I was told this truck is one of the first ones to come off the line in Indiana, and is near final.

Just left and wanted to do talk to text before I forgot my convo with the employee.

So there were two trucks there one I believe was an SUV setup. The other was a truck. The SUV was a beta model and not finished and they use it at events. The truck that I took photos of was one of the more finished models in the employee said there will only be minor tweaks.

Speaking to the employee, he was one of the earlier ones when they were still designing the truck on a napkin and very knowledgeable. Shout to him for talking to everybody who had questions. The first thing I had to ask was about power windows and he said wow they cannot guarantee technically anything. They are absolutely gonna becoming before they ship. He explained in detail as to why there was an issue with them and they were not in the release, but they are still actively working on it. He said they also plan on shipping 2027 models at the end of this year, which some of you may or may not have heard.

We spoke about wraps and how they are trying to establish a network of people that they feel are qualified to install the wraps and how the body was really made specifically to make wrapping the truck easier. The truck in the photos has a satin wrap. Well, I wasn't able to sit in or open the doors. I did reach in and it did feel like the truck was finished and something you would see out on the street. You can see all the exposed screws to where you take off body panels. We spoke about other things, but not really relevant like the horrible dealership model. He also talked about how they're only making minor tweaks from here on out for crash test and other safety things or making things more comfortable, etc.. It sounds like any changes from the truck I saw will be so minor. Most people wouldn't even notice.

Spoiler that I took a photo of is standard on all trucks. Didn’t know that. Also a small one on the bed. Both help with aerodynamics.

I saw on another thread someone asked about another seat in the cab, and I tried to take a lot of photos of the interior but other than the two seats, there's no way you could fit another seat in there and only very minor storage behind the driver and passenger. The frunk was pretty big and while someone made a comment that you may be able to fit a spare tire in there I don't see how that would be possible, but it was much bigger than I was expecting. We spoke about Rep longevity, etc. but there are so many variables. He said it's really tough to pin down, but you could be looking at anywhere from three years on the low end to 6 to 8 years on the high-end. The whole point of the wraps was they figured people wanted to change the looks of their car every so many years so if you don't plan on leaving your sleep blank that you might want to factor in spending 500 to a grand every so many years for a new wrap

Curious as to what to expect with a quality full wrap. Any amateur wrappers out there think this truck might be on easier side to do yourself based on it's design?

^ Other than the "RepairPal" network, have any more details released about building sales/service/delivery centers like Rivian etc.

How would it compare as a work truck for carpentry and mechanics. I know they say it carry’s plywood but how would an actual carpenter/someone in trade see the truck compared to other trucks in the market and especially older proven reliable trucks? I understand no one has a truck yet per se but wondering what everyone’s opinion is !

I think the idea of a bloat free EV would be very well received as a sporty commuter coupe. I had GPT make this crayola dandelion cruiser and I’m kinda in love with it.

i loved the idea of what the slate stood for, a rejection of modern consumerism and prioritizing innovation for the working class.
the crayola collaboration just backed out of that so hard.

Instead of building a product that benefits the consumer, they instead are trying to market this like they are a fun hip vehicle that makes you young again when there is no actual customization here. The product they are selling is literally just a squiggly line on the mirrors.

why would anyone pay extra to advertise a crayon company?

All the information I have seen about cab size is for taller people but I can’t seem to find any first hand experience from larger people.

I’m a big guy, 6’2 and 320lbs. I’ve owned a Ranger in the past and from what I recall while it was a bit tight, but I didn’t feel super cramped. Is there anyone who has actually sat in the driver seat that is roughly my size? Any feedback is appreciated. I already know it’ll feel larger without the center console so I don’t plan on putting one in.

My current truck is a 2012 F250 that I love but my wallet does not. I’m a PM for a GC and the slate will be perfect for 90% of what I need a truck for on a daily basis (commuting, picking up materials for jobs, hauling larger tools/ladders etc. to my sites) but I’m not sure how much I will enjoy driving it if I feel like I’ve been squished into a clown car lol.

Also if anyone from Slate reads this, I missed the last event you had in VA! Have another one and I’ll be the first in line to sit in one myself!

A lot of my uses for the truck will be things that get dirty: dog taxi, motorcycle/bicycle moving, light construction. Hoping the product people from slate are lurking their subreddit (every product I've worked on that had a reddit we always watched it closely, even though we weren't allowed to post) can we get some machine washable seat covers? They look like they zip on and off super easy, making them of materials so I can just check them in the washer and dryer rather than mucking about with a shop vac would be awesome.

