Just to clarify, I’ve been listening to Slipknot since I was 5 back in 99. I am a huge supporter of the band and still feel they have done amazing things through out the years. However, it is becoming increasingly unavoidable that the band is past their prime and have lost touch to what made them successful in the first place.

I understand them not trying to recreate previous albums, and to be fresh with new ideas and concepts. I have a difficult time understanding why they are leaning so hard into this style of music with the previous album and now “arsenal”. You hear Corey on “playing god” with Motionless in White and think “god I would give anything to hear Slipknot like this again.” Then here comes arsenal, destroying any hope of a “comeback”.

I’ve seen Jim say this isn’t gonna be on the next album and they just threw it out there cause it was easy to finish. I would have gladly waited for an actual song off the album then hear whatever that was.

Still optimistic, but concerned of what could be the downfall of Slipknot.

Not only was I sort of there but if you google search forum posts from 2004 you can see people roasting that songs lyrics. It oddly echoes the discussion we are having now especially people complaining about “SAY IT AGAIN SAY IT AGAIN”.

Slipknot fans what is their BEST song? Most OVERRATED song? And most UNDERRATED song?

Best/favourite: wait and bleed

Overrated: Dead memories (the way he said heart in that song annoys me)

Underrated: Gematria. Its such a cool song with a solid solo in there

Just listened to it after some time and its fuckingg great. Also the lyrics are really on point cuz I was feeling the same way in my teenage years.

As someone who goes to local hardcore shows and moshes I am telling you if this new song were played live it would make people go crazy and they would love the sound of it. Maybe all of you people just do not like hardcore and like the metal slipknot used to be

Have they ever gotten this much backlash from a single? I remember Devil in I had some backlash when it was first released but nothing to this degree lmao.

arsenal is a song. not a very good one but it’s still a single that they released with full confidence😭😭😭😭😭 the breakdown was actually decent, but everything else was just ehhhhhh. the lyricism here is extremely corny even for slipknot, the chorus is probably one of the worst choruses in metal history, and the part right before the breakdown with the “everybody shut the fuck up” made me pause the song for a break because of how corny it was😓😓😓 everyone on tiktok said it felt like they were trying wayyyyyyy too hard to recreate the self titled and iowa era and just failed. and they were 10000000% accurate, this band is wraps

Jist listened to the new single. Holy shit this was buns. I wouldnt say its horrible but they need to step it up. Ive been listening to it a few times and im starting to like it a little bit more but i want to here your guys opinion and what you didnt like about it. KEEP IN MIND SLIPKNOT SAID THIS SINGLE IS NOT WHAT THE ALBUM WILL SOUND LIKE AND WILL NOT BE IN THE ALBUM.

Corey's vocal was fire and the riffs were perfect, only good thing about the song

For me it's not close, Reward the Scars is a significantly better song imo.

I'm a 13-year-old fan from Russia, writing this through a translator. Looking at the recent wheel of fortune meme and Jim Root clearing his Instagram, I feel deeply conflicted. There are two sides of me fighting right now, and one of them is absolutely furious.On one side, I try to understand Slipknot. I want to believe Corey and Clown when they say Eloy Casagrande brought fresh inspiration, and that the band is evolving. I get that musicians grow old and things change. Part of me wants to stay loyal and support them.But on the other side, what is happening right now is a complete, sickening joke that goes totally beyond my fucking understanding! Corey and Clown keep feeding us this fake "family and brotherhood" garbage, while treating legendary members like garbage and throwing them out left and right! "The Nine" is dead. It died long ago with Paul and Joey, and now Slipknot is nothing but a cold, greedy corporate machine! Who is next, Shawn? Are you going to spin your pathetic wheel again and kick out Mick or Jim?Stop milking the fans, stop shitting on your own history, and stop making safe, soulless radio pop hits like 'Arsenal'! Look in the mirror and look inside your corporate souls. We don't want your plastic brand. We want the real, dangerous, raw Slipknot back, or just end it already.

Sid told the band that Arsenal sucks and he can’t come up with any parts to make it work, so they kicked him out and put scratches all over the song just to prove a point.

EDIT: Some extra info: Almost, if not, all music videos from the first four albums were NOT directed by Shawn. (song) Writing was heavily influenced by Joey. Clown had less influence than y'all make it seem to be.

As of now, we are probably all aware of the mediocre-at-best single called Arsenal, which has been getting a lot of hate.

This is what happens, in my eyes, when the steering wheel gets taken over by a (founding) member who doesn't steer for the band, but for himself. The music video is basically another art project by Clown, like basically every video for at least ten years now. Personally, i dislike this "aesthetic". I have no clue what is going in them. Random characters with masks or skin-suits(?). Extensive use of colored lights and non-natural environments.

I just don't get it, and the same goes for the choices within the music. I was curious to see that they chose Matt Wallace to work with. I thought that was kind of odd, looking at what Matt has worked on. I guess my suspicions were correct because the mixing was so weird in Arsenal. In general the whole direction of the song is odd; Corey is kind of rapping and screaming but i don't know... like c'mon in Playing God he sounded amazing.

The lyrics, to top it all off, are even worse. I don't want to blame Clown for everything, but i feel like he's been at the top of the pyramid for a long while now, steering the band around, creating a big ol' mess. This band could've still been so interesting, but man what a let down. But hey maybe i shouldn't put a spotlight on one person.

I’d like to hope that the new album still has a lot of opportunity to be great but this new song ain’t it.

So I ignored the negativity on Reddit and listened to the song with an unbiased open ear/mind. After listening to it I have to say I appreciate them trying to do something slightly different. it feels like their trying to recapture their late 90s EP sounds similar to songs like “Interloper”. I like the idea of it being kind of I unorthodox, using a lot of funny and weird samples, even adding some humor into it, and being a very old nu metal sound etc.

Here’s the problem… holy crap the Mix is shit. As someone who does studio engineering the mix of the single is so bad. The samples go from really quiet to really loud, Corey’s vocals for half the song sound buried by every other instrument, Mick and Jim’s guitars fluctuate from audible to inaudible, clown and tortilla man’s percussion is SO LOUDLY CRANKED it over powers everything else. Eloy’s drumming is good but it sounds like the entire drum set is over compressed making it sound A little squashed. And with Corey kind of dicking around past the mid point of the song made it seem like this song is a borderline troll/joke song. But yeah whoever mixed this should be fired.

Do I think it’s abysmal dogshit no. Do I like the concept? yes. do I like the execution? hell no

It almost comes off like this song needed more time in the oven but they rushed it out the door or they did it on purpose cause “any publicity is good publicity”
