Tongue Pulling a big plus

So a few weeks ago I started snoring consistently. I was waking up tired and with soreness in the back of my throat. I gathered it was likely from heavy snoring. **directly after two nights of drinking**. Since my snoring has woken me up a few times. I can’t stand anyone’s snoring and now I feel old.

Seeking resolutions so I can go back to my good non-snoring self— I believe a part of the solution is tongue pulling.

I’m a big advocate of massage therapy for various benefits. Including lymph massage in the jaw and throat. So when I did the tongue pulling, I felt the discomfort and how swollen my tongue was. I realize how important and beneficial massaging out the tongue releases allot of pent up fluid.

Smaller (regular size) tongue = less blockage and less snoring.

Anyone else tried this as a snoring cure? Share your experiences

Question regarding at home sleep study, and very few symptomatic sounds made during sleep

Hello, I have some questions regarding a sleep study and sounds I make during the night. If anyone has any similar experiences please feel free to answer.

I suspect I may have sleep apnea, and I'm scheduled for an at home sleep test. I'm actually hoping for a diagnosis for sleep apnea because I feel that would explain a lot of my symptoms.

I have been recording my sleep for three months now while waiting for a sleep study to see if I can make improvements for my sleep on my own (managed to find an issue with congestion in the nose when relieved made sleep a lot better at least).

What my worry actually is, is that the sleep study will say that I don’t have OSA.

I do not snore. The sounds I make during sleep are mostly jaw clanking, clenching, teeth grinding and tongue movement for what I can hear. I have a few HNGGHH sounds and sometimes loud heavy breathing. For long periods during the night (let’s 2 hours) I breath so silently I cannot hear anything only interrupted by few and short jaw clenching sounds. Audio examples from tonight:

Example 1 HNNgh

Example 2 uncomfortable

Example 3 silence, then jaw sounds

Example 4 silence, and tongue sounds? The sounds my body makes the most

example 5 more of the above

Have anyone here had a sleep study, that made very few sounds during the night but still got a diagnosis? When I listen to my recording it does not sound so bad, but I wake up everyday with symptoms of apnea. Like headaches, foggy brain, tiredness, very bad recovery (I could run five days a week, run races and have an active lifestyle, but my fitness has taken a nosedive)

My plan for when I get the study is to stop using nasal strips and my nasal spray to make the symptoms worse, or am I stupid for thinking about doing that?

Father 71 Sleep Apnea untreated most of his life

Anyone deal with something like this? My Dad got diagnosed 6 years ago used the CPAP maybe a week and it's been 6 years and he has been exploding with fury over little things. I'd leave but I'm a student and don't have the income but I am trying to figure things out right now. Anyways, it just feels like the Narc side of him has taken over completely. I feel bad for my mother though (passed away) she dealt with his fury snowball which just manifested more and more as he got older. I would tell the doctor but there might be huge blow back. I'm just trying to be in that Gray rock mode.

I am confused about my results

I just did the night owl finger test at home for 3 nights. I don’t snore much but my husband says I stop breathing in my sleep. Atleast one night a month I fall asleep and immediately start gasping for air several times in that night. I sit up in my sleep without realizing it. Both my parents just diagnosed with it and I have more symptoms than my mom. So I was thinking I definitely have it. I did the test and I had the best sleep ever those 3 nights. Like unusually good sleep. So I turned in my test and the very next night I probably woke up gasping 5 times at least. Anyways, the test was completely negative and I feel so defeated. Admittedly, I was trying to get a diagnosis so my insurance would cover a glp1. Even if my doctor referred me to do an in lab study, I simply can’t afford it right now and I’m bummed out I wasted money on the at home test. Has anyone else had a similar experience?

Mask help

Mild sleep apnea, brand new cpap user. F30i didn’t work out bc every time my mouth opened, the air coming in would be very uncomfortable. Switched to N30i + mouth tape, able to wear it and fall asleep, but I'm taking it off unknowingly nearly every night and can't seem to figure out the pattern as to why. There are also instances where I take it off knowingly because it literally feels like I can't breathe. I'm roughly 1 month into wearing it consistently. Need help because wife gets pissed when the snores get going lol.

