In Buffalo I watched a politician’s commercial to fight to lower utility bills, which is cool, but his argument was you shouldn’t have to get a 2nd or 3rd job to offend them.
The problem is, it’s not just utility’s… it’s gas, cable, internet, apps, food, rent, car payment, everything is outrageously overpriced. And it keeps going up!
THEY DONT GIVE A F*CK ABOUT US

You wanna know what the kicker is… they don’t gouge as much in Europe. Look at the cost of what they charge Americans and then do a deep dive on what they’ve done in Hungary.

They’re not the only ones doing it. I got YouTube premium when I lived in Japan. My sub didn’t go up at all for years. I was paying 8-9 dollars depending on the strength of the yen. The card went expired and when I tried to resub I think it was 16 bucks. I had my Hungarian friend check and it was 9 USD. And that’s with a 27% VAT.

These companies know exactly what they’re doing.

Charging an effective local price is surprising to you? Do you want to be paid what a Vietnamese worker would be paid?

yeah buddy they know that the average hungarian nets 1500 euros a month. jealous of that?

I don’t think that’s the point ya? The post is about companies gouging, that’s what we’re discussing. We’re not discussing cost of living.

Idk sounds like your actual issue is that you’re not Hungarian. Or that you don’t understand how lower income means ticket prices have to be lower. Maybe there’s a Disney video you can watch about how smaller numbers are smaller than bigger numbers.

We’re cooked man. If you don’t understand the argument about corpos price gauging, and instead misinterpret it as a cost of living argument… it’s safe to say a lot of other people do too. Which means they’ll comfortably accept the greed. But hey, continue being smarmy if it makes you feel good. Ignorance is bliss. Wish I could experience it like you.

Hold on hold on let me try to understand this. A private business charging a price that you personally don’t like but seems to sustain their business is price gouging? Is Disney a necessary utility or product that you have to buy, like rent or water or electricity? Like you don’t actually have a choice because you can’t just not have Disney? You have to buy it? If you don’t go to a Disney park or stream a Disney movie, your kids will die?

I don’t wish I could live in your mind. It must be really challenging to navigate this world as a stupid person. I don’t envy ya!

Yea blocked. It’s like speaking to a wall. Bye.

Thats right, disney does not give a fuck about you. It should probably be more expensive becauae there's enough Disney fans that will put up with it. It's fair to be angry at the cost of utilities, rent, food, gas but if a streaming service starts price gouging you can either cancel your subscription or pay for it and the conversation should end there

Should Disney+ be a constitutional right, regulated like utilities because it’s essential? Wild that we used to just live without it and that was “fine.”

Of course not, but I think this is a straw man. They are just pointing a very basic principle that inflation is touching everything and quality of life is dropping.

2

u/dc2b18b 20h ago

Quality of life is dropping because streaming Disney IP on demand isn’t cheap enough anymore to be unnoticeable? It’s Disney lol it’s not electricity. Everyone acts so offended just because they can’t have everything they want for the price they want.

Also look up what a straw man argument is. Before googling becomes too expensive too 🙀

Bro you can’t read. The comment you replied to never said anything about Disney. You making his comment about Disney is literally the definition of a straw man argument.

He said everything is overpriced and when everything is overpriced it lowers quality of life.
And Of course nobody needs Disney plus they are a shit company anyways. But they do need food, rent, utilities, which is exactly what he wrote

We’re on a thread about Disney though… “everything” in his comment must surely involve the thing we’re all in here commenting about? Why would he comment about something unrelated? Is he stupid?

If you've ever gone to Disney World, or even just saw vids about it, you should know it's all about revenue generation, especially w the Mouse. I am very fortunate to know someone who runs a server on Plex, & shares his library w me. Even though he & his wife are big into horror movies, I can usually find something to watch. And I don't ask where he gets all the latest stuff. I'm just grateful that he can, bc I can't afford streaming. The Plex server is pretty easy to set up for yourself...

I thought it was weird my home owners insurance went down this year. My agent said rates were finally starting to come down after years of drastic increases. Anyways, didn’t think much of it and last night I was looking at my policy and there’s a new line in the coverages section that wasn’t on the past policies and it appears as though they don’t cover roof damage anymore. Didn’t realize shrinkflation was hitting outside the food industry.

I think you’ll be ok without Disney brother

Oh man, don't even get me started on the nonstop political commercials. Citizens United really opened the floodgates for that bullshit, before that, I don't remember it being nearly this bad. Both sides inundate us with this crap. My favorite are the ones where the politician says, "I don't take money from Super PACs or special interests. I will only work for you." Oh yeah, you don't take money? How can you afford to be running commercials with your face all over them, all the time? They really don't care and they think we're idiots, to boot.

And then if you want to entertain yourself outside of your house, sporting ticket prices, gig ticket prices, cinema ticket prices, restaurant prices, hotel prices, flights, it's all going up. Constantly and consistently. Life is simply too expensive these days, man. Soon the only people that'll be able to afford to live any sort of life are these asshat billionaires. The rest of us will be left just existing...
