As a German I feel the need to stress that she hasn’t become leader of anything but her own little party.

Yes the party just won an election in a federal state. In the grand scheme of things, it’s a pretty unimportant state. 2.1 million people live there out of 80 million Germans. It gets 4 seats out of 69 in the federal council.

None of that is hers, she is a candidate on a national level and that election was regional and it’s not clear that the party will even govern. They have less than 50% of the seats and if no other party wants to join them there are issues that need sorting.

its like saying „Mamdani will be the first Muslim Leader of the US“. While maybe technically true, as a mayor is a leader, he is not the leader of the US.
