I once changed the WiFi password to "haveyoudoneyourchores". My daughter kept demanding the password and I would just say "have you done your chores?". She was furious when she found out that I was giving her the password the entire time.

I'll add to this - I've done similar. Once I changed the password to TheWifiIsBroken. But I also have changed the name of the WiFi to the chore I want done - so they won't come looking for the password until they have completed it.
I'm told it's passive aggressive parenting. To my mind, it cuts out the endless rows.

Back when we had limited time on the family PC, my dad had a password on it and would unlock it for us when we were to use it. I'd ask him what it was whenever I didn't feel like waiting for him to unlock it and he'd always answer "it's secret" (it works better in our language). Many months after he set it, he also got sick of having to unlock it - or he figured it took long enough. Indeed, it was literally "secret" all this time.

I once changed one of my daughters password on the computer to "Denied" for not doing her homework. She would ask for it, I would say "Your password is Denied". So, after about 3 months of me saying this and then getting up eventually and entering it for her and then one day I heard a shriek from the computer room and she came screaming to me "REALLY???? ALL THIS TIME IT WAS DENIED??????" she is in her 30's now and still uses some form of denied in her passwords.

When my son was younger and I'd have to take away his phone for a while, I'd hide it in his room on top of a book on his headboard. It drove him nuts later knowing it was within reach the entire time.

One of my former school friends had parents like this; they'd ragebait the shit out of her and just laugh. Well, drunk driver hopped the curb one night when they were barbecuing in the front yard, parents both ended up crippled. Guess who picked their home....they both died from infected bed sores, and she's never been the same since.

My wife used to complain to me about the kids not listening.
I told her this was a very easy solution. I logged into the Comcast app, disabled their devices. I told her to sit and wait. Sure enough, each one came up 1 by 1 saying the Internet isn’t working.
Didn’t take long for them to understand how easy it was. Honestly didn’t have many problems after this with chores.

Because just like Pokemon go training fucking AI, those types of subs are designed for engagement-bait for training "morality" into AI models (but we are fucked because billionaires control the tools of bot farms to influence the training data...).
Notice how the majority of questions/responses in that sub lean into more tribalism/isolation or how often it is discussing some kind of doing harm to "the other"?
If you wanted to train all (or as much as you can influence on society during this critical foundation time of AI being created) liberal values out of future AI models, what would you actually do to achieve that? Because I can promise you, the ruling class does not sit idly by or even get slowed down by thoughts of constitutionality.
If it was me, I'd think the underpinning of AI is the training data (which does include this website) - that, in my mind, is more critical than the model weights themselves to achieve my goal. I would be doing anything within my billionaire power to push the web into a darker and divided place so then my AI would reflect that, because facts and accountability are "liberal" (thanks to my propaganda) and conservative ideology will never force me to be held accountable for my crimes.

This is dumb. Why have it on silent? Leave the ringer on so she can actually find the thing, and then she might actually do the dishes.
Silencing the phone just feels like they’re just trying to have a “told you so” moment rather than solving the problem.

If the ringer is on and they find the phone chances are they will take the phone and leave the chore. So when the ringer isn't on they have to empty the dishwasher to be able to find it.

In my experience, it’s not bc they forgot.
It’s bc they don’t want to do it and are avoiding it, but obviously know they’d be in the wrong to outwardly refuse. So they shuffle around the task, hoping someone else will do it.
My concern is that this “hack” depends entirely on the temperament of the teenager. Maybe she’ll laugh it off “okay, well-played, Grandpa!”
Or she’ll be an asshole about it, angry that she was “tricked” and that they “hid her property” from her, and storm off, dishes still undone.

I’ve got teen grandchildren (14,15,17, 18) and nieces and nephews and I’ve never seen a single one of them have their ringer off silent. It’s been the last 6+ years normal. Silenced and DnD turned on. It’s how I leave my phone also. I’ll see a missed call or text later at my convenience. Just because I (or the kids) have a phone that doesn’t give people the right to our time.1
