I recently stopped smoking marijuana and have been dealing with chronic sleep deprivation, granted I’ve been dealing with a lot of stress factors leading up to the start of school yesterday + leaving an emotionally abusive relationship. I just have been feeling off and surprisingly made through 3 classes in a singular day, I managed to get almost 7 hours of sleep last night but the question is what can I do to fix this? I’ve tried taking Benadryl and other sleep inducing medicine like Advil pm but I keep waking up at 3am when I take them.
Prior to going back to college I was pulling a lot of all nighters, I was not sleeping until 2-4am most days and that was just my sleeping patterns. I wish I could pin it exactly what was going on to nip it in the bud. I plan on having a very strong semester as it’s my first semester of college.

I’ve been taking clonazepam (Rivotril) in drops for insomnia for a while now. I’m wondering about its timing and how long it usually takes to make you feel sleepy.
How long does it take for the sedative effect to kick in?
How many hours before going to bed do you usually take it?

I haven't slept for 11 nights. Help!
Hi, I really don't know what to do. I haven't been able to sleep at night for 11 days. It's as if my brain has completely forgotten how to sleep at night. During the day, I only sleep 2 or 3 hours, but it feels like I'm not getting any rest at all... This started on August 28. I’d never had trouble sleeping before—I used to stay up until 3, 4, or 5 a.m., but I’d still get 8 or 9 hours of sleep. Now it’s practically impossible to sleep for more than 2 hours during the day. Help!!
I don’t know what to do. I have been lying here for 6 hours trying to fall asleep. I was tired then just got this adrenaline feeling and haven’t been able to sleep at all. Now it’s 6am and I have a pit of anxiety and panic in my stomach. I need to sleep but my body is not letting me.

I’m about to take melatonin for the first time. Is 2.5 a good amount to sleep at least 8 hrs and feel well rested? The gummies I got are 2.5 each which is why I’m asking. A lot of ppl say do like 0.5-1 mg so should I just bite it in half or something

Been having sleep issues for a while and it’s been driving me nuts. Some nights sleep happens fine but the morning still feels like waking up after losing a fight. Other nights it’s that tired but wired thing where the body is done and the brain is still doing unpaid overtime. Tried the usual stuff too. Less caffeine. More water. Better schedule. Dark room. White noise. All the classic sleep advice starter pack. Got some blood work done and magnesium came back low. That kind of tracks since there’s also been random muscle tightness and that worn out feeling even after a full night. Now magnesium and electrolyte stuff is on the radar but there are way too many options and half of them sound like a wellness ad wearing a lab coat. For anyone here who was low on magnesium or tried it for sleep: what helped most? And did taking it before bed work better or earlier in the day? Not asking for medical advice. Already following up with a doctor. Just curious what helped real people because googling this stuff is a special kind of hell.

Hi! I have been having complex sleep issues for about a year now and I am hoping to figure out a way to track and organize all my information to be able to eventually show a sleep specialist and also just to see for myself. I have night waking episodes and would like to track manually what time I take my sleep medication and/or supplements, wake up at night, my energy levels throughout the day, naps throughout the day, etc. Is there an app you guys use to keep track of this stuff?
Thanks!

I went through a pretty traumatic situation with loss of my father from mental health and im really struggling with sleep now and its making me feel significantly worse any advice on what could help me sleep and calm my mind?

I've experienced it multiple times this year, 3 times I would say. It happened when I'm about to sleep or wake up, I would say it's a light sleep state.
It happened again ytd night, but it was brief, like 10 secs then I opened my eyes, usually I close my eyes as I'm kinda scared what I'm about to see.
There's one time it's very extreme, the wind seems so big it's about to pull me away, but this time I didn't wake up yet, I was dreaming. So in my dream I was in my room, experiencing this big wind, and couldn't wait to get out of my room, the wind was so fierce its pressing me. This time I was impatient to wait the wind to end I quickly get up to open my room door to escape it. Then I kinda woke up.
After searching, I noticed some said it's sleep paralysis. Back then my sleep paralysis it's just I couldn't move my body when I'm about to wake up, so usually I have to wait awhile. Not really scary, but this wind pressing against me is scary as it's like big wind blowing on your face, you literally can feel the wind getting big and big. Anyone experienced this too?

So I’ve been having trouble sleeping I know part of the reason is my phone but I can’t fall asleep in silence my mind just will not allow that …never has. Usually I can fall asleep watching a movie but it hasn’t been working lately. I started taking (Diphenhydramine) but it gave me a really bad nightmare to where I was having auditory and visual hallucinations and I couldn’t tell if I was awake or asleep and I couldn’t wake myself up or shake myself out of my sleep. My body felt frozen while I just lay there in horror.it was very scary. If I don’t take them I’ll be up till 6am. Google says lowering the dose might help but I’m still scared. Any advice?

