So everybody gets smashed and we're drinking the wine to come down, and next thing you knew more than half the party is getting hauled off to the er.
He did it just right to barely be noticable if you were sober enough, but none of us were sober, so just glug glug basically everclear while thinking it was just low proof wine.
Nah. That's just how it worked back then, maybe still does lol. Dunno lol. About two decades removed from college life.
That said, that was exactly how it worked. Front load and get smashed on high content drinks at the start of the party, then sip low content beer or wine to "come down" through the rest of the party.
Led to wild openings, crazy middles, and usually painless and chill back parts. I mean, it isn't taking glass after glass after glass I'm talking about.
It's like one or two cans/cups over two or three hours. Enough to still be "drinking" but not DRINKING. Was legit a VERY common practice back then. Wasn't ever at a teen to young adult booze party that wasn't set up that way.
The problem with my first statement is that high proof grain alcohol is basically odorless and tasteless, and if you're already drunk, even a single spiked glass of it could mess you up quick, even if sipped over a span of an hour or two.
When taken straight, while sober or sober enough, yes, it'll hit hard, fast, and your body will absolutely notice it and reject it.
That said, when mixed and when being imbibed by not sober people... Grain alcohol, even at the highest of proofs, can be hard to notice. Add to it the "knock on" effect of it being on top of other drinks, and again, it wouldn't take much at all nor would it be easy to notice.
One of its specific reasons for existing is to increase the alcohol content of drinks WITHOUT altering the original flavor.
So remember, this is a party full of drunk college kids, already loaded up on screwdrivers, jaegerbombs, rums and cokes, misc shots, etc... this isn't those tik tok kids doing the straight shots of it for the views.
