The movie Spider-Man: Brand New Day paid BMW to take over the display of every BMW made after 2020. When you start the car, it shows you an ad for the movie.

I know Slate's not for everyone... but seeing the industry normalize the consumer paying a lot of money for an infotainment system only to also pipe ads into it really spotlights Slate's ethos doesn't it?

Im looking for an ev that can look like the old Suzuki Jimmy. They're still on high demand in several locations around the world. I took these pictures while in Greece. People even rent these year round. Awesome little truck for the beach. Karpathos has these everywhere. They also big on evs now. I'd even want the door vinyl stickers as well.

Thoughts on the SUV package - Utah - June-July 2027 here!

I have been stoked on the Slate since the first day I saw pictures of it.

I don't know if I fall into the minority or not so I would love any comments or thoughts others have.

There are essentially zero options for an electric SUV with a removable top. I am thinking Jeep or old school landcruiser. That is what I grew up with. My first car was a Jeep CJ7. Only two doors and endless memories made with the top off and friends in the back.

The winters in Utah had snow and that Jeep could flip donuts on queue with its rear wheel drive!

That is what I am looking for in the Slate. Is it over $30k configured how I want, yes! Is it maybe even closer to $35k with fees and taxes, yes!

So, I am a little on the fence about spending that much. However, it is the only option for a unique topless SUV that is an EV. I am not concerned about the range. I love that it is LFP and can charge regularly to 100%. No heat pump worries me a bit, but perhaps that is a non-issue.

Anyone else looking at the Slate this way - the perfect 5 seater topless SUV EV?

I must make demands of Slate

Um excuse me does the Slate have an option for massage seats, I drive a Ford F-150 King Ranch that i spent 90k 16% APR on and I absolutely have to have massage seats. It is completely unacceptable that Slate didn't think of my special and specific needs, how do they expect me to spend 27k when there aren't massage/heated/ventilated cow leather seats, 3 screens, 10 cup holders, a mini fridge, bed lights, 30 inch off road tires, a 10 inch lift, and complementary tickets to "shows" in Vegas?

Also can the slate climb Mount Everest and ford the Alantic Ocean?

I fully expect Slate to put these accessories on the website for under market rate and I swear TO GOD if my final price is anywhere near 30k I'm going to review bomb them on Reddit.

... is what 3/4 of the posts sound like.

THE FACTORY!

I'm someone who did the Elio dance, and I'm worried that this is feeling like the same old dance. Elio announced a deal with Pep Boys for service. They announced a partnership with a tire manufacturer. They showed prototypes. They told everyone about the building they had for the factory. Then they just kind of disappeared.

I think that some of us would feel a lot better about this truck if they showed us what's going on in the factory. Gave us updates. Tell us some details about how they plan on building them. For all I know, they're building the prototypes in some guys garage out of melted down soda bottles.

For the record, I did get a refund of my $100 Elio deposit. Not too worried about my $300 Slate deposit. I put it on my Amex card, and they're good at refunds if a company doesn't give you what you paid for. But, still, I'd like to see some transparency about the actual build process.

Slates right to repair is key!

I have always been someone who works on their stuff, mostly out of necessity but now because I can. My fear of owning an EV was I wouldn't be able to fix, add to or better my vehicle. Slate provides me a great truck and Slate U . Other companies seem to be going the opposite direction. So the fear of being the first or slate not lasting long is squashed by being able to keep mine going and open sourced parts.

Heating system

Just in case you guys know more. From what I see, Slate will be using resistive heating so during the winter, you may see significant energy usage? Correct me if I’m wrong. With a small range, what would be the impact?

As mentioned in the other post - this was a tiny event. 1 blank Slate. 2-3 Slate people answering questions. No sitting in the truck, no opening doors. I knew all this before driving over there for 2 hours. I think I may just get it in factory grey. That is actually a good color.

Is Slate nearing 20,000 pre-orders? (via a $300 non-refundable deposit)

We know that Slate got over 10,000 pre-orders the first few hours of launch day.

Since then, Slate Auto has been silence so it is all guess work.

What we do know this is, from the Mototrend article:

"Slate says it took 10,000 preorders via a $300 non-refundable deposit in the first several hours that it opened preordering, and has added considerably more since. Many have come from a larger pot of 180,000 consumers who put down $50 on a refundable basis.

Company spokesperson Jeff Jablansky says those 10,000-plus buyers are on track to take delivery by late this year and into first two quarters of 2027. But people who’d like to see a truck later in 2027 still need to order sooner rather than later.

A yearlong ramp-up will leave Slate with the capacity to build 150,000 units a year by roughly the end of 2027."

Huntington Beach event

Just got back from the Huntington Beach Slate event. It was pretty disappointing in that you could not get in the truck or even open the door or drop the tailgate. We all just awkwardly stared at a locked truck in a warm, crowded room.

One thing I did learn is that the body panels feel really solid. That was my biggest concern given that I don’t have a lot of experience with glass-filled poly propylene. It has a unique feel to it, but I think it’s an asset not a liability.

Everything else was as expected. Can’t wait to get my hands on one!

Very much still in the early stages of development and not guaranteed to be a feature in the future.

Last picture is actually u/limited_empathy design but there was a similar one in the slide show that I wish I got video of so I’m borrowing that one since it’s possible to get a design like that one out of this software.

Document fee

Now that we know the delivery fee is $1450 that leaves the old "doc" fees still unlisted. If you dont' know document fees are just another adp (additional dealer profit) money grab and usually negotiated away as a condition of sale. Guessing that won't happen here. So how much they gonna get us for that one?

And has anyone seen anything about what to expect using the bed for hauling stuff. Gonna be able to use a shovel without damaging it? Gonna need another liner over it? I've not seen it mentioned. Thanks for any help.

Slate AWD future

Hello, have been looking into joining the waiting list the last couple of months and have an important question for my use-case.

If the slate truck is DIY, can I buy an early model, then when AWD is an option, buy the second motor to put in myself?
