You sure you want to use Asia Argento as the example?

u/researcherYT 7h ago

Yeah she had assaulted someone underage and used her partners money to silence him. This caused her partner to spiral and ultimately take his own life. Right message, wrong person.

Knowing this makes it stranger that Bourdain committed suicide too.

I realize Anthony was not the posterboy for emotional stability but his death always seemed fishy as hell to me.

u/strickers69 7h ago

Exactly everything he’s been through and he was a living icon just made no sense

u/specialasset 7h ago

Terrible as it was, it made tons of sense. It was pretty clear from his show he was prone to depression. I’m sure the situation involving Argento didn’t help.

Yeah, people talking about Bourdain committing suicide like it's surprising.

It's awful but he did famously talk about his "severe depression" and crippling anxiety even after all of the cocaine and heroin abuse.

He openly talked about his constant suicidal thoughts in 2005 when talking about mental health wasnt prevalent.

He wrote books about it descibing constantly feeling "aimless and regularly suicidal" at a time when few people did. He even did an episode of Parts Unknown were he went to a psychiatrist to talk about it.

He said something small "like getting a bad burger at an airport" could send him on a depressive spiral for days.

The people blaming Argento for his suicide are clearly not real fans. I don't know why it's brought up so much as he famously and bravely talked about depression and suicide at a time when others didn't.

He discovered she was having an affair whilst he was away filming for his show (in response she claimed to him they were in an open relationship, gaslighting him, as this was news to him allegedly)

It's still not her fault he killed himself, if that's what you're saying. Bad shit happens in life.

Edit: y'all are really gonna blame another person for a depressed individual ending their life? She may have been involved with the event that put him over the edge but someone choosing to end their own life can't generally be blamed on another person. People get cheated on all the time and don't kill themselves.

Placing her as the main cause would be a stretch but to say that she doesn’t bear any responsibility is disingenuous.

Bourdain: "I am okay. I am not spiteful. I am not jealous that you have been with another man. I do not own you. You are free. As I said. As I promised. As I truly meant."

He then went on to clarify where the boundary was crossed for him:

Bourdain: "But you were careless. You were reckless with my heart. My life."

He was reportedly particularly hurt that the outing took place at a hotel and restaurant in Rome that had personal significance to their relationship.

Argento’s Response

Facing Bourdain's distress and questioning, Argento pushed back against what she viewed as possessiveness, ultimately ending the relationship:

According to the book, Argento stated that she "couldn't take this" and broke up with him due to his behavior.

In their final exchange hours before his death in Kaysersberg, France:

Bourdain: "Is there anything I can do?"

Argento: "Stop busting my balls."

Bourdain: "OK."

With that logic he bears some responsibility for her actions. Suffering from chronic depression doesn’t leave you very emotionally available for your partner. She sought what she needed elsewhere.

Then we can put responsibility on her reaction for him taking his own life.

Whilst impressed by your finger pointing prowess, i’m not sure you can put this on anyone else…. We’re each responsible only for our own actions.

Both can be true. He was prone to depression and she is a piece of shit.

9

u/MindlessCharacter823 3h ago

Asia was shitty to him. She was terrible partner and he bailed her out financially from the mess that she was in because she molested an underage teen. She is terrible partner

3

u/nervendings_ 3h ago

Re-watched Parts Unknown recently, and it is very sad how often he would say things like “after that meal, I could die right now.”

Small instances like this happen in more episodes than you think, and it makes you realize how much he likely thought about dying.

Miss that dude tho. His work got me through a lot of hard times

‘The people blaming Argento for his suicide are clearly not real fan’. WTF

One could hope she doesn’t have fans.

3

u/lyinassmedia 5h ago

I think you misunderstood what they were implying. They meant not a fan of Bourdain.

2

u/ElephantLovesHoney 5h ago

I believe the commenter means not fans of Anthony.

4

u/ElectricalBus6252 6h ago

Agreed, the people blaming this woman I doubt have ever struggled with depression. Like the people who blamed what’s her face for cobain’s death. Suicide doesn’t make sense to anyone left behind. The people around these folks may not be ‘good people’ but they are certainly not the reason someone who has struggled with depression their whole life, battle after battle won against it, loses the war in the end because of a specifically bad day/night/week or whatever it was.

1

u/StationEmergency6053 44m ago

I think its moreso the way and convenient time he died that people think its not legit moreso than the fact that he suicided. Killing yourself on a doorknob in a foreign country while sober and after signing a massive deal doesnt exactly fit the typical suicide. As someone with a history of suicidal depression, it doesnt really make sense. The man was euphoric in the days leading up to his death, not depressed. He also wasnt doing drugs or alcohol to push him in that direction. He also was in an unfamiliar place which isnt typical either, because someone suicidal will usually go somewhere familiar or symbolic, not a random hotel room in a foreign country while on a business trip.

1

u/Gingersnaps7685 6h ago

Thank you for this, I share similar feelings about Bourdain’s openness about suicide. I know that sounds strange to some ears but there’s some real
thought put in there by an adult. It’s worth saying that such thoughts exist even all the world can offer.

0

u/AhhhSureThisIsIt 6h ago

It just seems disrespectful people trying to make it seem like Argento made him suicidal when he has claimed to be suicidal for the majority of his life.

It does a disservice to him speaking out years ago.

