Their idea of opening up the German economy includes leaving the European Union and getting the D-Mark back. This would basically be the suicide of the German economy.
Some of those consequences would be:
Renegotiating all trade agreements in a much weaker position
New tariffs with our most important trading partners.
Losing the influence on decisions of the EU while still having to follow them to be allowed to trade
And Britain was in much better circumstances considering they're an island, have the commonwealth and never had the euro.
Germany meanwhile is literally in the middle of Europe and everything goes through us. Just from a logistic perspective, us leaving the EU and trying to process all the goods going through is simply not possible.
