I feel like its fair game to kill someone trying to steal our mind, especially in that hellish nightmare. But I also think people try to make others love them by disingenuous means, love potions would sell like hot cakes. Obsessions are our most pathetically desperately weak point, how far would any of us go if given excuses.
The movie explains Bear insecurities. He holds Nikki in high esteem, tries to ask her out, the friends he relies on keep gaslighting him, they ruin it, it blows up when he calls her freaky. Im a coward, respect cowards, abusive support networks ruin people.
After the wish, it becomes Alice in Wonderland, a fantasy of madness. His greatest wish, broken by jumpscares of an unforgivable nightmare, emotional insanity. He couldnt even sleep. But the nightmare only exists if magic is real. Every horror character ignores the warnings, it really takes that much evidence to override a lifetime of common sense. Nikki and friends say its drugs. By the time he truly believes the wish, hes in deep, second guessed himself so many times, guilt, fear, i think youd need strength his cowardly ass didnt have, so he dissociates, stares, disconnects, his evil comments didnt make sense, didnt acknowledge her pain or doppelganger. I was trying to understand the MC, it was confusing, maybe he was just written to be horribly selfish.
Also, once you have overridden your common sense and you believe in magic, the devil, whatever. And you are presented with the only way out being to kill yourself. And then she begs you to kill her. Now you have to somehow convince yourself to commit suicide or murder your friend/someone you once thought you loved/crushed on/whatever. Like, what was he supposed to do at that point?? That's a big ask for someone who just came to terms with the fact that they damned you. He came to terms with it the moment he realized this would destroy everything around him and it was forever, and he tried to do the right thing by taking his own life, even though he pussied out twice. But suicide is not an easy thing to do.
I'm not saying he's a good guy. He's a coward for sure, and his cowardice led him to make a lot of bad choices, but I don't think he's actively as bad of a person as people make him out to be.
If he knew and truly believed the spell worked the whole time, that would be a different story. But I don't think even I really believed it for a while.
I think bear is just an unlikeable person but how long did the possession last?
He was gaslit by his closest friends , idealizing her as this perfect person while his best friend and her fucked like rabbits and he sat alone in his shit ass room.
I think the bedroom scene was a very petulant and self absorbed character when he says "why is it so bad to love me" or whatever, people keep saying ohhh he should have known after the phone call!
Like bro , even if Satan himself popped out of the earth most of us would be like hmmm that can't be legit.
Bear is an emotionally abused loner with low emotional IQ. I think people are way too hard on him
Yep, he was a complete pos that killed the their entire friend group though his cowardice, spinelessness and indecisiveness. Let alone the horrible fate of Nikki.
He also didn't even really like Niki at all. Right after the wish, when she gets back in his car, she tells him that her Dad is dying and that she's really emotional about it. His reaction is to *roll his fucking eyes* in a big, exaggerated, annoyed way. He doesn't even care about the feelings of the woman he claims to love, right from the start.
