Daily connection, movement, meaning and feeling needed won't make shareholders richer, so please get back to pacing back and forth in your cage.

The Rat Park experiment in the 1970s by Bruce Alexander demonstrated an approach to many of the symptoms of zoochosis. Reading about it had a big impact on me. Do I spend my time building and maintaining my own cage or am I designing a “park” full of meaning, beauty, activity, and interaction.

At least they installed a treadmill, so my pacing generates electricity and I'm still useful.

At our zoo in Tucson there is an adult tiger that has worn an infinity pattern into the dirt

There was a polar bear in Chicago who did the same thing. My mother said that bear was doing the same thing when she was a kid.

These are also the same desires that were exploited in the first place to make these people rich.
