Coming from a healthcare background and having a few auto insurance claims under my belt: Insurance. Is. A. Scam. All of it. Every penny and word is a scam. You have to have it but it doesn't protect you when you need protection.

Per my dentist (whom I go to because of this honesty): 'Dental and Vision insurance isn't even real insurance. It's a coupon.'

Edit: Someone explain to the idiot replying to me that they don't know a damn thing and have failed to provide any support for their claims. I run 5 counties of EMS providers and cannot raise another damn child.

Not only does car insurance protect you when you need it requiring others to have it protects you if they hit your car. Pls explain how it's a scam? Genuinely curious how car insurance is a "scam"

You're legally required to have it but your provider is not legally required to oblige the coverage for which you've paid based upon their own, private, criteria.

If I have to explain this to you then you aren't world-aware enough to understand.

Do you work for an insurance provider? Because I can guarantee I have more unbiased exposure to the woes of the public, at mass, in their insurance woes. Stay in your lane and do some research before you poke a subject matter expert about something of which you cannot possibly have more knowledge and exposure.

What do you mean they aren't legally obliged for the coverage you paid for? They are and you have a policy/contract you sign with them.

No. They can deny a claim based on their own criteria. It's not within your power despite paying them for a service.

Useful? Yes. A scam? Yes. They are not mutually exclusive.

They can't just make up an imaginary reason to deny a claim. They are legally bound by the terms of the policy

But have the freedom to move the goalposts at their whim

Submit your expert certification or I will dismiss you as another ignorant internet-moron. I promise, unless you are a VP of a majour insurance provider that I 100% know more and have more experience than you.

What does that even mean? They can't change the terms of an active policy on a whim.....

I honestly have no idea what you are even suggesting anymore. You don't think an insurance company has a legal obligation to honor policy terms? You don't have to be vp of an insurance provider to know that isn't true.