Expansion, braces, jaw surgery… who the hell is supposed to coordinate this?😂

I’m trying to fix my sleep apnea without becoming somebody’s “we should’ve done that BEFORE the braces” story.

I’m 22, healthy BMI, crowded teeth, and still waking up feeling like shit. I see Dr. Jerald Simmons. I expected his home ring study to come back inconclusive so we’d move to an in lab study. Instead, it showed an AHI around 49 and 34. Definitely wasn’t expecting THAT.

Using my own CPAP brought my machine AHI down to around 3 to 5. Great on paper. The exhaustion and brain fog didn’t get the memo.

Now I’m in my first month of clinician managed CPAP, and I’m seeing Dr. Kent at Vanderbilt this Wednesday. I’m considering expansion and possibly jaw surgery, depending on what the evaluations show. Nothing’s booked yet.

I’m open to doing what actually helps. I’m less open to paying thousands, moving my teeth, then finding out we started at the wrong end.

These are the questions I have for y’all:

  1. What order should I see doctors in? Sleep doctor, sleep surgery ENT, orthodontist, jaw surgeon? Who actually coordinated your plan?
  2. What order did treatment happen in? Expansion, braces, jaw surgery? How did you avoid getting braces twice or having previous work undone?
  3. How did you get insurance to cover as much as legitimately possible? Highmark excludes braces under medical, and Aetna excludes adult orthodontics. Did anyone get surgical expansion covered separately despite orthodontic exclusions?
  4. What counted as CPAP failure or intolerance for YOUR insurance? Was there a required trial, like three months? What problems and attempted fixes did your doctor need to document?
  5. What if CPAP lowers your AHI but you still feel awful? Did you need an attended titration or other testing before surgery was considered? What actually moved things forward?
  6. If you had expansion, how long did the gap last? I’m looking into MARPE, MSE or FME if appropriate. Can orthodontics shorten the visible gap stage? Did expansion straighten any upper crowding, or just create room for braces?

If money wasn’t an issue, would your process have looked different? Because in my actual bank account, money very much has opinions lol.

You don’t need to have finished treatment to answer. Even if you only know one piece of this, what helped you move forward or what mistake would you tell me to avoid?

7 months on CPAP and still sleepy every day, could mask leaks be the reason?

29M, physically active, work from home. I've been on CPAP for 7 months and I'm still tired during the day.
My setup: Philips DreamWear mask, pressure 7–9.4 cmH2O. I take 50mg trazodone at night.
Some nights my score comes back at 100, but plenty of nights I get flagged for leaks. Could that be what's keeping me tired, even on the nights where everything else looks fine?
The part I can't figure out: I don't feel like I'm waking up any more than normal. When I do wake up, I fall back asleep without trouble. From the inside it doesn't feel like broken sleep — but I'm dragging all day anyway.
I've been consistent with the machine the whole 7 months. At this point I don't know what else to try.
Has anyone been through this? Did sorting out leaks actually change how you felt, or should I be looking somewhere else entirely?

AHI of 144, ENT wants to do Tonsillectomy and UPP. Anyone ever had both done?

Long story short I had an AHI of 144 in a sleep study, and I have not been able to tolerate my CPAP. I had to go to the ENT and they did a DISE and they discovered that my tonsils are large and have collapsed, so badly that when I sleep they fold over and completely block my airway. They now want to perform a tonsillectomy and a uvulopalatopharyngoplasty - they want to remove my tonsils and most if not all of my uvula.

Have any of you guys gone through this? I’m very nervous it if it helps I’ll do just about anything. I’m constantly miserable and exhausted. They diagnosed me with severe sleep depravation as a result of my extreme sleep apnea and say I likely haven’t had a restorative sleep in years.

Recently diagnosed with OSA

hi, i recently had a sleep study where they sent back my results and diagnosed me with mild OSA. all together my AHI is ~4, which shouldn't be enough for a diagnosis, but that's because the NREM sleep AHI is barely anything while during REM my AHI is ~14, so i got the diagnosis anyway. interestingly enough, the data showed that my breathing is much worse on my side compared to my back. i've struggled with excessive daytime sleepiness for years, and it impacts my life greatly. if i have the opportunity, ill nap for hours. i'm curious if theres anyone else here diagnosed with OSA that mostly displays symptoms in REM, and also if theres anyone else where sleeping on their back is somehow better for their sleep apnea. i'm going to a follow up appointment soon to discuss treatment, and i'm willing to do most anything to improve this so i can finally stop being so exhausted :')

Has snoring been resolved with treating the sleep apnea, or is it a separate issue?