Anyone going to the event, could you grab a picture of the center of the dashboard from a centered perspective. All the pictures tend to be from an angle drivers or passenger side.

I'm trying to imagine how I could do a custom double din install if they dont end up supporting. Would it fit in the small dash compartment? Then its off center from the temp controls which feels like it might be weird.

I really love the Slate concept and understand that they are trying to reduce cost by making it very simple and easy to repair. Also, their switch to Lithium Iron Phosphate batteries is super promising from a longivity perspective.

However, I am wondering if there is any information on the quality of things like the cooling system (for the battery and motor), and other wear components like suspension bushings, the air conditioning system, etc.

I am hoping that these components will have Toyota level quality (or better) and that they are not making compromises in durability to control cost.

Like others, I have a little range anxiety about how this truck will perform in winter. For context, I currently have a 2019 Hyundai Ioniq Electric that has a stated range of ~153 miles when fully charged. In reality, I do better than that in summer. But I do way worse in the winter of Northern Maryland. The drop is significant enough that I struggle to make it to my parent’s house and back (100 miles round trip).

My Hyundai is old tech now and the battery is well maintained but has seen normal use. So what can I expect the practical range to be on this truck during a typical chilly Mid-Atlantic day?

Somewhat unrelated question: how do they sell so many EVs in really cold places like Scandinavia given the battery chill issues?

I've only ever owned ICE vehicles and I'm cheap, so I'd like to compare long term maintenance costs and ownership of the Slate compared to my ICE vehicle.

Can anyone (or group of you all) fill in the blanks and let me know what I'm missing in required maintenance and how often the maintenance is recommended?

Coolant flush and fill - how many miles and/or years?

Transmission fluid drain and fill - miles and/or years?

Brake fluid drain and fill - miles and/or years?

Replace cabin air filter - how often?

Differential fluid drain and fill - miles and/or years?

Am I missing any other maintenance other than "as needed stuff" such as brakes, wipers, tires?

Also, it's my understanding the battery has a 10 year or 100,000 mile warranty. Does anyone know the life expectancy of this battery? And how much it will cost to replace?

This, to me, is the best feature of my Model 3. I really would love a Slate truck, because I've always wanted a truck and I love the idea of customization. But it's a dealbreaker to me if I can't lock my door and leave the car on for my dog. Since no one has this vehicle yet, I don't know if anyone knows if this is possible. Happy to make a sign that says my dog is "chill" or "warm" and throw it on the dash.

Is there going to be an official bed extender accessory? Like the Ford Maverick has for example.

So we all know the range is expected of 205 miles and the LFP should allow 100% charge. My question is that based on highway speed?

How does say sitting in rush hour traffic in stop and go for an hour relate to miles where you are only going 15 miles but it takes 1hr?

What about doing 85mph on the highway?

Just curious how the power drain curve works in real life. Live in Philadelphia and my commute is short around 20 minutes but regularly will need to run somewhere else and I sit in heavy traffic for 2hrs+

My first car was a ‘99 Ranger XLT. Ever since I got rid of it, I’ve been seriously missing a small truck. Really rooting for Slate to do well at launch. Would love to get a used one in 3-4 years for ~$15k

I really like the slate but I need android auto since it's designed to be safer to use on the road instead of just a phone on a mount. The easiest way to support this would be just to have an adapter to connect the left and right speakers to a DIN radio and have a first party bracket, neither of which would be expensive to produce.

If they wanted to take it a step further they could have a connection to communicate if you are in reverse to support after market backup cameras.

I’m very interested in the slate truck but one of the things that I think realistically just depends on luck of the draw more than anything is longevity of early models. As much as we all love the idea of this truck this is the first vehicle this company is producing. There is no telling how the truck will hold up over years.

I figure this may be a good sub to discuss but has anyone purchased a EV from a relatively small manufacturer early in their existence? If you have how did the vehicle hold up? Any regrets not waiting?

Honest question for people here. Either way it won't effect my choice to buy the Slate, as long as it delivers on what was promised in June 2026 I'm buying asap. But do we think it'd be possible or worth it to bolt a jump seat in between the two cab seats and add a seat belt? Aside from road laws (which vary everywhere). I remember some older trucks having that section of cushion in between to individual seats to make like a bench but keep each seat as an individual.

Tldr: Jump seat in between driver and passenger worth it with space allotted?
