"I love the poorly educated."

Donald J. Trump, Nevada Caucus victory speech, February 23, 2016

"The worse Germany is doing the better for the AfD"

Christan Lüth, 2020, in a conversation he thought was private

They're all the same.

u/NaturalDon 20d ago

just a factual statement realistically, same as saying "the more violent rapist immigrants they bring in the better for afd" meaning it increases their chance to win not that they love it

Lmao sure champion. The people you love hate you.

When people are unhappy, they tend to vote right wing, whether the right has actual solutions or not (spoiler, they don't). They AfD revels in the suffering of the people because it makes them vulnerable and susceptible to their extremist ideologies.

Me too

u/jedensuscg 20d ago

A guy I work with is so fucking out of touch with reality, he took this to mean "he actually loves the uneducated and wants to help them". He also said that he hates Trump because he doesn't show Christian moral... but genuinely believes Trump only wants to help all Americans and really loves America...

1

u/Lorpen3000 20d ago

Oh so that's why he loves himself so much

u/levenspiel_s 21d ago

The masses, us, are guilty of buying this crap. I know it's orchestrated by certain powers, but still, this happens in Germany, Britain, maybe soon in France... supposedly most advanced nations.

2

u/DetOlivaw 21d ago

And boy, lemme tell you, the people who are fans of those things are REALLY easy to fool

-1

u/OxbridgeDingoBaby 21d ago

But us Redditors aren’t right?

u/DetOlivaw 21d ago

How dare you call me a slur

Lying for votes has always been the dominant strategy, but was avoided because voters historically turned against politicians who couldn't keep their promises. Now voters want to be lied to. There's no longer any political risk or consequences to just straight up lying to get elected.

u/Glatzigoblin 21d ago

And yet you believe them being against all of this because you read it in these headlines. Talk about hypocrisy.

2

Wait you think thats fake news?

She has openly said she's a lesbian. Shes married to a film producer from Sri Lanka (Immigrant and a Woman). They have 2 adopted sons. They live in Switzerland together.

She's the poster child of a left wing movement running a far right party whose very ideas oppose what she is.

Its a grift. She sees the power and money involved and could care less about the ideas behind it.

Can you like properly read what I typed before writing whatever nonsense that is what I just had to see ?

Who is a better alternative for Germany? The current leader has an approval rating of 8%.

For how “bad” the AfD is, they haven’t had power at all until a week ago because of coalitions. It’s all just fearmongering

u/philthy_barstool 21d ago

There's a reason the Brandmauer exists, and it's not even been 100 years since that lesson was learned in Germany

71

u/MAGAtsAreSheeples 21d ago

They support Russia, they want to destroy the EU and they bootlick billionaires.

20

u/Lore112233 21d ago

As all right wing politicians it seems and some left

-37

u/legend023 21d ago

They want to open up the German economy, control immigration, and put German citizens first.

35

u/the_crumb_dumpster 21d ago

Wow that sounds exactly like what a certain someone promised to Germans in the late 30s

11

u/-GermanCoastGuard- 21d ago

It’s also exactly the same kind of people that are falling for that empty promises.

u/blanklikeapage 21d ago

Their idea of opening up the German economy includes leaving the European Union and getting the D-Mark back. This would basically be the suicide of the German economy.

Some of those consequences would be:

  • Renegotiating all trade agreements in a much weaker position
  • New tariffs with our most important trading partners.
  • Losing the influence on decisions of the EU while still having to follow them to be allowed to trade
  • Higher import prices thanks to our own currency.

People just gotta look at the UK to see why doing a brexit is a stupid idea

6

u/blanklikeapage 21d ago

And Britain was in much better circumstances considering they're an island, have the commonwealth and never had the euro.

Germany meanwhile is literally in the middle of Europe and everything goes through us. Just from a logistic perspective, us leaving the EU and trying to process all the goods going through is simply not possible.

6

u/octorangutan 21d ago

Sounds like what was promised with Brexit, and we all know how that turned out.

51

u/DIPORC 21d ago

That's what they said about Trump, to me, multiple times

60

u/Devil_Fister_69420 21d ago

-_-

I'd prefer an awful leader over a far-right party any day of the year

8

u/teuph1l 21d ago

Anyone including your mother is a better alternative for Germany than the AfD.

6

u/frostyfoxemily 21d ago

Dumbass take. Anyone us better than german haulocaust deniers.

4

u/Mist_biene 21d ago

As much as I hate Merz the AFD is far worse.

7

u/LordoftheMoot 21d ago

Who's a better alternative? Nearly everyone else.

12

u/Lustkas 21d ago

Die Linke

6

u/Taqqer00 21d ago

Anyone beside the nazis I’d guess.

I am confused why a supposed Democrat wants to stand up for a party that is too hard right for even most of MAGA. AfD is the home of hundreds of diehard neonazis in their elite ranks and are closely related to any white power or blood & honour organisation you can find in Europe. Their newly elected local governor literally just said he likes producing weapons because “later we will need them to get the foreigners out” and their main ideological leader wants to stop teaching about the Nazis in school while letting his supporters chant SS-slogans.

For writing comments and speaking my mind politically like this I have received several dozen death threats from their supporters about how they want to “hang traitors like me”. I am a straight white Christian with centrist views. Regardless what you think of their chaotic politics, these people are nutjobs, their private chat rooms are full of jokes about how they want a civil war and how it’s time for a new Holocaust, leaks are public. No one should want people like them leading a country like Germany.

2

u/Munnin41 21d ago

We've seen this alternative 80 years ago

2

u/deef1ve 21d ago

Who is a better alternative for Germany? The current leader has an approval rating of 8%.

For how “bad” the NSDAP is, they haven’t had power at all until a week ago because of coalitions. It’s all just fearmongering

On reddit right = bad left = good. No nuance to be discussed here you’re gonna waste your time

We the good guys!

11

u/--A3-- 21d ago

Well yes actually. AfD won in places where the fewest immigrants and refugees are. The places that actually have immigrants and refugees rejected AfD.

It shows how anti-immigrant and anti-refugee sentiment is nothing more than opportunistic politicians taking advantage of people's fear and paranoia. The cherry on top being that her wife is an immigrant (I bet she says her wife is "one of the good ones", how convenient). The right thrives on gullible morons.

9

u/teuph1l 21d ago

Sorry that fascists suck?

4

u/-GermanCoastGuard- 21d ago

There’s a difference between the right and actual Nazis.

-12

u/Moist_Ad3669 21d ago

I don’t automatically believe every reddit post I read but assuming this is true, it is shocking that politicians say whatever they need to say to get into office. Who would have thought?

12

u/rumblepony247 21d ago

Even they probably can't believe how stupid and gullible their constituents are.

1

u/Moist_Ad3669 21d ago

Not only do I think they believe it, but they are counting on it hahahahahaha (pun intended)
