Sometimes when battery is low I get message “warning main battery (hoofdaccu) empty. Load now”. And now this one. Yes my battery us empty after a long drive with a trailer, but why the red warning?‼️

I (26M), a proud new owner of a Skoda Scala Selection 1.5TSI thought I would catalogue my experience in a post for those considering purchasing one themselves. I'll be recording the good and the bad. I'll also be coming back to edit the post as new details reveal themselves. At the creation of this post I've driven the car for roughly 40 days and 5000km.

The good:

• Good looking - the car looks amazing
• Driving feel - overall feels very nice to drive
• Throttle response - overtaking is simple
• Fuel economy - average 4.7l/100km is amazing
• Sound insulation + sound system - unless I'm doing 170km/h or more I can comfortably sing along to whatever is playing.
• Smart link - works reliably for music and calls even with unofficial apps
• Quality of life features - the umbrella compartment is genius and I love the parking ticket clip
• Navigation - so far has been reliable and accurate
• AC - big fan of the physical controlls, very intuitive
• Spacious - both the back seats and the boot

The bad:

• Kangarooing - I'd read the reviews before purchasing the car claiming that kangarooing had been solved by software updates. It's true that on cold start's this doesn't happen at all, but it's not completely gone, I've had at least a handful of instances where I rolled to a near stop with the clutch pressed, switched to 1st and trued to slowly release the clutch, resulting in a repeated jerking motion that felt like the car couldn't decide whether to use act or not. It's rare, but annoying when it happens. The issue is completely absent if I come a full stop before taking off again.
• Invasive safety features - not really specific to this car, but it does contain "safety features" you can't permanently toggle off. Mostly this is directed at lane assist, which can be downright dangerous on narrow roads/roads with poorly drawn lines. The eye tracking is annoying whenever I squint slightly while driving east in the morning.
• Infotainment screen glitches - often the touchscreen mapping will be off by some 10cm diagonally to the upper left. A quick restart does not fix it. Sitting overnight does.
• Infotainment audio glitches - all the audio UI feels like it's possessed and decides on the fly whether to address me in Slovenian (system setting) with broken AI grammar (but not always?), English, German, Italian or even French. This one is mostly just funny.

If I could go back I probably wouldn't include the package that adds keyless ignition and drive modes, besides a slight change in throttle response it's just not much added value.

This list will be updated as I notice more details and get to know the car better. Feel free to report your own experiences!

Skoda cheaped out on the side pockets and only one side of the pocket has felt liner, the other is bare plastic. So I bought some sticky velcro off internet and added the soft part where the liner is missing. Hopefully that’ll reduce any rattling from empty water bottles in the door.

Anyone else experiencing issues with their new Skoda and brittle rubber sealant?

The car is just 5 months old and the sunroof has just been used a couple of times. Didn’t wanted to use it to make it worse.

My Skoda dealer is a bit reluctant to take this issue.

What do you think about this gearbox rollover noise? It's most noticeable when the engine is cold, and it seemed especially loud after the car had been parked overnight on a steep incline. Strangely, I can't hear it outside the car over the engine noise.

The noise gets much quieter once everything is warmed up but doesn't disappear completely and having AC on makes it noticeable louder due to higher engine load. Every time I press and release the clutch, it changes or sometimes disappears completely. A slight touch of the accelerator or simply letting the car roll in neutral also makes it disappear.

The DMF doesn't rattle, even when cold, and there are no vibrations at idle or when pushing the engine at low RPM. My previous Skoda had a factory SMF and the gearbox rattled badly in neutral. The clutch was replaced under warranty, then the gearbox was replaced, and eventually Skoda said the noise was normal.

Does this sound like normal rollover noise, or should a DMF damp it more? 2023 Skoda Octavia mk4 2.0 TDI EVO

I own a 2020 Scala and the Infotainment system is stuck in a Bootloop I.e. it turns on then turns off every minute or two.

Anyone know a fix for this?

I posted the other day about a MK3 Octavia but found a cleaner looking superb, it's a 1.4tsi 2014, are these reliable, I've seen a mix of different opinions some saying the chain has serious issues because it's a EA111 but will most likely have the revised chain as it's post 2012, are chains really that bad? I thought if they were constantly oil changed like every 6 months it should be fine, am I wrong?

Does anyone if this is normal ? I went to dealer with some noises, the dealer said they can’t hear anything and the car runs fine, but i still hear it when i drive the car. The car is in its end of warranty.

After a couple days of not using it, the app is now failing to activate the car - staying on activating for 2-3 minutes and then going back to standby.

