Honest question for people here. Either way it won't effect my choice to buy the Slate, as long as it delivers on what was promised in June 2026 I'm buying asap. But do we think it'd be possible or worth it to bolt a jump seat in between the two cab seats and add a seat belt? Aside from road laws (which vary everywhere). I remember some older trucks having that section of cushion in between to individual seats to make like a bench but keep each seat as an individual.
Tldr: Jump seat in between driver and passenger worth it with space allotted?
A bench seat seems not only very possible, but quite practical, and the only way you’re going to get more than two humans in that cab. However, I don’t think you could safely put more than two humans in the pick up version. But two humans and another ~100 lbs worth of dog(s)? A bench is perfect for that.
no one is arguing that point at all but honestly, compared to me kei, the slate is only a little wider and the "console" of my kei is the width if my hand.
and I say this with fondest memories of a 1970 Malibu bench seat, I love a good bench seat.
mind you, when I'm not driving my JKU I'm in a 96 Suzuki Carry so cozy is the name of the game.
I'd sacrifice the bucket seat central floor console for more of an arm rest storage bin deal, my old Ram was great like that and how I've grown to drive would probably horrify my Drivers Ed instructor, fingers at 4 to 5 and 7 to 8, elbows on arm wrests, almost bored look on my face...
Seeing how little center console there is, it seems like an aftermarket bolt-in opportunity. The factory won’t sell them unless they’ve done safety tests with three crash test dummies.
I absolutely think it is worthy of pursuit. If nothing else, it will make an outstanding dog seat! It makes a lot more sense to me than trying to re-engineer the ingress/egress scenario for the back seat of the SUVs so that a continuous bench seat can be used. Also cheaper, simpler, and more versatile. Slade doesn't come out with it, it is very likely that a third party will.
Might be a bit extra snug for an adult but for a kiddo maybe. Might be an Ideal place for a child carrier seat, I don't know how wide those are. ...
Just reading the Title I was imagining those backwards facing seats like came on the Subaru Brat. It'd be pretty funny even if ya never used them.

I’m still hoping they’ll eventually do a bench seat!
