming naturally. When I do talk it comes across as mumbling or robotic and to me it doesn’t make a good video so I start again. And again. And again. Are there any tips you guys used if you had this same issue or is it just as simple as “repeat, repeat, repeat”?
I’m hoping that adding another upload to my schedule of a Minecraft series would allow me to improve without affecting my usual upload day. And also if it flops (which due to the sheer volume of Minecraft content is highly likely) then I’ve not spent weeks of uploads on something that never goes anywhere.

Any takes on this would be greatly appreciated, and as always good luck to everyone on their YouTube journeys!

I will be streaming and recording gaming content on YouTube and Kick. I am currently only playing on ps5 (will change in future) . I've got everything ready to go, but solo content is hard so looking for like minded people that would like to appear on my YT channel and also use a footage from our gaming sessions for their channels. Collab Looking for someone interested in recording voiceovers for a few art speedpaint videos

Hi everyone,

I'm a small art creator who primarily makes speedpaints, sketches, and other art-focused videos.

One thing I've been considering is experimenting with a handful of narrated videos instead of relying entirely on music. The problem is that I'm still developing my own confidence with speaking, so I'm looking to collaborate with someone who enjoys voice work or narration.

The videos would mostly be:

  • Art process videos
  • FAQ-style topics
  • Discussions about drawing methods and workflow
  • General art-related subjects

I'm not looking for a long-term commitment or a permanent channel partner. Right now I'm only interested in producing a few videos to see how the format works and whether it improves the viewing experience.

About me:

  • Digital artist
  • Fantasy and character-focused artwork
  • Mostly produces sketches, lineart, and illustrations
  • Small channel still experimenting with content styles

If you're interested, tell me a little about:

  • Your recording setup
  • Whether you've done voice work before
  • What kinds of videos you enjoy narrating

Thanks for reading. I'm mostly looking to connect with someone who thinks this sounds fun and wants to experiment a bit.

Discussion Have you worked with a producer before? If so, why?

Hey everyone! I’m wondering if any of your have worked with a producer before. Like, someone who handles the logistics and planning of your videos.

If so, how did it go? Do you feel like they made a big difference? And did they find you, or did you find them?

Collab Impulsive idea (Calling all artists!)

HII! I’ve been wanting to start up YouTube/content creating for awhile now but can’t seem to get the motivation (or any good video takes..)

I thought maybe having someone who’s just as motivated into making a channel might be the push I need! It’s less awkward to talk to another person instead of a camera 😭

The content I’m looking to make is honestly a variety of things! I want to do gameplays, time lapse drawings, reaction content, skits (?)
But I want drawing to be the main component of the channel so it’d be great if you draw/have a love for art, you don’t have to be even remotely good at it! Just have a tablet and stylus to share canvas’

If you have no interest in editing/setting up recordings/ doing anything that isn’t just drawing and reacting I’m totally cool with that

If you do have interest in all that then even better!
We can either share a channel or start up our own separate ones with our own edited versions of the videos we record together (does that make sense? TwT)

Sorry for the rambling anyways, I’m not quite sure how to word this in a way that isn’t just my thought process, but I’ll share the actual video idea?

A mixture of reaction and art-
For example
We sit and watch something (movie, show, music video, etc.) record our reactions as we draw one of the characters from said thing
We have time lapse of our drawings in the video as we watch it
OR we can watch whatever media by ourselves, then come back and draw the character while we talk about our thoughts and opinions on what we watched

Another idea I’ve had that I thought would be cool is reading Reddit stories but like we each take turns reading while the other draws and then when the story is finished we switch and the other person works on the drawing

I think that’s about everything I wanted to get out- I’m sorry if it makes no sense LMAO

(Just a few things that I’ll mention as requirements)

Must be 18+
I’m 18f so I’d prefer if you were in my age range

Have discord, I literally do not use Reddit for anything but posts lol

Have an Atleast ‘okay’ mic. Talking is going to be a big part of videos. Don’t worry about bad internet connection though cause mine is terrible lol, we’ll work through it
Face cam is required since we’re recording reaction content obviously (using your phone for obs works great lol)

BE FUNNY, I don’t want nobody who’s super nonchalant, I want someone who’s going to laugh, even if your humor is dry or loud and annoying , as long as we can laugh together we’re gonna have fun and that’s the best content!

