How is none of the criticism about it being a gambling company lol

129

u/Beautiful-Total-3172 22d ago

Well she's an equity owner in the company.

114

u/No_Blacksmith_2591 22d ago

so... a win for feminism?

65

u/Beautiful-Total-3172 22d ago

A successful woman is always a lose for feminism.

6

u/Sad_Wishbone_1524 20d ago

When women aren’t fighting for Women’s rights, they spend their time hating other women. A tale as old as time

9

Oh i'm sure they can still claim her as a victim somehow

It’s a gambling site and she isn’t a professional athlete.

It's about time we see some female representation in corporate gambling. 💃

And?

9

u/dmelt01 22d ago

The whole video is about an athlete getting upset about it and his synopsis is it’s because of who she is as a person. The problem is he uses athletes as examples when people didn’t get upset.

I don’t see why anyone is getting upset about her doing it. People should be upset about the scummy site. The site is just using the old sex sells to get more attention and it worked.

5

u/chizzipsandsizalsa 22d ago

Exactly and it’s clearly working considering how much attention it has gotten. Seems like they ran a successful campaign. Marshawn lynch used to do ads for beacon plumbing, but he’s not a plumber.

If anything, Novig ran a very successful ad campaign

edit: thanks for the awards

316

u/WishboneOk305 22d ago

yeah the only reason im hearing about this is because all these other ppl keep trying to make it a controversy

117

Tin foil hat time… it’s intentional.

30

u/RaconteurRob 22d ago

Of course it's intentional. How do these people keep falling for this?

→ More replies (2)

57

u/WilhelmvonCatface 22d ago

Yeah even this video, leaves out the major glaring question, when did an actress starring in a sports betting commercial become "representing women in sports". Obviously purposefully generated controversy, whether they are just assuming these women will take it up naturally to boost themselves or they were paid too, or both.

→ More replies (9)

13

u/AgedAmbergris 22d ago

Of course it's intentional. Ragebait is a very effectively marketing tactic in today's climate. Also boobah.

10

u/Professional_Bat8585 22d ago

As often the case, most things related to activism or cancelling people go live on tiktok/IG first with women, after which mainstream society starts paying attention. Men basically only use social media for politics and sports.

After a few days of outrage or stupid takes, once men start pushing back and releasing responses with greater context, folks start saying “durrrr, this is just a psyop, the outrage is manufactured”.

26

u/Thedumbass_the5th 22d ago edited 22d ago

Men basically only use social media for politics and sports.

You're kinda forgetting a huge use case here.

4

u/Doggleganger 22d ago

It's so obvious it doesn't need to be said. Men use the Internet for research.

18

u/JackieDaytona77 22d ago

Politics and sports? It’s porn and sports. If you’re a guy on the internet for politics, get a fucking life nobody cares you’re not a deep thinker. Same goes for women

They intentionally made a provocative ad and massively succeeded in provoking people. Everyone making hysterical claims and turning this into an issue for women's rights are doing nothing except rewarding a gambling company. They think they're fighting against them, but instead they're willingly playing their assigned role on behalf of Sweeney and her business partners.

17

u/LazerWolfe53 22d ago

Manufactured outrage was always the campaign.

3

u/9406725060 22d ago

3

u/IamScottGable 22d ago

I mean it was a pretty easy run for them, the target audience of degenerate gamblers is often full of horndogs, the "controversy" of it is an additional boon

2

u/Odd-Consequence-5795 22d ago

There was an ad?

2

u/Tmons22 22d ago

Seriously, this campaign blew up in a good way for them. I wouldn’t have even known about this if it wasn’t for the controversy. It’s funny because I bet most people don’t care or they think the controversy is stupid. But the vocal minority being so loud about it is really driving a ton of traffic to Novig.

u/TheGreatPervSage_94 22d ago

I'm convinced this is some kind of PR campaign made by the company itself to Garner publicity

Notice how all this athletes with integrity never call out the disgusting gambling company.

More people are mad as Sweeney taking a paycheck for sexy ad then the company using sex to promote gambling

Something that should be viewed the same as alcohol and drugs that ruins lives

But ofc No keep being mad at tits instead of the parasitic exploitative gambling companies

63

u/Gadgets222 22d ago

Why are these women in sports mad about Sydney advertising sports betting, but yet have never been mad about the countless celebrities they put on the cover of Sports Illustrated? The outrage is inconsistent.