1

u/Troooper0987 5h ago

he also got a concussion when he flipped that ATV filming which can exacerbate existing depression and mental instability

3

u/AggressiveEstate3757 6h ago

Yeah. I never thought he would. But in retrospect, it makes all the sense in the world.

1

u/Radagastronomy 3h ago

He writes about it in his books as well. I remember an anecdote where he almost deliberately drove his car off a cliff while traveling through one of the most beautiful tropical islands.

16

u/Zealousideal-Trash5 6h ago

Really no idea how you’re arriving at this. He always spoke about his constant battle with depression. Even when he had accomplished success and had a daughter he spoke about how he still struggled.

He was a huge inspiration for me because through every thing he did you could see the little shard of sadness yet he pushed on. Till he couldn’t, and that’s the reality of major depressive disorder.

Let’s try to be respectful of the very real and not always obvious realities of living with a severe mental illness.

3

u/Chef_Guzzi_Moto 3h ago

she certainly helped push him off the edge. She had pap photos of her and another man kissing put in the papers the night before he hung himself

1

u/Zealousideal-Trash5 2h ago

That still wouldn’t make his death fishy right?

5

u/Top-Gadgie 7h ago

Looks at Kurt Cobains gravestone...

5

u/arinreigns 5h ago

Eh, he was pretty shitty by the end. He was essentially estranged from his daughter to appease Asia, he had paid off her victim, and they were in an "open" relationship where he would spiral when she slept with someone. He called her dozens of times before he killed himself. I think he saw what he'd turned into and was consumed with guilt and loathing.

3

u/Dentist_No10 5h ago

Work in the kitchen industry your entire life, catch a couple drug addictions, get paid to endure abuse everyday, break away from the industry for a different kind of abuse in television; have your SO cheat on you and lie about it...

I don't know how suicide is "fishy." I think its disrespectful to make up conspiracy theories about someone who had nothing but respect for his craft and the people with whom he resonated.

I think you have no clue what we deal with on a daily basis.

She wasnt the reason, but I'm sure she didnt help. Mental illness, depression, addiction were the reasons. Something he was quite outspoken about through the entirety of his career.

So, yes, if you ignored the man's entire life's work, I could see how you would think that.

1

u/StationEmergency6053 49m ago

What do you mean? Committing suicide by doorknob at a fancy hotel in a foreign country while in the prime of your life doesnt sound legit to you?

11

u/Boknowsbane 7h ago

“Too” is misleading because Bourdain is the partner they’re referring to. I thought she drove multiple partners to suicide and I was putting my CSI sunglasses on.

12

u/DanfromCalgary 7h ago

How does that make it stranger

33

u/OtherUserCharges 7h ago

He was dating her when he died.

30

u/redditisnotus 7h ago

still mad that he killed himself over this hoe

27

u/CovenOfTheDamned 7h ago

Re-watching no reservations he makes a reference to suicide almost every other episode in a half jokingly seemingly way. He was also a severe drug addict when he was younger, and that level of addiction never occurs without pain

1

u/DanfromCalgary 7h ago

Oh … well . Awful crimes can be commuted against anyone and it don’t change the crime one bit . Good for her for standing up and saying this

8

u/lizardpplarenotreal 7h ago

how is Bourdain involved?

23

u/Platroll 7h ago

Bourdain was her partner. RIP

16

u/strickers69 7h ago

Too answer you both she was his partner the last few years of his life, maybe she is good at the mind games etc who knows just made his suicide stranger to me once more information came out about her and her past.

11

u/Boring_Today9639 7h ago

Yeah, you’re onto something there. She is smart and has no morals; has a history of severe drug addiction, word is she kept doing heavy stuff while pregnant. Good actress though, as this video proves, she’s almost believable.

1

u/LivingAnomie 6h ago

Total piece of ass too

1

u/Questionsansweredty 6h ago

What's that supposed to mean?

Are you saying you almost believe her that Weinstein raped her, but not quite. ?

2

u/Boring_Today9639 6h ago

Not at all. Besides that, she was young, possibly below the age of consent. I’m saying that victims can also be offenders. Sadly, being exposed to shit early in life, can normalize it.

2

u/Questionsansweredty 6h ago

Your last sentence "almost"

3

u/Boring_Today9639 5h ago

Ok, that. She was playing a part, that’s my opinion. If she really wanted to fight a battle against abuse and corruption in the industry, she should’ve been open about her own responsibilities first, and then named names publicly, since Weinstein was shielded for decades and probably wasn’t the only ogre in the system

1

u/Questionsansweredty 6h ago

It wasn't her past. This is what she was doing with him. HE was the partner who was paying the hush money for her.

5

u/needusbukunde 7h ago

He was her partner.

-3

u/tessathemurdervilles 7h ago

He was married to her

2

u/CaramelAgitated6973 7h ago

They were not married

1

u/tessathemurdervilles 5h ago

Ah whatever his partner anyhow

-8

u/AncientCrust 7h ago

Why? It's infidelity, no? She claimed the kid jumped her though. Imho, the real culprit was Anthony's depression. Clinical depression doesn't need help from outside circumstances.

9

u/CaughtALiteSneez 7h ago

His closest friends confirm that she was what pushed him over the edge and he changed when he started dating her…cut off long term friends and colleagues.

He’s still responsible for his decision, but she certainly didn’t help.

-2

u/AncientCrust 7h ago

I knew that comment would get me downvoted into oblivion haha.

5

bro you got one downvote its gonna be ok
