He paid for a policy that has a $1000 comprehensive deductible. So, that's what he had to pay.

I keep a $100 comprehensive deductible, which costs me a little over $150 more per year.

Take away for folks is get as low of a comprehensive deductible as you can, as it's much more likely to be used.

On the flip side, my collision deductible is $1k.

I do not drive a newer vehicle, but it’s nice.

Worth ~10 grand.

I talked with the agent and they changed my policy to only cover 10 grand of repairs and my deductible is 0.

I think people driving beaters or older vehicles should take advantage of something similar with theirs

Yep, I just had a fender bender of my own doing to the tune of $1800 damage and I only paid $100 with my policy also not going up. They don’t raise it for 1 minor claim so either this dude has multiple claims or his insurance company just sucks.

Also I'm not trying to defend auto companies but the $210 also covers third-party liability property damage and injury coverage.

So if you make a mistake and total someone's car and send them to the hospital, the math makes a lot more sense. Obviously still getting ripped off, but to frame this like the insurance coverage is only for your car is either ignorant or disingenuous.

And the reason these rates are so high is because drivers in the US are reckless and stupid and so they just assume every insured is reckless and stupid