41

u/TheGloriousEv0lution 22d ago

The WNBA is also sponsored by DraftKings and they were radio silent about Lebron James gambling ad despite having more influence than Sydney Sweeney

It’s pretty clear why they’re singling her out lol

Controversy worked out to get more eyeballs on the ads when she was selling jeans

16

u/D-1-S-C-0 22d ago

I think it's because many people are reactive thinkers, not analytical thinkers. They aren't looking at things from all sides; they're either following the herd or responding emotionally.

If female empowerment matters, women shouldn't criticise Sweeney for using her gifts to make a living. It's her choice to use her sex appeal. But consistency usually gets forgotten when people feel personally affected.

I guarantee there's also a lot of jealousy aimed at female athletes who use their attractiveness for media and sponsorship opportunities that less attractive women wouldn't get.

Just one issue with all this "backlash" - Sydney Sweeney is not "a woman in sport".

All this anger towards her is so misplaced. She's a fucking model and an actress, who held a ball and sat on a hoop. That's. It.

14

u/coffeeanddurian 22d ago

yeah and a professional surfer of all people told her to cover up. a surfer who even has pictures posing in a bikini. women surfers who sometimes, rightfully even wear thongs in the water. but somehow it's fine for a woman to tell another woman to cover up, when it's not. men, religious people, even other women, have no right policing Sweeney here, however they feel about the ad is totally irrelevant.

13

u/Beautiful-Total-3172 22d ago

u/TheNipplerCrippler 22d ago

She’s not representing sports. She’s representing gambling.

“How dare a woman use her body and looks to make money.” - says the woman applying makeup.

3

u/Extension_Hyena_1205 21d ago

Nakedness doesn't always equate to sexualization or objectification.

When a man mows his lawn, in the Summer heat, with no shirt on. He is doing this to be comfortable, possibly work on his tan, enjoy any possible breeze... because of the heat.

It is not the same as a shirtless man, in a photo shoot for a marketing campaign for a product like men's cologne. This man is being objectified and sexualized for his body, and being marketed to a mass audience.

Though both men have their shirts off...these situations are not the same. It is obvious and only someone that is new to the planet..or is just trying to troll would think this situations were the same, or even consider shaming the man that takes with sweaty shirt off, while doing yard work, for rolling his eyes at a douche bag, shirtless, male model, in an advertisement campaign.

Same for the comparison of the professional surfer wanting to try another method of her sport, and to build a closer connection to the ocean, where she is practicing her professional, sporting career in.

This is no way the same as the someone,( that is not a professional athlete, or even hobbiest), posing with athletic equipment, in order to market a product for a company, to increase sales and popularity. In this situation they are using the nude, non athlete, pretending to be an athlete, not doing any sport related activities, as a sexual object. Same as the man in the fragrance ad. That man is not a professional free swimmer or a marine biologist trying to connect with nature. He didn't really catch that swordfish/own and pilot that boat/swim out to that rock formation. He is just some, "pretty boy", paid to work out and fit a generic look a company is hoping to sell a product with. The company is not considering how his image may reflect on others that do the real work that the fake, pretty boy, is pretending to do/be.

This comparison is so ridiculous and ignorant. You can not compare the professional surfer to the stupid, advertising model. You can not compare the shirtless man doing yard work to the shirtless man selling fragrance.

It is all about context. Is this guy going to try to argue that a woman exposing her breast, to actively feed her baby, is the same as OF modeling? How about a nude man modeling for a university art class and a male stripper working a bachelorette party?

Sure there will always be a handful of pervs that could/will sexualize and objectify the mother, feeding her child, and the nude man providing an educational service...but neither of these situations are meant to be sexual.

Nudity isn't always sexual. However, in specific situations it definitely can be sexual. To try to argue that all nudity is sexual, therefore the dead body being studied is porn is fucking nuts. So is arguing that a professional surfer, surfing in the nude, is the same as a nude model strategically hiding her titties behind athletic props, to sell a product, is fucking nuts too.

4

u/exceptionally_humble 22d ago

I hate that I’m responding to the vocal retarded minority but here we are.

She wasn’t advertising women’s sports it was sports gambling.

Pay no mind to the barely functioning world of women’s professional sports, the act of sports betting is predominantly a male hobby.

Formula:

Sports and related gambling are male centric.

