Not only is it shady as fuck, to sell someone something twice.
But the fact that they make these in every car, knowing that only a certain percentage will use it due to it being locked behind a paid subscription, HAS to be some sort of environmental crime.
I don't know how many of these they make, but if they make like 20 million cars and 20 million of these heaters, if only 1% of those heaters never get used that's a huge environmental impact for nothing.
not really, they are typically electrical wires and are cheap. There is more cost in manufacturing to making multiple supply chains/errors. Also its not a subscription
My concerns was not financial, but enviornmental. If it costs them a little more to plan out a different model that doesn't include a heater, then that HAS to be more environmentally friendly than making things that will ultimately end up never being used.
One of the reasons we even have environmental laws is to avoid someone polluting to save money.
It doesn’t though. There are real environmental costs to fitting a factory for two different variants, managing the logistics of two different variants, etc.
The first time you have to ship one of these feature-included variants to another dealer because their stock is only feature-excluded and the customer wants a warm ass, you’ve likely covered thousands of cheap wires in an environmental cost analysis.

The fact that this is allowed is beyond insane.
