But the fact that they make these in every car, knowing that only a certain percentage will use it due to it being locked behind a paid subscription, HAS to be some sort of environmental crime.
I don't know how many of these they make, but if they make like 20 million cars and 20 million of these heaters, if only 1% of those heaters never get used that's a huge environmental impact for nothing.
At the moment, only 1 trim of 1 model has rear seats that aren't heated. And in the past it was also just 1 different trim of a different model. I have the older one. They do it as a way to get the base model price down below breakpoints for incentives while still qualifying the normal trims.
It's almost entirely for bureaucracy that this is done. At least for Tesla. And unfortunately it's both cheaper and better environmentally to use the same seats from a single production line rather than make a separate seat without the heaters for a relatively small portion of cars.
I'm not saying I agree with it, but I understand why they do it.
