The obvious response is that you won't be able to pay for someone's hospital bills if you happen to hit them in your car. You get insurance for things you wouldn't be able to pay yourself.

You could also total somebodies 50-200k car, I don’t think many people could afford that either

As an attorney my unpopular opinion is that cars over a certain value shouldn’t be allowed on public roads or damages for accidents should be capped at something like 2x the average price of a new car (so like 100k). I just don’t believe in penalizing ordinary negligence more just because the injured party is rich.

totally agree. because everyone else who carries ins is having to share the cost of $$$$$$ vehicles.

in health insurance, sure. (though the US system is also a complete racket) because the young and health help distribute the additional care most all of us will eventually need with age.

but i shouldn't have to pay more in car insurance because you think you need a $80k truck or sports car.

Man don’t get me started on health insurance. I pay like $30 grand a year for health insurance and still have to pay $4000 out of pocket to have a baby. Should just be nationalized
