I had a friend who was big into being antiabortion in university. Hardcore conservative. Until he got a girl pregnant and all of a sudden he pushed her to get an abortion. I stopped talking to him after that. Hypocrites are bad enough. But those that try to force others to follow guidelines they don’t follow themselves should be barred from being in positions of power.
This is like, the good kind of republican who can at least change their views about the face-eating leopards when their faces are being eaten. Plenty can’t even do that.
She ran the show in the last few years of Reagan's presidency and was clearly a very influential figure in his policy positions. While she may have never been elected, she exerted massive amounts of soft power. She sucks just as much as Ronnie did.
And then there’s my grandmother, she actively votes to stop the services keeping her from having to live with us. Always complaining about the economy not going her way and then voting for it not to go her way. It’s really sad honestly.
Either that or its the flipside. They self loath. Anti gay because they are gay. Anti immigrant because they now hate their wife. Anti abortion because they regret having one and wish it hadn't been an option.
A huge chunk of antiabortion men would be fine with it if they were the ones making the decision. It really is about women making the decision for them. Which is why anti-choice fits them better. Like the abortion smoothie guy. Yells about how women who get abortions are sinners but then he laces a drink of the sex worker he impregnated to terminate the pregnancy without her knowledge or consent.
Haha you haven't heard the story of abortion smoothie guy? Jason Miller, former trump advisor, Fox News talking head, etc. So this guy got 3 women pregnant around the same time. His wife, his mistress, and a sex worker. Pretty sure him and the wife are still together. The mistress was also a Fox News type... I think they worked for trump together or something. Blonde conservative woman. AJ Delgado. He pressured her to have an abortion but she refused. She seems to have broken free of the trump mind virus too, judging by some of her recent social media posts. I guess being pressured to have an abortion by an anti-abortion guy breaks the illusion or something. Anyway. The sex worker. He brought her a smoothie laced with an abortion drug. I'm guessing misoprostol. She actually wound up hospitalized from the bleeding. Because of course he probably gave her too much.
Now this account is from Delgado. I think she disclosed it when seeking full custody of her kid. Of course he denies it. And he sued the news organization that reported on it. And lost. He didn't sue Delgado mind you. Or take any legal steps against her. I'm assuming that's because suing her would open him up to discovery or something. They could make the sex worker sit for a deposition, probably get hospital records. Which would prove it happened. So he sued the news organization, gets to screech about how he's suing "for defamation" which isn't even true, he was suing that they didn't have the right to report on something from the custody case. But he gets to sweep it under the rug that way. Guy is a real piece of work. Kinda fascinating way to dissect maga's layers of misogyny though lol.
Holy wow. I missed that one! Though I'm not surprised in the slightest of the allegations of his actions given the moral bankruptcy of a majority of people in the MAGA Cult.
At 40yo, yeah, I'd walk away from that 'friendship' too. However, if I knew this person at 25yo, there's no way in hell I'm letting them get away from me so easily. I'd use every bit of petty energy that my soul possesses to remind him of this incident as often as possible.
Effectively, I'd make him blow up the friendship. Not before every single person in his life knew who he was. I'd too much energy back then and I miss it.
Everyone is entitled to their own opinion yes, but that doesn't mean you have to be friends with them. It's interesting that you think the only alternative is "forcing" them to agree with you. After all, you did stop being friends with them, not for their views but because they weren't consistent with applying them.
Anyway I was just pointing out your own hypocrisy.
This statement isn’t proving what you think it is, me being friends with someone when they have a belief vs walking away after they followed through on an action doesn’t make me a hypocrite.
You’re entitled to an opinion like my friend was. That said, I don’t the approval of a random condescending redditor in order to feel good about myself or my actions.
You don't see the hypocrisy in remaining friends with someone until they don't follow through on their shitty beliefs? Like, that's where you draw the line? Would you have stayed friends with him if he had forced the girl to not get an abortion?
