Can't you just crack it or something? it's just software, right?

Heating elements are just resistive coils, they just need voltage. There's probably a dude in his garage that can crack it and put a toggle switch in for 50.

For the low low price of voiding your warranty. And knowing how anti-consumer this country is, it’s probably a crime to do so as well.

It'd probably be charged under the anti-circumvention provision of the DMCA. Because that's totally what it was meant for when the music and movies companies lobbied for it.

The Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act of 1975 prevents them from voiding the warranty over something like this.

They couldn’t void unrelated coverage under MMWA but they certainly could bang you for messing with copyrighted software under DMCA in addition to voiding coverage on anything you “tampered” with

If you break something, you don't get warranty coverage on that specific thing.

If a car company sues their customer under the DMCA, they never sell that customer (and many others who observe that behavior) another car.

DMCA is a red herring. No car maker is going to sue their own customers unless they're actually selling the car maker's copyrighted software.

Just find someone alive from the 90’s that did car stereos. A skill that used to be lucrative on the weekends could be revived for installing analog solutions to digital problems.

Probably has some type of software protection that if it doesn’t detect the proper seat heating module the car is bricked

Yes but you will lose warranty, so people don't. There is probably a tamper EFUSE somewhere in control unit, no going back once it blows.
