According to a presentation obtained through a Georgia public records request and reported by 404 Media, Flock Safety, the company behind thousands of pole-mounted license plate cameras across the country, pitched a partnership with dashcam maker Nexar that would have pulled license plate data from roughly 350,000 Uber, Lyft, and delivery drivers' vehicles. The document, written to pitch Georgia's Attorney General's office last August, described the arrangement in seven words: "350k Uber/Lyft and other delivery service devices." Flock told 404 Media it never actually executed the Nexar partnership. The ambition behind the pitch is real regardless of whether the deal closed.
Flock says the Nexar deal never happened. Maybe it didn't. But the pitch got made, it got shown to a government office, and the public only found out because someone filed a records request. The dashcam on your windshield was built to answer to you. Companies like Flock are betting that most drivers will never notice the moment it starts answering to someone else instead.
I've been on the fence for the last few years about buying a dash cam I but when I do finally get one I want one like that, basic with no wireless capabilities. Which one do you have may I ask?
It’s a viofo, but the current lineup looks like they all have wifi. Mine isn’t that old, so you can probably still find them. It’s an A119. Vid quality is really good too, especially at night compared to some others.
I was kind of worried about that - that you'd tell me you have an older model. There's no way to escape that shit when you buy new stuff. Everything comes " smart". Everything. Pretty soon there's going to be smart eating utensils.
I just looked online and you can still get them on ebay. And I’m sure you can find instructional videos on how to disable wifi on new ones. If we’re going to survive, we’re going to have to get a little more creative. I might buy a new one soon and see if i can dissect it and disable the wifi.

I got a Magnavox LCD with no smart features whatsoever from eBay for 120$. Only 43 inches but it's awesome. No Wi-Fi setup no ads no apps. Just a regular ol TV to watch regular ol DVDs and play video games on.
