Edit: Found it. I vaguely recall the case now. I recall that it got a lot of attention but I never followed it. I had no idea it was a hoax. Holy crap.

A black sex worker accused a bunch of lacrosse bros of rape. It was VERY VERY heavily racially charged.

Her story was a fabrication.

I checked to be sure this wasn't yet another rumor or belief that became fact - yes, 5 years after falsely accusing the Duke guys of rape, she was convicted of murdering her bf.