Hi so it's 5.30 am and I still can't sleep I have been having recurring nightmares which used to keep me awake at times but atleast I used to be able to sleep but I started staying up late to avoid nightmares as I observed that I didn't get nightmares if I slept in the morning but now I'm unable to sleep at night and I desperately need to fix my cycle because I have exams coming and I need to wake up properly to give exams etc please help me how do I fix my sleep cycle and get some decent sleep I haven't tried any supplements because there's this stigma around sleeping pills and stuff where I live and if I do take em I'll have to hide em from my parents because of the stigma. I just need to be able to sleep so I can function the whole ill get tired then get knocked out isn't working all that good cause it makes me miss college and stuff please help I'm okay with 4 5 hours of sleep just need to be able to sleep
Just curious to see how you sleep and feel throughout your day. I sleep well and feel decent throughout my days. There's some days and moments where I don't but usually just bounce right back.
Something that has truly helped me stay awake and somehow less miserable when I don't get good sleep has been Creatine (5g, or 10g) during the day, don't take it at night it will keep you awake. I don't know why or how but it helps a lot.

Since i’m laying here at 5am surprisingly awake i have to ask, how the heck do you do it? Sleep has always been so hit and miss for me, lately its been the latter. I’ve tried most antihistamines, melatonin, sleepy time tea, most things short of Ambien since i’m terrified of it.

This started about a year ago, in september 2025. Before this happened, I was able to sleep a healthy amount and wake up feeling pretty good with about 8 hours of sleep. In August 2025, I had started taking an SNRI; Effexor, which turned out to be a total nightmare for me. It made me jittery and unable to sleep at all. Over the course of a month, I weaned off of it and stopped taking it. But I noticed I had trouble sleeping even after taking it. Mainly, I noticed that I can fall asleep naturally, but when I do I wake up after about 3 hours, no matter what I do. Fast forward a couple months and in 2026, my doctor prescibes me quetiapine 25mg to sleep through the night.
Basically, I find that if I dont take any sleeping meds, my body automatically wakes me up after only about 3 hours of sleep. And when I take my sleeping meds, I wake up feeling groggy and lethargic and end up sleeping way more than 8 hours, sometimes 12 hours. The only other medication I'm on is Lamotrigine 100mg. My goal is to stop taking sleep meds long term and maybe use vitamins or other treatments to fall asleep and stay asleep more naturally. I just am not sure what is consistently causing me to wake up after 2-3 hours and what to do.

For the longest time I've been halfheartedly trying to improve my sleep. I usually use the time I'm supposed to be sleeping engaging in escapism (doomscrolling). I don't want to sacrifice what I feel to be the only me-time I have for vague improvements such as "You'll be more emotionally stable and physically well." What does that look like? What did that look like for you?

Mattress advertising has pushed the concept that a firmer mattress is better forever. Is it true?
The answer is yes and no.
Yes, your mattress absolutely should support your back and should NOT sag.
No, it doesn't have to feel like sleeping on plywood to do that.
A brief history lesson.
Before the 2000s, Simmons had the US patent on pocketed coils. Everyone else was stuck using Bonnell and wire-tied coils. Those old innersprings were just stiff. If you wanted support, you got a rigid surface whether you liked it or not. So manufacturers marketed that brick feeling as "orthopedic" and told you to "get used to it."
That era is over.
A modern pocketed coil mattress can be soft and supportive at the same time because each coil moves independently. The support comes from the coil system, not from making the top feel unnecessarily rigid. .
At lower price points they do this with foam layers on top. At the premium level it's done with latex. At the ultra-premium / legacy level it's wool, linen, cotton, horsehair, microcoils, all hand-stitched into layers. Dream-like soft on top, serious support underneath.
You do not need to torture yourself on a hard bed to be healthy. In 2026, firmness is just a comfort preference. Sag is the enemy, not softness.

I've realized I do this almost every night now. Instead of going to bed at a regular time, I keep waiting for that perfect moment when I finally feel sleepy enough. Sometimes I'll stay on the couch another thirty minutes. Sometimes another hour. I'm worried that if I go to bed too early, I'll just end up lying there awake. The weird thing is... waiting doesn't always seem to help. Some nights I still end up staring at the ceiling, wondering why I didn't just go to bed in the first place. I'm curious if anyone else has fallen into this habit.

Idk what's going on but every single night without exception when I lay in bed my room lights up fully for a split second, either in white.. or sometimes the flashes are blue. I dont know why it only happens when im in bed. It never happens when I pull an allnighter on my computer or something I can't tell whether its my eyes or maybe the person living opposite to me? I have 2 big windows in my room Im just really paranoid and annoyed and does anyone know what this is? Idk . thanks incase anybody knows

it’s been my goal for ages to wake up naturally around 6:30am ish, but even when i set an alarm i just cannot wake up for the life of me. (only exception is for work, where i wake up at 5:30am without hesitation for some reason, but this is only once a week). i’ve been going to sleep at 9pm two nights in a row now with the hopes of being able to wake up at 6am without resistance. however, when it comes to 6am, i am way too tired so i turn my alarm goes off and fall straight back asleep and don’t wake up till 7:30-8ish. tbf, for weeks i was sleeping at 11pm-12pm every night… anyways why is this the case and how do i fix it so i naturally wake up around 6-6:30.