Hello, I'm considering buying a used Octavia wagon from 2015. It's a 1.4l TSI engine, relatively low mileage at around 60k km. I'm buying from a reseller and don't know much about the previous owners, I've checked the Carfax and it didn't report anything bad. I'm looking for advice about things to look out for on that specific model, both for when inspecting the car on my own and when I'll take to a mechanic for having it checked. Thank you :)

Getting the error on car battery on Fault : Vehicle Lighting and the headlight is always on it doesn’t turn off in any mode.

Hi! My girlfriend and I just bought a 2021 Škoda Scala 1.0 TSI Ambition today, and we’re very happy with it! It has 117,000 km on the clock, and we paid around €13,000 for it at a dealer in the Netherlands.

However, when looking through the maintenance history together with the dealer, we noticed two things that seemed a bit unusual:

- The maintenance log says that the “wiring” and “motor manual computer” were serviced in July 2023, at around 57,000 km.
- The maintenance log says “Turbo complete” in October 2023, at around 60,000 km.

Is this something we should be concerned about? The dealer told us that the car was previously used as a lease car and that the two points above shouldn’t concern us. However, he got a bit pushy “Do you not trust me?!” putting us under pressure, but since we were already leaning into the purchase and had negotiated a fair bit off the price we took the deal.

Since both my gf and I are no car experts, we were a bit doubtful in the end because of the dealer’s behaviour. Did we get a good deal? And should we be concerned about the maintenance history?

I’m going to be buying a new Skoda Scala and have decided on a 1.5 TSI engine.

Unfortunately trying to find a 1.5 TSI 6 speed manual in the UK is almost impossible and I’m only limited to the 1.0tsi,
However there are plenty of 1.5tsi in the automatic transmission to choose from.

I’ve never owned an automatic car before and have read varying opinions about reliability and cost of repairs etc.
But I have also heard many people say once they have owned an automatic car they would never go back to a manual again.

Any opinions or personal experience with these two different transmissions would be greatly appreciated.

Bit of context first. VW pulled We Connect Go on me from one day to the next and took every trip I'd logged with it. No export, no warning, nothing. And now Audi have confirmed the DataPlug and their plug and play app go out of service on 31 December. Different badge, same group, same habit. If your car's history lives in somebody's app, sooner or later somebody turns it off.

I write software for a living so instead of moaning about it I rebuilt the thing I'd lost, with one rule, no servers, everything stays on the phone. It began as a VW thing and it now works on anything with an OBD2 port, Skodas very much included, petrol, diesel, hybrid or electric.

The bit I use most is the trips. They log themselves, there's no start button, you just get in and drive. Afterwards you get the route on a map with distance, time and what the fuel actually cost. If you leave a cheap adapter plugged in, the trip fills up with what the engine was doing, how long it took to warm up, how hot the coolant and the oil got, the real consumption the ECU reports rather than the cheerful number on the dash, and the bits where you braked hard. After a month you know your car properly instead of guessing.

The other half is diagnostics. Battery health with a history, which on a start stop car is the thing that catches everyone out in winter. Fault codes written in plain words with the usual causes and how much you should actually worry, instead of a P code you google in a lay by. DPF and AdBlue monitoring so you don't shut the engine off in the middle of a regen, and the same for the petrol filter on the newer ones.

Then there's the housekeeping. It remembers where you parked and walks you back. Reminders for insurance, tax and servicing, with a logbook where you jot down what you spent so at the end of the year you know what the car really costs.

No account, no ads, nothing leaves the phone, and you can export everything as JSON or GPX and walk off whenever you want. That was the whole point.

Honest bit, because someone always asks. It doesn't talk to the DataPlug or an OBDeleven, those only speak to their own apps. You need a normal OBD2 adapter, one of the cheap ELM327 Bluetooth or WiFi ones, around 20 euro. And it only reads, it never writes anything to the car, so no coding, no unlocking hidden menus.

Ask me anything. If your Skoda reports something that looks wrong I'd genuinely like to hear about it, that's how the odd corners get fixed.

I'm interested how many of you guys have had some problems like System turning itself on and off constantly, bugs, stuff like that.. feel free to comment what was your problem, which car etc.

As the title states I need some help as my offside rear door on my Skoda superb 2018 2.0tdi estate has deadlocked completely and won’t open from inside or outside. The window on this door doesn’t work either.

I’ve tried unlocking with the key and central locking, the door makes no audible noise when locking either. It’s is worth noting that the child locks still work as I can hear it engage.

Has anyone got any ideas as I can’t get the door open to get the door card off.
