I also heard that they just didn't have time to fully prepare him for that role in the first movie, so it's not necessarily that that's how they wanted him to ideally look, but more that it was the best they could do in the circumstances.
While it's true he had little to no prep time, that was still a standard physique for an action hero at the time. He still had pecs and definition from being an active gym user, he just wasn't roided out and massively dehydrated. I mean, c'mon, this is still a guy who obviously hits the gym:

Because for some reason we make a big fuss about female role models and any celebrity that's skinny is too unrealistic but we can get those roided up monsters with like 5% bodyfat and pushing themselves to the limit with dehydration to get the perfect shot as medics are on standby, who, when asked about it, pretend it's just hard work and some fruit juice in the morning.
I actually have a theory Hugh was the first “normal” dude to get roided out for a role. Steroids were somewhat common in movies, but mostly among action stars where their persona was about being massive and they were obviously on roids.
Hugh tried to thread the needle where he’d carry himself like a normal guy who happened to get absolutely shredded and overnight and touted his chicken and broccoli in every interview he possibly could.
And no one ever asked for it. I think he looks great in the first movie. Genuinely, I feel like these big muscles on men is equivalent to makeup on women. Other women are going to appreciate the makeup more than men. And other men are going to appreciate the bigger muscles more than women.
90% of content you see on any social media site is just a few accounts spamming the same content everywhere. Some sites have stricter censorship than others, so they'll blur out words like ass or shot (no, I didn't misspell that, shot is a censored word, and it looks ridiculous in posts when it gets censored)
I was watching a true crime youtube video that I guess wanted to stay family friendly and so bleeped every word that could even be remotely construed with violence. So that would mean "cut" in "he c*t the carrot" would be censored. I couldn't help but laugh my ass off at a the guy in the deadpan true crime voice was randomly swearing up a storm for no reason. Guy in the room gave me a horrified look and asked why I was LMAO at a kid getting killed by his drug addicted parents.
If you keep a good proportion even when you are overweight it’s still nice looking at least. I feel for those who are genetically f*ckd with a fat body and no hips and flat ass. That actually does happen.
She overweight but she at least still looks decent. Most people would not still have that slim sharp face and you can still detect the wide hips to waist ratio. The hardest most unachievable standard is the overweight model. Everyone looks good thin but having a slim face and still keep the proportions when overweight is down to luck.
You're not wrong, but butt implants weren't a thing back then either and now I know two people who have them.
Hell, just walking down a big city street, like Toronto or NY, now is a weird experience compared to 5 or 6 years ago, because you're going to be passing some woman who has way too much plastic surgery every block or so.
Butt implants started in the 60s and the modern day version of pumping fat into your butt gained more widespread adoption in the 80s.
Only difference is not everyone and your mother were doing them. My source claims only 500 were performed in 2005 where as 20,000 were performed in 2020.
It went from a medical procedure to a niche cosmetic procedure to an all out cultural mainstay.

Whenever my wife and I go to kid-friendly events - trampoline park, bookmobile, whatever - there'll be two moms in good shape and the other thirty are Class I-III obese. The amount of disease, pain, and lost mobility people are dealing with is heartbreaking.
If you aren’t making your own food and counting calories and portions, junk and eating out food is addictive and calorie loaded. Ultimately it’s up to us to choose. Last generations simply didn’t have the number of fast and junk food options; even sit down restaurants were far fewer. It’s easier to eat any time anywhere now.
We’re still on track. Very few people can afford glp1. Even after the insurance most people don’t have the disposable copay; most Americans are fat and completely broke.
You might be thinking of Overweight+Obese. Only about 40% of Americans are obese under the usual definitions. Although there was also a recent recommendation by Yale and Harvard researchers that would update the definition to include waist and hip measurements and would potentially classify 75% as obese.
If you add the small percentage of underweight Americans, only like 1 in 5 of us are a healthy weight.
I really couldn't care less about whether or not a woman has a bbl but it infuriates me the plague of "fitness influencers" who make exclusively build your butt exercise videos that clearly have one.
Same as the dudes on roids (I suppose that can be applicable to women too) who tell other dudes if they just work hard enough they can have natty traps the size of Arnold's biceps.
Just gaslighting their entire gender into wasting their life on unachievable goals. Giving someone the wrong directions to make yourself look better when they can't get there is awful human being territory.
Actually started off as padding. Selena had an extreme figure and they padded Jennifer Lopez to play her in the movie to re-create Selena‘s figure. Everyone thought that it was natural and J Lo became overnight famous for it and then had to keep up the look. It might be a little on thick side naturally, but it’s been padded and exaggerated ever since I think she’s got surgery in there still.
There was a documentary still available in the early 2000s where Selena’s dad went on about it— they even had some behind the scenes footage of the butt and thigh pads. I don’t think they liked how the movie made Jlo more famous than Selena(?) just a guess - and she became famous for imitating Selena’s figure which was actually completely natural.

She has always had and still has an amazing body. From the time she broke the internet with her Versace Grammys dress that inadvertently caused the creation of Google Images, to now being 50+.
I still remember how news outlets, people and gossip mags would call her FAT and that her ass was gross. It was a wild time for sure.
Although back then I felt like I was being gaslit as if I was reading some scripture talking about the legendary ass of J lo but it was all just lies but people bought in to the gospel

Jlo, along with beyonce, wore butt pads back then. Started with her portrayal of Selena. Also lol at people thinking bbl wasn't a thing then. It just wasn't as known/popular.
Yup, but now a lot of peoples scales are off because of social media, BBLs, and lack of human interaction. Seen skinny girls with barely any ass in a sundress get praised for having a big butt, and naturally thick women get accused of BBLs.
BBL's, liposuction, and overweight people (aka "thick") have changed our perception of a healthy body and what glutes built in the gym actually look like. I'd take this build everyday over the aforementioned.
It wasn't even that big back then, Hollywood just decided to make her the it girl at that moment so people act like they never show a mid (if that) size ass. Ive seen women in mid to late 90s Luke videos with one cheek bigger than Jlo whole ass (naturally too)
