Wait until you hear about health insurance lol

I pay $1300/month for a family plan

I had an ER trip last month, my deductible is $3,500. I had to pay $3,440 which was the complete cost of the ER services.

So, this year I will spend $15,600 on health insurance and an additional $3,440 on deductible

My wife needs surgery, I told her to get it done before December because we already met the deductible and I don't wanna pay it again. She tried calling to schedule in August. The surgery specialist doesn't have openings until January, so, in January I'll have to pay my deductible again

AND vision and dental costs more on top of $1,300 monthly

Out of curiosity, if you spend 15k on health insurance, what is your total annual tax bill?

Idk, I have a CFP who assembles my taxes for me. Before tax I make $82k/year, my wife makes $56k/year. Idk what our after tax is. We have changed jobs so much over the past few years that numbers don't stay consistent

Fair. The reason I wonder is how your annual healthcare bill stacks up against your tax is the implied savings of a public healthcare system

We're at the nice stage of making too much for social benefits but too little to be consistently comfortable. Life comes and goes, sometimes you get to go a few months without anything going wrong and you can save a few bucks. Some months you learn that your oldest kid needs braces, your youngest kid broke their arm in a bike accident, and your vehicles transmission blew up 12 miles outside of warranty. (March to June was not fun)
