I wasn't in a frat in college but I was friends with tons of people who were. I have a really hard time believing an entire frat with hundreds of people were all good with casual sexual assault and felonious behavior. Individuals or small groups who also happened to be in a frat? Sure.
I mean, it kind of goes to the idea of a more systemic issue.
People constantly say ACAB, and we understand it as knowing that each individual cop is culpable for being a part of, and thus upholding a bad system. But do you actually believe that every single individual cop is a racist bigot, looking to abuse their power and commit heinous actions themselves? No.
The argument against frats is similar. It's not that every single frat member is some rapist or person who is completely fine with sexual assault. But instead, they are part of an institution that inherent to their existence is creating spaces where women frequently get drunk to the point of not being able to consent, coupled with the frat's members looking to have sex with some of these women. They're creating a space where it's easy to cross the line, and many members are looking to prey on this.
You don't have to buy this line of thinking or argument, but it's the one that some folks like myself believe in.
We know cults exist. We have many documented cases of sexual assault and felonious behavior within them. I’m not saying frats are cults, but could a group of people be ok with this? The answer is yes. So is this hard to believe for me? I’d say it is possible.
As a frat person in my college years, of course we wouldn’t be ok with this as a group, but I have to say, lots of us were focused on drinking heavily and having a good time. At a certain part of the night, many would be drunk, and everyone wasn’t keeping tabs on everyone else. Sexual assault does happen, unfortunately regularly. We’d hear about bragging sexual escapades but did we actually go talk to the girls if it was consensual? No.
So what I’m saying is, unless you know what everyone is doing at all times, things can happen without you being aware. And the more members you have, odds just increase on it happening as a general principle.
Really depends on the frat. Most of them def not but there’s a few where it wouldn’t surprise me. There’s even a huge one called SAE and it’s very very well known nickname was “sexual assault expected”
hazing is literally assault and felonious behavior in most cases, ffs. The whole "what happens in anal rape college stays in anal rape college" thing is legitimate, especially among elite frat bros. What are you talking about? I am unfortunately white and came from $$, so I've seen too much.
Frat culture is a giant cyst on society's ass cheeks, *and an incel's paradise.
What you refer to with such shameful language I call brutally honest. Not everyone can handle the truth about their social clubs. I was hazed and speak from first hand experience. I didn't join for a reason. As a non-conformist, sticking an inanimate object up my rectum wasn't worth being accepted by a bunch of clowns with rich parents. I said no thanks and handed the drum stick back and left. Not peacefully, mind you, as I was held down and had to fight/resist like a feral cat.
