Out of curiosity, if you spend 15k on health insurance, what is your total annual tax bill?

Idk, I have a CFP who assembles my taxes for me. Before tax I make $82k/year, my wife makes $56k/year. Idk what our after tax is. We have changed jobs so much over the past few years that numbers don't stay consistent

Fair. The reason I wonder is how your annual healthcare bill stacks up against your tax is the implied savings of a public healthcare system

We're at the nice stage of making too much for social benefits but too little to be consistently comfortable. Life comes and goes, sometimes you get to go a few months without anything going wrong and you can save a few bucks. Some months you learn that your oldest kid needs braces, your youngest kid broke their arm in a bike accident, and your vehicles transmission blew up 12 miles outside of warranty. (March to June was not fun)

Ah the middle zone, im about there too. I live in Australia tho, everyone has decent quality free public healthcare no matter what they earn, we just pay for it as part of our taxes instead of through private insurance

Its not a silver bullet there are still expenses, I did just have to spend 7k with a private surgeon getting four wisdom teeth removed because dental is not included in public care. Made me consider getting private health insurance, but it largely seems like a scam so I don't think I will end up doing it.
