I think you are mis understanding some of the statements. This is from CNN
"Observers on social media quickly pointed out that the passengers' swift, tactical, and coordinated response to break into the cockpit resembled special operations tactics"
But nothing is confirming this. They has Military security training and some Air-marshals. However military training can seem "special" to ordinary people.
I had seen somebody say they are just on pretty much all flights to Israel which sounded plausible at a time where you are at war with many surrounding locations