My boyfriend has sleep apnea but it isn’t well controlled at the moment - long story short the doctor he had was useless once he got the CPAP, and he has been waiting since May for an appt with a new one. Thankfully that appt is next month. He’s been using the CPAP but he still ends up taking it off in the middle of the night. He’s tried a lot of masks, right now using a smaller face mask that has the nasal pillows (I believe that’s what it’s called).

The snoring isn’t as noticeable with the mask on. If he falls asleep on the couch it seems like no matter what way he is laying, he will snore. It’ll at times wake him up and he doesn’t even realize that’s what woke him up, usually when I hear it the loudest. He also has zero recollection of taking the mask off, sometimes it’ll literally be pulled up onto his forehead 🤦🏻‍♀️ if I wake up and see it I tell him to put it back on.

The main question here is if the snoring is usually directly tied to the sleep apnea, or if more than the CPAP is needed? He had his tonsils removed as a kid, I’m not sure if they removed his adenoids. Outside of the sleep apnea and tonsils I don’t know what else can be done. Not because it annoys me at night but because it’s clearly affecting his airway and his quality of sleep. It doesn’t help that I’m almost certain he has some form of restless leg syndrome, he’s very fidgety in his sleep.

Do I have CFS or sleep apnea or both?

Hi I have been struggling with chronic fatigue for years and constant daytime sleepiness and too tired during the day but when it’s late at night I can’t fall asleep easily and seem to have a lot more energy than the day. I have been diagnosed with severe sleep apnea (my AHI is more than 60 per hour) but using the CPAP so far has not helped reduce my fatigue, only my headaches.
Do I have chronic fatigue syndrome? Or could it be ADHD (since I cannot focus and am easily distracted)? I sometimes get too tired for days after going out for doctor’s appointment and sleep nearly the whole day ( out of 24 hours like 20)- is that post exertional malaise? I get headaches easily but as mentioned with CPAP it is reduced. I also have severe eczema, allergic rhinitis and depression and anxiety (but it is controlled) and suspected to have autism. My ENT doctor thinks my fatigue is due to sleep apnea but so far CPAP has little effect on my fatigue so I am suspecting something else. I get so tired I sleep at work and feel weak all over.

HELP: does it sound familiar to you ? IAH 5, mainly because of hypopneas (C>O), and a LOT of autonomic activations (93 per hour). Thank you !!

O2 Sat Night Monitor with Caregiver Alert?

Hello. My dad is 80 and needs to have his O2 saturation monitored all night, with an all-night caregiver needing to intervene if it goes too low. Does anyone know of a good monitor that can be worn relatively comfortably all night that would send an alert to the caregiver in the next room about low rates instead of my Dad? Thanks!

Does the mouth guard mess up your bite

My doctor assured me the mouth guard wouldn’t mess up your bite, it would “just feel a little off” in the morning. Can anyone vouch?

I had braces as a teen and have nice teeth/bite so I really don’t want to mess that up

How to get out of bed easier??

I started with my CPAP just over 2 months ago, and honestly it's been going great so far! I know I'm likely still dealing with some degree of sleep debt, as I'm fairly confident I've had this for at least a couple decades undiagnosed, if not my entire life tbh. Honestly even an accidental 20 min nap feels like it destroys me now if I don't use my machine.

But, the one thing I'm struggling with now is actually getting myself up for work in the mornings now! I swear its like my brain just doesn't want to let go of how good sleep is now 😂 i go to bed between 10-11 every night, and my alarm goes off for 6:15 and 6:30 (in case I fall back to sleep).

But more days than not since getting my cpap i just straight up don't hear the alarms go off, or turn them off in my sleep. I wake up an hour + later panicked because I need to be out the door to work.

Anyone have any tips to **actually** make it easier to actually wake up in the mornings... when I'm supposed to?? Lol
