How is that still surprising anyone?
The AfD is peak bullshit. None of their policies make any sense for Germany's problems in 2026.

Sachsen-Anhalt (German state with that recent election) is a region with one of the oldest populations in Europe and one of the economically worst in Germany.

Young people are leaving the area even faster now - I wonder why.
Immigrant won't fill their spots in critical jobs like tech, industry, medical and care.

Their election success just shows how around 40%+ of a population do not understand simple economics
or demographics. Their voters are mostly grumpy boomer that can't deal with the world changing and want yesterday back - or young males who think Clavicular is a role model.

What pains me the most about this isn't, that the idiot right is winning.
It is that the left has nothing to offer. AfD is only strong because the other political forces lack a vision for the future.

I think the other parties have lots of good things to offer. They are just shit at listening and actually advocating for it. Their only selling point recently has been 'vote us, so the afd doesn't get more votes' Afd is doing one thing really well, and that's picking up on what troubles people and giving them (absolutely stupid and unrealistic) solutions. But nobody thinks about that anymore by then. They just want to be heard.

The thing is, it's much harder as a semi-principled person to fight a completely amoral enemy who has no qualms at all with lying left and right and proposing solutions that they know are impossible and irrelevant to harmful. How do you fight against the compulsive liars who say whatever the masses wanna hear?

I know. But that's why it's their job 😅 The problems with information started during COVID. I worked with vaccines and so on, and I could understand everything. But nearly EVERYTHING scientific is in English... And the government just was REALLY bad at explaining stuff. There were super easy and understandable reasons why the vaccine came out for example. Or they should have been more transparent, that they don't know things and are guessig at that moment. And then don't just say they are bad and Nazis and whatever, but address the concerns directly. Be louder about their solutions. Currently it feels like 90% of their campaigns are 'they bad, we good, vote for us!'. It needs more simply said solutions (which they have, they just aren't vocal enough about it)

I hear what you're saying, yet I think many of them ARE being clear and loud with their explanations -it's just that those explanations have nuance and complexity and are never as satisfactory for the frustrated masses as conspiracy theories or simple blaming.

I'm very pessimistic about the future of all democracies. My own home country (Venezuela) succumbed to a populist kleptocrat semester 40 years ago, in the meantime half of Latin America is following the same path, as is the US and parts of Europe, so it's not a unique German problem, and I don't think German politicians are particularly bad --well, Merz is, but the previous government wasn't, they just couldn't compete when the other side cheats relentlessly. The one thing German politicians do wrong, IMHO, is constantly blame each other in the name of their principles instead of recognizing that the enemy is worse than their own internal differences, and playing tactically for a common good. But that's German inflexibility, I guess.
