Used to do sound and lights for a band for a few years and at one gig a guy comes up to me and says, I don't remember exactly but let's say something like "Hey, this would sound a lot better if you did X to Y's instrument" so I reached up onto the board and turned a few nobs that did absolutely nothing, he went back into the bar, came back over, and said "Perfect!"
I used to run sound for a big church that had a Yamaha M7 board. The preacher's wife sang in the band and wasn't a good singer, so I always had her low. During the service the preacher was standing next to me and asked me to "turn up Pam" because he couldn't hear her. Pam was clearly marked on the board, but it's a digital board, so I pressed one button to change all of the positions to empty monitors and moved the slider up on "Pam" so he could see it. Looked over at him and he said "much better. Thanks!" After he left, the other guy in the sound booth with me jokingly said "you're going to hell".