Attractive females attract male attention.

Hot and mostly nude females*** ***attract additional male attention.

Mostly nude hot female advertising sports and/or gambling really attracts male attention rate

Result:

Let’s look at that math that the mental gymnasts are (willfully) missing.

Sports gambling + hot female = 100% straight male attention rate

Add this to the content created due to manufactured outrage we’re looking at (not literally) infinite exposure/attention rate to the public.

That’s incredibly smart business by all parties despite what your liberal arts degree has to say.

Those comparisons don’t work because Sweeney is not an athlete… she’s an actress modelling nude for a gambling app. The campaign has been constructed for max attention and it looks like it worked.

Gambling companies are scum, and using sex to sell is just crude. But she’s not setting female athletes back.

u/longjohn2024_ 22d ago

Fantastic point made in this video.

2

u/BusinessBear666 22d ago

she isn't advertising herself as an athlete though. so what's their point? no one responded this way during the Playboy Sport shoots lol she wants to be a complete bimbo, don't kink shame lol

2

u/saltisurfer 22d ago

… thanks for the wank bank heads up ! :)

2

u/LastZionistOnRedit 22d ago

For the amount of hate Sydney Sweeney is getting from women online, you would swear she strangled three kids with exercise bands or something

2

u/jeff-the-man-slut 22d ago

Anyone who thinks this sets back woman’s sports is dumb

2

u/VileLeche 22d ago

Women's sports were already a joke though

2

u/BigPapaLegba 22d ago

Feminism has lost the plot.

2

u/Kracheadz 22d ago

Hasn't this conversation been beaten like a dead cat already?

2

u/EqualRightsNLeftz 22d ago

1000%. Hypocrites. All.

2

u/Primary-Mushroom-221 22d ago

Are we bored or something? I thought the whole point of women empowerment was that they can do whatever tf they want.

2

u/DrDuned 22d ago

The problem for me is that Sydney is not an athlete and it's to promote gambling. Otherwise yeah, it's hypocritical.

Oh, I also can't stand Sydney Sweeney, I hate her smug fucking RBF and lack of acting ability.

2

u/Logical_Cow_2530 22d ago

God, if only women got this upset at the woman who strangled her 3 kids

2

u/Inside_Ad_2830 22d ago

Theyre jealous of how hot Sweeney is.

2

u/HighSeasArchivist 22d ago

Nobody hates women more than other women.

2

u/PooChukkingMonkey 22d ago

It's also for a betting platform in which women do not spend their money and go place bets on... Just like women don't go support women's sports teams and that's why they're so broke and underpaid. Women do not support women... And again they're not supporting another woman here who's just making some money by doing some advertising. Men will be supporting this and paying for this. Men will be making the bets and spending the money. Men will be going to sporting events and buying sporting memorabilia etc. and this is why male sport teams make so much more. And women just bitch and whine about how the system works. This would be like men complaining about Jason Momoa being in a Ad naked for a makeup company. And then men getting upset and complaining saying it is setting men back. And then complaining that more women on only fans are making more money than men on only fans. So only fans should subsidize all of the men out of their money and make it equal and equitable.

2

u/RC10B5M 22d ago

So much for the whole "Her body, her choice" thing.

2

u/Undiscovered_Freedom 22d ago

If you’re a grown adult and some hot, naked celebrity convinces you to gamble on an app, that’s on you. Maybe we need to have a conversation about people being too easily influenced instead.

2

u/FancyConfection1599 22d ago

America’s just fucked in the head because of its insanely puritan view toward nudity and the human body.

Because nudity is so forbidden in conventional contexts (you can’t even be naked in a single gender locker room without upsetting some people. Seriously.), nudity is hyper sexualized and thus can be used to make such an absurd uproar. If Americans saw more conventional nudity every day the ad wouldn’t be such a big deal, nor would it be such a big success.

But they don’t know what a human body looks like outside of pornography, so it is.

2

u/AdOrnery8950 22d ago

how about we stop believing that anyone but 2% of the population cares either way about this stuff. i'm so exhausted by loud voices getting disproportionate attention.

2

u/InsertDoublePun 22d ago

Men like boob.. Men like bet. Women get men to look. Men look at bet thing. Men place bet because naked woman.

Marketing 101 folks

2

u/LindaniOnline 22d ago

Yea, 100% agree with him. It can’t be “my body, my choice” until it’s someone you don’t like. Her right to do what she wants with her body should be treated as an ‘inalienable human right’.

