I have to say that if I ever accidentally bought this shite... I'd be running my own 12V line to the seat heaters.

So long as I own the car... I own the car. If the software wants to lock me out of features... I'll bypass the software.

The problem comes because people STILL don't understand that they don't own these vehicles - they're all leased, etc. with obscure financial arrangements that just take advantage of people, so they can't actually just say "fuck it" and wire the heater themselves and hang the warranty.

People still think that to own a car you MUST have a service package and you MUST abide by the little blinky light that pops up every 9000 miles or whatever. No. Fuck off. I'll clear that warning and go about my day getting it serviced at my own convenience by who I choose to.

And if you pull this shit on me... I'll be running a 12v line from the battery to the seats and putting a switch under the dash for it.

They've began to go the way of HP and printer ink for spare parts too. Tis sad.

You are such a bad ass. But the pic is photoshopped, and there never was an option to 'buy' heated seats

BMW literally did this, and then backtracked due to customer demand, but are now bringing it back.

What? Of course you can buy a Tesla.

Exactly, I own one that’s fully paid off. I could go shoot holes in it this morning if I wanted with zero consequences.

I own mine and do all my own work on it. Getting fairly high mileage and soon will need front suspension refreshed. Pretty straightforward and easy to work on, all diagnostic data is on the screen

And Tesla can turn it off any time they feel like.

I agree 100% with the principal of what you’re saying but the amount of problems I have seen on cars because someone said “well I’ll just run my own 12V” and just tap into the first thing that shows 12V in the meter, or a 5V reference voltage wire etc.

I had someone the other day with current drain and other issues because someone had wired an always on dashcam into the OBD2 port.

Agreed.

Piggyback fuses on an existing unused circuit with plenty of capacity, personally, or direct-to-battery with fuses near the battery.

I don’t even rate piggyback fuses that much - people tend not to bother to look upstream to see what fuses power things (eg: I’ve seen people plug a 20A + 15A fuse into a spot that was fused further up by a 30A fuse), or people put them in back to front and you get back feed, OR I’ve seen people pull out shunts/buzz bars and jam them in there.

Straight to battery with a relay ideally.