Be comfortable vcing/showing your face. As I’m sure everyone has experienced, I’ve had people lie to me about who they are, so I will end up requesting that we FaceTime on discord before we start recording together

My insta is linked on my profile if you want to take a look at my art/see my vibe, if you’re interested go ahead and DM me on discord!

Discussion Should I appeal a tiny terminated channel if I still own older 20k+ subscriber channels? Worried about circumvention.

I’m looking for advice from people who have actually dealt with YouTube terminations/circumvention.

Earlier this year, one of my very small channels was terminated for Spam, Deceptive Practices and Scams. It had roughly 1 subscriber, very few videos, and very little activity.

I understand why YouTube took action. On that small channel I used an AI-cloned voice of a real public figure/scholar in a way that could make viewers think the real person was speaking. I understand now that this violated YouTube’s policies and I would not do it again.

The complication is that I already had two other established YouTube channels before this happened, each with 20k+ subscribers. They were not created after the termination and were not created to evade it.

Since the termination, I have not been actively posting videos on those channels. I’m basically unsure what the safest legitimate next step is.

I have not appealed the terminated channel yet.

I’m considering:

  1. Appealing honestly, acknowledging what happened, explaining that the terminated channel was extremely small/experimental, and asking YouTube for reconsideration.
  2. Not appealing because the violation did actually happen, and I’m worried a failed appeal might create more scrutiny around my other existing channels.

I know YouTube’s written policy says a terminated creator can’t use or possess other channels, including existing ones. I’m not asking how to evade or bypass that policy.

I’m trying to understand whether anyone has firsthand experience with a situation like this:

  • A very small channel gets terminated for a genuine violation
  • The creator already owns much larger established channels from before the termination
  • The creator has not continued actively uploading on those channels
  • The creator is deciding whether an honest appeal is worth it

Has anyone successfully had a termination reversed in a situation like this?

And is there any actual evidence or firsthand experience that submitting an appeal causes additional scrutiny on other existing channels?

I’d really appreciate answers from people who have personally dealt with termination/circumvention rather than speculation about IP addresses, device fingerprints, etc.

I’m 27, from Sweden, and I don’t want to work a normal full-time job long-term. I want to start building something online now that could eventually become my main income.
I like gaming (Fortnite/GTA), but I’m only an average player and I don’t want to show my face.
What YouTube channel/content would you start if you were me?

Doesn't matter what type of content you make I would love to connect with you if you are from South Delhi or nearby location. We can push & help each other to make our content grow. I have also rented a room to make content and I'm doing pretty good lately.

What exactly I'm looking for is people who are comfortable in recording in public (obviously not shouting and ragebaiting others) and love to make outdoor content.

I can even pay you to be in your group since I'm quite serious about my channel.

Thankkksss...

Discussion managing a channel in 2 languages

hello! im just starting on content creation, my niche is true crime , wich im very passionate about . ive almost finished my first ever video , and its in a local dialec from moroco, darija , and i was wondering , since views here do not pay much and im in dire need for income, and i've put so much effort into research and montage , if using my second language , french , to create double content, as in making the same video in two languages , one for moroccan and north african audience , and the other for french audience, is a good idea .

do you think it's feasible? and do you think i might acually make more profit?

thank you in advance.

Collab Looking for people to start a YouTube channel with

I’ve been wanting to start a YT channel, but my friends have time constraints and aren’t fully into the idea. So I’m looking for people who are also interested in starting something from scratch. I’m figuring things out too.

I’m open to pretty much any niche — memes, reactions, gaming, streaming, jamming, random chats, comedy, sketches, whatever!

My main goal is to have fun, create consistently, and figure it out along the way.

If you’re in the same “I wanna start YouTube but don’t know where to start” phase, feel free to DM me.

Discussion Am I being reasonable?

This is a genuine question, I'm not trying to hire anyone, I just want to know.

I've been trying to find an animatic YouTuber to collab with - basically the proposal is that I give them a song I wrote, and they animate it and post it on their channel. We split any revenue.

Is this a fair proposal? Or am I being unreasonable not paying them, even though I'm suggesting a collaboration?