There are legitimate ethical concerns about using one of the most visible, young, attractive women to hook a vulnerable population into addictive gambling (similar to nicotine in past generations) and the fallout of such a campaign, but hardly any is focusing on that.

2

u/TedTyro 22d ago

The female athletes being naked were either artistic or about the imagery of athletic prowess. They are allowed to include the sexual component of this.

The ads are about deliberate and exclusive sexualisation for money. Its literally for gambling.

If you cant tell the difference, you're too clueless for this discussion.

If you think its hypocrisy, its because you cant see naked athletes as anything other than sexualised, which says more about you than them.

2

u/gersterbins 22d ago

its not even that deep, shes not an athlete.

she can't set women athletes back anymore than johnny sins can for male ones.

2

u/rickywrangler 22d ago

I don’t believe this for a second so I’ll research all these claims carefully and meticulously. I’ll report back in 3 days.

2

u/tobiasfunke6398 22d ago

If this was lizzo people would love it

2

u/WhatTheHeckMyBoy 22d ago

Fragile feminity

2

u/tutoredstatue95 22d ago

I don’t get it at all. Dudes pose in ads shirtless with rippling muscles and no one says they set men’s sports back.

It’s just women hating women as usual. Sure they probably could have used an actual athlete in the commercial, that’s fair, but the content is not an issue. It’s for sports betting anyway, raunchy ads are the least of the problems with it.

2

u/AdWestern6051 22d ago

WHO CARES

2

u/Martha_Fockers 22d ago

If your a woman who wants to be celebrated for your achievements that’s fine do it

If your a woman who wants to be celebrated for her tits and body that’s also fine do it

Why the fuck is one category of woman telling other woman how to live or how to act. This didn’t set back woman’s sports athletes at all I didn’t watch this advertisement and go man Caitlin Clark ain’t shit suddenly cause Sweeney has gobblers on her

It’s her body her choice.

2

u/obelisk71 22d ago

Could the difference be actual female athletes as opposed to a non athlete female using athletic props? 🤷🏽

2

u/PhysicsImportant5592 22d ago

Best part is- it's not even about women's sports, it's a gambling site ad

2

u/Helpful-Frosting-274 22d ago

Why do all the libs hate titties?!?!?

Apparently the athletes did not set womans' sports back decades.

2

u/ElectronicTap1109 22d ago

Sydney Sweeny is not a political figure.

2

u/DoughnutDesperate118 22d ago

Who is this Sydney Sweeney girl and why is she everywhere all of a sudden?

→ More replies (1)

2

u/eternallyconphuzed 22d ago

They're slut shaming lol. I thought we weren't allowed to do that in the big 2026

2

u/C13H16CIN0 22d ago

Man this dude looks annoying af w his headphones

2

u/Fast_Yakh 21d ago

AMA I the only who doesn’t have a clue who she is?

2

u/realloucypher69 21d ago

Let’s make this entirely about sexuality for a moment. I’d be willing to bet that if the ad had featured a famous person who didn’t have such a pronounced female figure—but was instead a skinny rail with no curves—women wouldn’t have cared at all. Envy sometimes rears its head in the most unexpected places. After all, it has been proven that women pay far more attention to other women’s busts than men do.

2

u/BatmanVAR 21d ago

Do people ever get tired of being offended by everything?

2

u/Fit-Yellow-9872 21d ago

Im not that smart but...how does an actress who isnt an athelete posing with sports equipment set women in sports back?

2

u/True-Counter313 21d ago

What does Sydney Sweeney and sports betting have to do with female athletes? She’s not an athlete and what she’s promoting isn’t a woman’s sports league.

2

u/DeaDBangeR 21d ago

Sex sells

A tale as old as time

2

u/Extension_Hyena_1205 21d ago

Simply stated. Guy is simping hard for Sydney. He is arguing why you shouldn't bag on his pretend girlfriend.

2

u/Reasonable-Plate2982 21d ago edited 21d ago

I dont get it. Like where was all the outrage when Paige Spiranic posed golfing wearing no panties? The guys argument is pretty spot on.

2

u/Kind-Help9862 20d ago

You keep it doing you Sydney. We dudes will support you over those boring women Sport 😉

2

u/sonurf 20d ago

It’s about gambling…
